SSF4 AE 2012 Guile Video Thread: Return to Respectability

This match is rough >_<. I haven’t been playing much AE, most people down here just play super, even though we have easy access to AE. So I can’t say if it’s gotten any easier to counter poke sims normals. (AE sucks)

My goal in this match is always to get in, and push sim to the corner. I think guile loses the zoning part pretty bad. The only normals i really use in mid screen footsies are c.strong, c.forward, and sweep. Sweep is great if you predict a slide, or far standing lk. c.forward is used mostly as a safer way to stuff slide attempts. I feel that c.strong is guile’s best normal as far as out prioritizing sims limbs, probably due to its active frames.

I do not like trying to counter poke s.fierce. Guiles answer to fierce is focus. If it feels like sim is looking to fierce a boom, focus is a good way to bait the reaction fierce, and get a little damage; usually lvl1 focus followed by back dash. If the sim is playing shitty you might get a lvl2. This also gives sim a reason to not always go for standing fierce, and makes it easier for guile to put booms on the screen, which is his primary method of pushing sim towards the corner.

Try to use combos like c.lk > c.lk > c.lp > c.mp xx boom > sweep against sim once he is cornered. Stagger the c.lk’s to catch stand tech’s. This will open sim up to frame traps and tick throws.

I got bodied hard against Wong’s chun li at Final Round this weekend. Another ATL player recorded it. Not sure if it’ll go on youtube. This man’s footsies are crazy. Any advice on how to beat Wong? I did sweep that guy like 7 times in our MM, so I guess that’s something. I am running it back at evo.

i just watched your match from west coast warzone vs f.champ and it reminded me so much of me lol. i get so frustrated playing this match that i just start playing like a fucking fool the minute i lose the life lead. i’ve seen dieminion play arturo and do foolish stuff too like jump in 4 times in a row, only to eat an anti air every time. it’s weird because i know that guile is free against abel/viper too…but those matches don’t annoy me so much. i can’t stand playing against dhalsim with guile. i always go to bison/vega and i still lose because the sim’s know the matchup better than me. my abel is garbage or i’d use him instead lol.

i just feel like this always happens to me:

turtle - dhalsim closes space and i get hit by cr.fierce or yoga sniper eventually and lose the lead.

get in on dhalsim - he mashes back short, or has enough space to teleport away, or gets a lucky throw and i’m back at square one.

the only time i feel like i even have a small chance is when i’ve got sim in the corner. but it’s so fucking hard to get him there and so mentally demoralising if he gets out.

i think the only answer is to counter pick. the match is that bad. i don’t think there is some ‘alien technology’ that’s going to come along out of nowhere and make this match slightly easier. this matchup is absolutely free in a first to 10 against a good dhalsim. when a.e/the new console version drops, i’m picking up whichever character is dhalsim’s absolute worst match regardless of who it is, then i’m going to learn that match up thoroughly.

Just going to post up this random match we had on our livestream the other night. (Yeah, we provide live commentary on the UYG stream now).

Was kind of one of those hyped up nights where everyone was doing alot of trash talking. But it was all in fun.

I need to get out to more offline tournaments more.

EDIT: I don’t really trash talk. I was just kind of tipsy that night. My apologies.

NSFW Due to explicit language.

Light mode Guile is too sick, just made a quick video of some of the things you can do with him on the 3ds.

Also, was kinda cool to see that ACE is the second ranked Guile in AE, right ahead of Yazu.

Youtube channel with mainly Jap Guile play in AE.

Oh really? What are their BPs and win ratios at out of curiosity? I don’t know about ACE… it seems like results don’t lie and his videos has him winning consistently against top players, but it always seems like his opponents just get stupid, drop combos, run into booms… stuff that really… doesn’t happen against top players.

Also, Yazu is beast. Just had to mention it.

Definitely, Yazu and ACE are both beasts for sure.
And, like you said, ACE beats the top players consistently, I have multiple matches of ACE taking down Tokido on my channel, and I also like how he deals with hard matchups, for instance, whenever he goes up against robin01, a top Abel player.
He makes the matchup seem even. Lol.
As far as the stats go, the rankings were taken down for some reason, but the number 1 Guile was something (^?^), number 2 was ACE, and 3 was hachigashira-san aka Yazu, but they were all only separated by only 1000 BP or less, so it’s definitely really close between them.
Btw, if I can add, I’m not sure if I’m remembering correctly, but I think it was you, I saw some of your matches vs Tokido a while back, in a FT5 money match, or something like that, it was in a hotel room maybe? Lol.
But just wanted to say, you did really well, I was very impressed with your performance vs Tokido.

I watched most of the ACE’s matches ShinAkuma uploaded before and the problem is that his opponents aren’t that good in the majority of the matches. But he does quite well against top players. Just not that many matches with them available probably cos his matches are mostly online and not many top players play online.

That #1 Guile is probably Fujisawa and yes, that was Slinkun in that video vs Tokido.

I think Hishou who plays Guile in the AE vids I posted above, plays Guile quite well. He used to play quite a mean Vanilla Sagat if i remember correctly.

While I do agree that that comes with the territory (online) and not all the players online are top players, but I will say that ACE only likes to upload his ranked matches that are vs other top players, a lot of the ACE matches that you see on my channel, are vs robin01 [Abel] AFG [Sagat] KIRITAMPOPO [Cammy] ikboy [Cammy] NAO JAG NEGI [Fei, Bison] uramakiroll [Ibuki] ProudStrawberry [Gouken] All of those players are top notch players… So I wouldn’t say that the majority of his competition isn’t good, because it’s actually the opposite, but every now and then you’ll see him beast on a lesser player. Lol.
That actually brings up one of my pet peeves, Lol, there are some really good players who upload their matches vs MUCH LESSER players than themselves, because I really want to upload some of these top player’s matches, but I just can’t bring myself to upload a match of a 4800 - 5000 PP Makoto/Viper/Bison/etc player destroying a 1200 PP player, it’s just not right. LOL.

On a side note, my friend from Japan who gives me info on the players, translations, etc, told me that a lot of players in Japan seem to think that kyotojin has the best Guile, but he doesn’t have an Arcade name card. :frowning:

Yah it’s not like ace doesn’t play good people, but when he plays them they just do… bad… I can’t really figure. I saw a match against Mago’s sagat and mago was playing like a scrub sagat against him… missing blatant anti-airs, dropped combos, etc. I’ve played Magos sagat on a couple occaisions and he is absolutely perfect in every element of his gameplay, so it was weird watching that video.

I think a lot of losses just don’t get posted. When I was taking more footage during Vanilla, there would be some matches that I never posted of myself because I just played like ass. I mean hell, theres a vid on my youtube page of me beating air’s ryu in Vanilla, but the real story is that I randomly had recorded the only match where I won! I lost like 15 games to him before I won once.

Still curious about the numbers. I left Japan as a AAA rank 30k+ bp Guile, but my card was unregistered. I was really hoping I could have got to Master rank, but between earthquakes and trnasferring, no dice.

Oh ya, officially gone from Japan forever, btw.

I think you’ll do quite well back in the States(if you’re going back) with your xp you got from Japan.

Actually I really had no idea that those were top players except robin01 and AFG cos I haven really been watching vids consistently. I think it was the first time I seen their vids and it was against and they seem not to know the Guile matchup well enough. So top players to me in my mind are still guys like tokido, Mago, RF, Bonchan, TKD and kindevu and most of their vids are on a Jap website.

Hope to see Yazu’s Guile in AE vids though, but it seems rather hard to find.

Yeah, those are the definitely top players, the ones you mentioned, but I post top players from all over Asia on my channel, that’s why you won’t ever see any of them on the Japanese Websites like you mentioned.
For instance, lsy9983 is Taiwan’s top Bison player, and just as good as ANY Bison player in Japan in my opinion, if not better. GameOutttt is Hong Kong’s top or second best Guile after “God of Guile”, KIRITAMPOPO is Taiwan’s best Cammy, frostmaelstrom is most likely Taiwan’s best Fei Long, the list goes on and on.
That’s why I called those players I mentioned top notch players, I know you won’t see a few of them on the Japanese websites, but they are definitely among some of the best players in Asia.
