SSF4 AE 2012 Guile Video Thread: Return to Respectability

He plays in the second part of the SG stream (first part is mostly casuals), starting around 9:30 and 2 sets of best of 5 exhibition matches at the end.

His matches were real good! Definately proof that flashkick FADC U2 is important in super. Sad about the best to 5 though. I think he would have won if SG’s best wasn’t an Akuma player. Still put up a great fight and held his own.

Fantastic matches! I wish I had that kind of patience. I was swearing at youtube when I saw all that meter that luffy was gaining… I would have jumped into so many c.hp’s, lol.

Anyone has good AE vids of Guile vs Yun and Yang?

Amazing play yet again. I hope you don’t mind some constructive critisism, since I do have a lot of respect for your ability to read people while zoning and great AA abilities, but I was curious about your meter usage. It seems like in most matchups you never make it to two bars because you keep chucking dem EX booms. I find that having a constant 1-3 bars makes EX booms a little less predictable. The end of a round is a great time to build it too, since I noticed that a lot of the time, you will burn that meter know matter what, even if you have a huge life lead and there’s 20 seconds on the clock.

For example if I had a big life lead on rose or Dhalsim and they had full super meter, I would be more than content to keep on chucking safe lp booms and baiting jumps. There’s no real need to use that meter for EX booms in most cases IMO when in this scenario.

I’m also sad to see missed damage opportunities… which I’m biased since I feel like I’m a polar opposite Guile player… I try to go for hit confirms and frame traps often, and try to maximize damage whenever possible. (Which is why I’m probably not as strong a player, heh). But I caught a couple clean jump in where you were in c.mp range after your j.hk, but then opted for a sweep instead of c.mpxx flashkick. I’ve personally got in the habit of trying to, whenever possible comboing a df.hk after my j.hk’s. It has a touch more range that c.mp, albeit you have to hit a little deeper with your jump, but it allows for some better damage opportunities.

For example, at the start of a round vs. ryu, if you ever feel like scrubbing out, jump forward at the start of the round with j.hk. C.mp will whiff at this range, but df.hk will always hit clean; allowing for more damage and just a wee bit better positioning than after landing a sweep.

I’d also obviously LOVE to see more rep happening for mah UDK crumple combos too, but again I’m biased and they are hard as fuck to learn =p. But still… nothing feels better than actually landing a crumple > UDK > s.hp xx lp boom > backfist on sim… NOTHING!

I would like to reiterate, mad respect man, keep repping Guile!

I also have a pretty good writeup to make for makoto, if anyone’s interested. Since she’s better in AE I’ve been seeing more pop up lately.

I cant wait to see these at home, too much MCV3 crap going on lately

Good stuff, I just saw those and was about to post them.

You guys think we need a separate thread for AE or just keep it in here?

Its even frustrating watching Guile vs Sim.

Hm. I wonder what niconico mark’s reasoning for using U1 in the Dhalsim match is. I stick with U2 solely because it neutralizes sim’s U1, and still leaves one hit of the hurricane left, which stuffs any attempts to punish this tactic. How is it even possible to land U1 against a sim with half a brain outside of focus crumple?

Rough match against PE too. His rufus is a lot more tame since AE since he got some nerfs on his random BS damage. However, his Yang is very strong.

He likes to FA dash U1 on opponent’s wakeup. Maybe he could be thinking of doing it on reaction to catch Sim teleporting backwards on wakeup.

I think at high level play, Yang is better than Yun in the long run.

just wonderin, is it only outside japan where people call the guile player niconico mark?

not a big deal or anythin. just curious cause i think ive only heard him being referred (here) to as kaomoji = (japan’s) smiley/emoticon. not like its from niconico or anything…

oh and slinkun, you free next saturday? lets go arcade hopping lol im meetin a fellow abel player who came from canada too

edit: yeah, fujisawa too

Niconico mark is also known as Fujisawa.

I’m seeing Iron Maiden on saturday dude. Otherwise I’d be down, but I must pay tribute to the gods of metal.

Also, Guile vs. Filipino Champ is a 2-8 matchup.

yeah, pretty big gap between champ and the dhalsims featured in those japanese vids.

First time I have seen Mago playing as Guile. Thanks for the upload.

i agree

i was watching that vid saying, “fchamp would shut X down with X.” I played 2 games vs fchamp in super and i felt really lucky to win a round… :frowning: you play him more than i do so im sure you know that better than anyone

i feel your pain. I am making it my mission to master the dhalsim matchup before evo. i feel like if a guile player can play this match right and win against the best sim players, there is no reason why you cant be successful.

just out of curiosity warahk, have you had any luck countering limbs with normals like dieminion said? IIRC he said it was easier to counter limbs in AE, just curious as to whether or not that holds water.

the main reason why I lose this matchup now is because i am not consistent enough with timing cr. mp, cr. fierce, st. mp, df rh, counters to limbs fullscreen. I played evil rahsaan 20 games in june and I used to think it was cool to sit back and react in this match, only pressing a button if you absolutely must… and i got timed out 38 rounds… i said fuck it after that, I only play fullscreen footsies now. as a result i lose by “V” and not " T"
