Definitely agree here. I stopped by an arcade last night and fought a pretty good Zangief that was wiping the floor with a 7 win streak. I lost badly in the first round then next round I went all out boom-spam backfist zoning and perfected him, didn’t even switch sides since the start of the match. Next round i nearly pulled off the same until I did I accidentally did a crouching medium punch to anti-air his jump-in. I got knocked down as a result and I ended up losing the round from near perfect.
/sigh… it feels like Guile’s tools and playstyle potentially allow him to be an impenetrable wall but due to human error, one mistake is like losing the keystone and suddenly the whole thing is ready to collapse. Must be why it’s so hard to balance him…
here’s a set of JR Rodriguez vs. myself from back in November. Looking at this i know i should use Crouchin Fierce more. so many chances to stuff that vortex sigh. I get my arse kicked the first vid but start to come back. Also his demon set ups are tricky and i forget about that since i hadn’t played him in a while and get caught in a bunch of 'em. As always suggestions are appreciated as my game is still pretty similar to this. thanks in advance.
I was looking for some AE guile footage and found some buried in this video thread. I was wondering if a new video thread dedicated to AE footages seems like a good idea?
^ don’t panic when you are at low hp and know what bison can do at each distance (1/2; 3/4 screen etc). For example, Scissor kick (and sometimes PC) is likely to be used when you’re a few character spaces away, mainly because it has good invul and decent damage, so just be constantly aware of that threat when you’re up close.
Your safest spot facing bison however is 3/4 screen. The only move he can touch you with is headstomp/follow up, everything else is negated because of the distance. Slide, SK, PC all completely limited at that range, so his only viable special move is HS—> air throw. Lure him with Sbs (whiffed light punches work too), bring lots of patience (as always when playing as Guile), and then air throw him anytime he tries HS.
If you do end up close to bison make sure it’s you attacking him (if it’s the other way round, you’re going to need that patience [and a few bars of meter] to GTFO).
Bison is likely in constant state of charge for SK or PC if you’ve got him cornered, so stop your attack pressure every now and again in favour of blocking. Play the match up and you’ll see how free Bison is.
Ryan Hart and I also played a first to 5 for £20, which he won in the end, came down to the last hit. I’ll post it when I can find it. Other than that, enjoy.
Wow! Just when I thought I’ve seen everything with Guile! Check out that reversal U1! Practical uses abound for characters who whore crossups! Brilliant!

lol nice Slinkun. I actually play against him occasionally in the arcade… (he’s from HK too) but yea we’re on totally different levels. it’s kinda depressing really. Never really knew he had so many matches up on YouTube though… worth watching.
His execution seems to be at the highest level and he makes some great reads via reaction, like when he backdashes out of a focus that; due to some opponent action, becomes unsafe. I think his zoning is good, and the only big problem I see is that he takes too many risks when he has the lead. Which, while I love watching, and hell, love doing as well, is just not the best idea with Guile. Not too impressed with his comp either.
