hey lianghubbb whats up, I’ve seen your videos on the front page. I would like to show you some of mine on the replay channel, maybe you will like some of the shit I have pulled out, there is a really nice fk/super>ultra 2 that I did to a cody on his blocking string ending in tornado, the super gets activated in the middle of the tornado and it looks flashy. Let me know bro
I will add you right now.
Edit:Your FL is full.
yes man, I had you under my vanilla account, ill delete a contact to add you in about 8 hours, right now I am at work.

Yesterday i went over to a buddies house and we played some super. Turns out he’s also class mates with Tokido, so we ran a few sets on super before going to the arcades. Sorry, no AE footage.

Nice guy, he does agree that the match has gotten a little easier in AE since Guile lost some damage.
wow, dude doesnt let guile stand up once he starts a combo, always ends in roundhouse to vortex guile.
Guile looks pretty free when he’s on his back with Akuma on top all the time…
Slinkun, were you able to take a round/game from Tokido?

I got rounds on him, but never an entire match. I would need a lot more experience with not doing really stupid stuff, like focusing up close air fireballs. It’s definately a hard match, and I never knew about akuma’s fakie crossup j.hk in the corner. If you caught it, he suggests that if akuma goes for a normal jump attack when your knocked down in the corner, that focus dashing out is a better option than guessing. The crazy thing is that I did as good as I did on my wakeup and the guy still destroys me… he’s just that good at getting in.
On the other hand, can’t he just OS sweep you of your FA if his jump in is deep enough? =S
Akuma doesn’t have to OS sweep if Guile FA backdashes. He can just safe jump and block, and if he sees Guile FA backdash, walk forward a little bit and sweep.
They will only use OS backdash with sweep if they think Guile is going to backdash the meaty jump-in. Some players can react to this with the same way above, walk forward a bit and sweep. But they have to be looking out for the backdash in the first place.
He also doesn’t need to OS SRK to counter FKs, unless he has a lot of meter to spend or he uses demon flip into palm to OS SRK to catch you pressing crouch tech.
Most good Akumas I played with play like this so it’s all imo.
What’s your method to play against such Akumas then? Other than don’t get knocked down -_-"
Counter pick? lol
akuma is super scrubby. the entire character can be learned in training mode.
Never attempt to play footsies with a good Akuma and never attempt to focus in footsie range as he can just f.hk on reaction. His walk speed is faster and his most of his normals will counter almost all of Guile’s normals. I think Guile will stand a better chance at the full screen FB war using EX boom to try and counterhit him out of his red FB startup. At least Guile can react to whatever Akuma does at this distance. Good akumas always try to frametrap Guile when near and sometimes I find I can throw them out of their c.mp if they try to frametrap slower. If the blockstun during the frametrap is less than 3 frames, meaning they do it fast, then you will get hit if you press throw. Sometimes I just do a FK if they get too frametrap happy. If you really have to block their c.mp, I find jump forward lk sometimes work well too.
In SSF4, Akuma can be easily punished with U2 if he tries to use EX air FB to force Guile to block.
If Akuma sweeps you down and goes for demon flip into his kick at the top of his jump, sometimes, depending on the Akuma’s timing and skill, you can dash forward and Guile will go under and you can punish the divekick recovery with heavy attacks or c.lk. This will lose to palm attack though.
I think FA dashing out of crossups can usually be beaten by any character if they delay their attack by about a few frames.
I find against Jap akumas like tokido and momochi, backdashing out of their normal jump-ins will only get punished by them cos almost every of their jump-ins has an OS hidden behind them and usually for the purpose of catching backdashes if you look closely at their videos. I think Tokido is using s.lk OS with maybe f.hk in Slinkun’s matches.
Most of the time when I play against good akumas, getting sweeped/c.mp > s.hk will most likely lose you the round or cost you half of your hp.
I think another point about demon flip is that it is best countered with airthrow if you have enough time. If unsure, blocking is the best option as Guile. Imo, a good Guile is almost a free frag for a good Akuma.
ggs, dieminion adapted really good. I like how he was jumping enemy ex-booms to avoid any chip damage and his reaction time with SH was better.

A friend of mine just held a first to 5 exhibition at his house where a bunch of us just played first to 5’s and he recorded them so we can work on getting better, learning the match ups, and cleaning up our game.
It’s a bit long, but I really think this is a good set for us. We both play fairly solid, besides a couple of dumb, impatient moves, and, in my opinion, this first to five set really shows why you don’t see very many Guile’s place high in tournaments despite the fact that he’s considered one of the best characters in SSF4. When Guile is played perfectly, it is extremely difficult for many characters to get in (I almost perfected my opponent a couple times and perfected him one round). However, if you guess wrong once or twice and / or get knocked down, you’re either stunned or in the corner, which usually means you’re probably going to die that round unless you clutch it out.
Also, I just recently started implementing Guile’s upside down kick into my game. That move, when used sparingly, is freaking awesome.
EDIT: Putting this clip in context, the other player and I have a little rivalry in our scene due to a couple of reasons:
- We’re both named Peter.
- I was winning the majority of the tournaments here on Guam during 2010 before he really leveled up and started taking me out during the latter half of the year.
- We both have different styles: mine relies mostly on defense and zoning, his on mix ups.
