Yes. It helps to squint.
Good to see I’m not the only one who gets thrown off by random ass Ryu players.
yea, I think you had a 6 win streak, mine was one less than yours. anyways, I dont care either, all that matters is the UDK combo. Shades ON
lol ggs right now. nobody was having the 2 guiles in the same lobby. notice my lamer play this time? i wasnt jumping in to your flashkicks as much which equaled more wins.
you still ate a bunch of them every time you jumped in. I was not into mirror today thats why I asked for friend invites, I got owned by that vega in the third round, LOL stun and bye.
Yeah that’s a shitty habit. I’m hungover not really into it either man but still ggs as always

My bracket of the tourney with the exception of two matches. Great tourney overall, i’m a little disappointed with my matches against Arturo. I know the Rose/Guile match, I just played autopilot and didn’t think much. Looking forward to comments and criticism.
wow. What can guile do if Rose rejects like that? I was thinking about sonic boom, she rejects and guile can focus absorbe dash in from time to time, not the greatest idea but, that is what comes to mind
i find the rose match up pretty frustrating. i like to do absolutely nothing sometimes, and match soul sparks on reaction.
if i have a lead i find this pretty effective. if a rose isn’t willing to budge the fireball war gets pretty nasty. jab boom recovery doesnt have shit on reflect recovery
i like c.mk and s.lk for anti slide, but yeah, rose can beat c.mk with her s.mk, as arturo did.
sanford’s sagat is soooo sick
also east coast needs more character lock tournaments
Those non-jab booms were not being reflected on reaction. They can’t be. He was anticipating and you could see it by the times no boom came and he reflected anyway. So Die I would have liked to have seen more feints from you to throw off his timing. Also I kept waiting for a Bazooka knee>SH that never came! But they were great matches man. It’s easy to armchair QB.
You have quite good mind games and good anticipation of what your opponents gonna do, or when they are gonna go for 50/50. I think among the US Guiles’ vids that I’ve seen, you have a really good chance of being able to compete with the Jap Guiles if you work more on strengthening your current defense wall and also work more on hit rate of your pokes. The good Jap Guiles’ pokes such as s.hp and s.hk are usually being blocked or they score a hit and they seldom whiff normals, especially heavy normals. If you really watch the matches, almost all of their pokes are well-thought out and are done just at the right distance and timing. I don’t know if you get what I’m saying here.
I myself am guilty of whiffing heavy normals like using s.hk to just whiff in front of the opponent’s face by a bit to bait out opponent’s attacks/pokes, but I think at really high level play in Japan, these will be punished whenever possible.
I have only watched till Henry’s match and I will continue watching when I’m free. My opinion of Henry’s match with you is that you did a very good job of AAing him in c.hp range and also you tried to use s.hp to AA him at first but stopped using it when it got beaten. IMO, s.hp will trade sometimes or cleanly beat his jump-in but only at the correct distance and timing of his pokes and which button he pressed. IMO, it’s always better that I trade instead of blocking the jump-in as he’ll get hit back and you can reset the zoning which is important in the Honda match.
I think you should try to jump up and AA him sometimes so as to mix up the AA which is to Guile’s advantage. You can see in the matches that he always did a late jump-in which will result in s.hp getting beaten/trade. I think apart from jumping light normals, Honda’s only reliable counter to airthrow is his j.mp when done a bit early. But then, you can s.hp his j.mp/hk’s recovery if you conditioned him to hit mp early or you can use df.hk. Honda can’t do anything if Guile follows his SB if you know how to c.mp his nj.hp.
And I think you blocked too many heavy buttsplashes. Heavy buttsplashes are very easily punished with c.hp and you can reset zoning thereafter. A blocked buttsplash is always in Honda’s favor so I only try to block it when they do the lower versions which you can’t really react to or AA. I hate Hondas who spam the lk version on wakeup cos they can EX headbutt if they see you backdash after the buttsplash. Also I think backthrowing is a good punish when you don’t have charge against characters like Zangief and Honda instead of sweep as it creates the distance Guile needs. IMO, the match would have been different and you’ll have done a lot better if you had AA his heavy buttsplash whenever possible.
I’m not very good at putting my thoughts into words and I hope you get what I mean.
I saw a friend of mine who mains Elf in the Henry vid. He’s the asian guy on the left side of the screen who just went over to US. Do you know him? I would like to know how you fare against him if you’ve played him before.
I think hard headbutt is gaurenteed sonic hurricane
Thanks guys for the comments and criticisms, greatly appreciated! I know I have a lot to learn and I really should find time to play more. I only play in tournament these days.
Yes, the Rose match can be annoying. You can’t out-fireball her for obvious reasons and you have to play a solid offensive game when you are close range. I went into the match thinking Arturo was going to play exactly like Luffy. For me it’s now about learning the habits and flaws of Arturo. He has a big weakness although Guile is not proficient (Not saying that he can’t get aggressive and pressurize his opponent but he definitely does not rush down) in massive rush down style. I’d say the match is actually even or slightly in Guile’s favor. I’ll play the match right next time!
Rexell, Kenneth (Spore) is a cool guy. I played him in a local weekly tourney that I won the next day in semi-finals (not recorded though I wish they were). He knows his stuff with Fuerte and he has a lot of tricks and setups. Fortunately I know the match against El Fuerte from playing dawgtanian so much earlier this year. It was a pretty convincing 2 games and I think the pressure might have gotten to him when he heard that we had to play. Dawgtanian is coming to stay in New York for a month so I hope that they learn a lot from each other. Spore, right now is the best fuerte in the east coast in my opinion.
Afii, thanks for that one line of advice haha!
edit: easy to armchair QB? sorry i’m kinda ditsy.
dieminion you nasty
the same arturo who says guile’s op…yet he uses rose and sim. oh the irony.
I’m saying it’s easy for me to watch and analyze, but it’s a whole different thing when you’re there in the moment, so I just wanted not to downplay your skill in any way.
@dieminion
I used to play Spore in Vanilla when he was still in Singapore and I’ll eat his ultra when I get knockdowned and he does his safe tortilla. Backdash, front dash, jumping gets Guile nailed. Is there any way to escape from Elf’s safe tortilla > ultra 1 when you get knockdowned and he has ultra? Am I missing something?
Elf is my worst matchup and I take a lot of risks and the way I play it is to be as unpredictable as possible by doing funny stuff and giving up Guile’s zoning game.
Those were good matches with Sanford’s Sagat. As for Rose, I think maybe you can bait out her reflect by doing a short forward and back motion, then punishing with backfist. I think that worked a few times from what I saw. Arturo didn’t fall for crouching feints. I also think you missed out punishing her soul spiral a few times which can be punished on block with c.mp, FK or s.hp. I’m not really sure familiar with the new characters’ as I’ve still been playing Vanilla. Rose also seems quite vulnerable to frame traps as she has no really good reversal specials.
@Dieminion: lol, sorry but abit lazy with these forums!
Erm, I think you should save super because rose’s best way to get in is with slide but she can’t from a certian range when you have super. Also, arturo was pretty close to you alot of the match especially when he had meter and he reflected loads of sbs, Its nealy impossible to reflect hard sb on ‘reaction’ from close range but the risk is getting jumped in on but thats where you’re in control…condition him to jump.
Here’s a recent weekly tournament in London.

F-word(Ibuki) vs Afii)Guile) Grand final
Feel free to criticise and stuff
@dieminion - could you go over the elf match up here, or in the match up thread. i cannot win against capable feurtes. i’ve watched your videos against dawgtanian, but i still dont understand the match up. i really feel this match is guile’s worst match up, and i’m still hoping it’s just because i dont know what to do.
Wow, didn’t know high level Rose play would null so much of Guile’s playstyle.
I’m reminded of playing against Vanilla Sagat when I watched those Vs. Arturo vids. Booms are much slower. You should use them to match her projectiles only, but when the opportunity arises, you poke her with a normal. I almost wanna say that full screen Jab Booms shouldn’t be used, cuz it’s just going against you. This is a half screen match I would say, reflecting booms are more difficult, and your cr. forward is lengthy enough to out footsie her, along with cr. strong for counter poking, and of course the added st. fierce, given the opportunity.
