SSF4 AE 2012 Gen Match-ups & Strategies (New)

Ive been playing against twins ALOT recently, and WINNING nearly always.

But there was one new tidbit I learned today in the matchup, Yang has an amazing jab, 4 frame startup, +4 frames on block +8 on hit, the yang I play against likes to use it as pressure and as a hit confirm into his BNB cr.lk into swipes, but knowing Gen’s frame data, Gens standing jab actually comes out in 3 frames, so if Yang’s jab is blocked, and he takes a step forward, he’s basically near +0 frames, my particular yang likes to keep the jab pressure on for 3 or for standing jabs, with a step between each set. If you encounter this, you can interrupt his jabs with a counterhit standing jab, because if he takes a step forward to jab again, your jab will come out faster in 3 frames to his 4. I did this, and hit confirmed into TC2 which lead to damage from either hands or gekiro, or in my case, hands>Super>crane st.hk> j.mk crossup> cr.lk > U1

lol

I seem to have no problem vs twins, they cant get inside without really really unsafe moves. Only dive kicks on wakeup that are REALLY meaty work vs Gen, and a blocked ex-lunge punch gets Yun inside, but thats still a 50/50 that you can OS out of thanks to Daigo that we found on the video thread

You should also make a note that Yang’s s.lk is 3 frames so will trade in this situation, he can OS buffer slashes and more. He can also do s.lk xx slash OS ex dp should you backdash. If the s.lk whiffs he gets ex dp, if it hits/blocked he gets slash. He could also do s.lp and do a frame 1 s.mp as a 1 frame frame trap, if you are pressing lp expecting him to just do s.lp then if he times it correctly you will eat bare damage.

Obviously if they are walking forward a LOT then you can hit whatever you want.

Just don’t think you get a free jab if he does on.

Now I havent had him st.lk me at all with pressure just yet, again, he’s not using links so much as he is taking a step, st.jab 3 times and taking another step to do it again, until he gets a hit confirm and then cr.lk (or mk not sure) into swipes.

If he was infact, linking his attacks he would push me out of range to be hit again. This is my fellow players strategy, to sometimes bet on us pressing tech throw while being jabbed.

So long as you know that other Yang players have normals as fast as yours and makes blocked roll horribly bad its golden.

haha, indeed I know. Yang’s standing jab is +4 on block and it starts out in 4 frames, so its actually pretty damn good pressure if your willing to bet that one step forward isnt 7 frames long, which he does, and I stopped him.

I just assume he got that tactic from watching a japanese yang somewhere, so if you see it, my advice on it is here :stuck_out_tongue:

what do you use to counter Yang’s close range dive kicks? If I’m already in Crane, I do c.mk so that he flies over me but in Mantis… :frowning: just block.

Yeah, just do mantis cr mk > hands. I still have trouble with Guy though, will have to break down that matchup more…

had my crane crouch roundhouse stuffed clean by sakura jump roundhouse

im done trying to fight her on the ground in a straight up manner.

going to try a more shennanigan based approach. going to treat her like i treat fuerte

I’d just mantis nj.MP or crane nj.HP when I see her jump. Right now in AE I’m turtling as much as possible against a good Sakura.

But if you want to solve it on the ground… I noticed mantis c.MK xx hands and c.HP are possible solutions on the ground. She can time the roundhouse late, and that one’s susceptible to the old crane c.HK.

yeah, maybe i’ll give that a shot. i know i have to change something tho. im getting beaten pretty consistently by sakuras at the moment

If your in crane, probably cr.hk, or perhaps st.hk depending on the angle of the dive… that move is odd for Anti air and probably unsafe, but worth looking at.

Imo you should just never be in crane vs yang except for crossups and additions to combos

i use standing fierce for every twin dive kick

thanks. I tend to use a lot Crane because I’m practicing with the roll… but I’ll keep that in mind.

Anti-Yun technology…(M)S.Mp

Not as effective against Yang because he can legitimately play footsies, but (M)S.Mp shuts Yun down hard.

Gonna post a video soon, watchin some new and rewatching some old replays

Mantis s.HP vs non-knock down dive kick pressure. EX Gekiro and Crane c.LK+c.LP+c.HK OS vs knock down dive kick pressure.

What do you guys do after a blocking an EX green hand? I do TC x Gekiro but I’m wondering if there’s any better options.

Didn’t know you could punish it on block until a day ago after I lost to a Gief a million times because I’d backdash after it and didn’t know you could do shit afterwards with getting grabbed. Felt like an idiot.

I prefer (m)5mp > TC2 xx wtf. Offline anyway. Online just throw that shit.

Updated Zangief.

I am still amazed at the lack of knowledge other people have about Gen, it’s insane. Yesterday some I had almost zero health left and a Bison hadl ike 1/4 of his health, he kept on doing devil reverse while I had U1…I just stood there in disbelief for a while and then finished the job. The same goes for akuma and ibuki with their air projectiles. I mean it comes in handy, but apparently people still don’t take Gen seriously, which makes me kind of sad really.
