SSF4 AE 2012 Gen Match-ups & Strategies (New)

You may have gotten it wrong, because that’s my point as well, Infil got to Xian. There was no reason for him to believe that ultra 1 wouldn’t work, when, as you said, that super landed in a much more difficult situation.
I think Xian didn’t tried to punish those fireballs because it was Infiltration’s fireball. Those mind games Xian makes where he keeps doing unsafe stuff because people 1: don’t know Gen 2: they wouldn’t think the best Gen player is doing unsafe stuff on purpose, worked against him this time. Xian’s reaction is indeed much better than that, and he does gamble at times, he was just too sure it wouldn’t work.

He probably did his homework by now.

Yes I have been playing with Gen since vanilla too and I aways though he was decent as well, except for his super incarnation… he was pretty bad at that time imo.

Is it even possible to aa dudley without meter? Jesus christ.

crHK crane anti airs dudley nicely.

Yeah, i tried that a lot, since his god elbow is in my mental list of moves that you aa by lowering your hitbox. Neither that nor cr.mk got me much success though =(

I swear i’m struggling a lot with antiairing. s.mp and s.hp mostly trade or get flat out beaten by some characters with good jump ins. cr.hp works only from afar. Since this is the first character i mess with without a a dp (ohhh autocorrect) or braindead antiair normal, i really need to work on the ranges i need to be at, or get confortable doing focus backdashes…

Lost over 2k PP trying to antiair people haha.

For Gen crane crHk takes care of 95% of all AA neeeds, it has 5 active frames and a super hitbox, you just need to throw it out a bit earlier than you do now, at worst it trades with dudley elbow. i find that what ever trades with crHK crane loses to crHK mantis because to beat out crane anti air you have to push dem buttons early and once you do that the active frames wear off and sweep connects. here are list of Gen anti airs

Mantis
Close Range: sMP good but trades alot, sHP does little damage, sLP for close dive kickers
Mid Range: hard gekiro is slow but leads to untechable knockdown, decent hitbox. Light gekiro, faster startup but horizontal hitbox, ex gekiro best but cost meter, crHP decent anti air with good damage, light zanei 6 frame start up 11 frame invincible.
Far: Zetsuei. slow and difficult to time. crHK good but loses to low placed hitbox like gief jump HP and sakura jump HP

Crane
Close Range: crHK best meterless anti air, light jyakoha very good but must be used when opponent is close to hitting you, when performed high will trade and not in your favor, ryukoha (U1 crane) slow startup but good invincibility, use only in close range
Mid Range: crHK still rocks, stHK best trolling anti air trades alot, crMK low profile for horizontal jump in attacks, loses to low position hitbox jump in. medium/hard super

Dammit, i’m still mixing up the stance names haha. I meant i kept doing mantis cr.hk.

Guess i need to be more fluid stance changing. The thing is dudley players (and this one in particular) thinks focus attacks are a free way in, so i didn’t feel confortable not having access to cr.mp xx hands.

then get access to them

Vega match-up: Obviously, Vegas has the range to literally be poking me to death-- what’s worse is that he can sit back and buffer FBD in order to maximize his punish while I am stuck getting one or two pokes in.
Is it just me, or does Vega’s jump-in fierce punch trade in his favor against Crane cr.hk?

Can anyone give me any tips on how to combat spacing options, and Vega’s df.hk?

Vega can only do one at a time, he can focus on poking you or preventing you from getting in with a jump attack, if he is poking then walk up and jump in, Vega anti air are limited. if he is expecting a jump in then you can dash in or walk in and poke.

Vega df.HK if not properly spaced is punishable by jab to TC2 combo. Vega isn’t such a big headache for Gen and also try to build super or ultra early is you can punish any stray wall drives

I don’t like when Vegas just block when you’re trying to get in-- when cross-ups aren’t working, and you have to resort to using grabs in order to punish him. Other than frame traps, I don’t see much hope. Can anyone point me to a video for reference? Maybe Xian played a Vega player recently?

The last thing a vega wants to do against Gen is to sit there and block, you have to establish your aura of dominance and then crack them open.
here are the videos you requested

Those are really good videos, thanks a lot for the help. King Vega is the type of Vega I have problems with-- good spacing, good use of his df.hk. Xian seems to jump in a lot on Vega, seems like both of them can jump in on each other, except that Gen can counter with Crane cr.hk (which is good!).

Hmm… I wonder if Vega can punish Gen’s roll at -3? Seems like it: cr.lp xx FBD, so it wouldn’t be a way to try to chip him. Alright, thanks a lot, brother man.

Vega has no 3 frame normals. he cannot punish a roll.

I checked the frame data thinking he did have a 3 frame normal, he certainly cannot punish roll on block.

Following The Idea of AquaSilk check this Out

The videos are set to private, can’t watch them.

ok i fix that , you can watch them now

Just started playing again and got bodied by a Guy player, fuck Guy.

His fucking j.mp elbow bullshit absolutely destroys me.

Gen’s version of the Snackish Special? haha What are the OS’s here?

hey guys quick question im learning gen but from my training mode experience i cant get oga to cross up on ryu when he is crouching. Is this possible on ryu? On dudley i can get crossup oga to hit cross up whether he is standing or not.
