Hey Vasili - looks like our translations are (obviously) pretty similar, although I think yours are better. Maybe one day you (or whoever else) could put an faq together for all the text in ST. For now though, I’m looking forward to seeing the other win quotes in the game. Bring 'em on man!
Thanks Ansatsuken-TKD. I hope to one day, not just for SX, but for all other SF titles as well, the whole mess. All I can say is keep checking out Warriors Fate for them and other translated stuff.
Please post the untranslated Japanese win quotes, if only for us to have them archived somewhere besides a text file on your hard drive. 
If someone translates them soon enough, some of them might make it into SFHD.

It may sound crazy, but I vaguely remember Chun-Li saying something about being worshipped in one of her win quotes for the SNES version of SF2: WW.
Just played it. She has two not mentioned above:
“You should all kneel down before me!”
and a special one for when she fights herself - “What a wimpy woman! I wonder if there is a much stronger opponent?”
Kinda wondered why the second one didn’t resurface for any of the later games, like when she could fight Cammy or fight herself without putting in a code first. Don’t know if having quotes geared toward the opponent you’re fighting is within the scope of the project though.

Like this one especially, if the original Japanese is anything like I’m imagining (approximately “???” or “Shousha wa tada hitori da,” incidentally… but I just plugged “winner” into a dictionary and have no idea if that’s a word that’s actually in common usage :P) I think it would be much closer to say “There is only one true victor” or “there can be only one true victor,” something along those lines.
You’d be better off using real Mike Tyson quotes.
“All praise is to Allah, I’ll fight any man, any animal, if Jesus were here I’d fight him too.”
“My power is discombobulatingly devastating; I could feel his muscle tissues collapse under my force. It’s ludicrous these mortals even attempt to enter my realm.”

The original for that quote is:
“Shin no shousha wa hitori de yoi. Jakusha shi subeshi!”
No tada, so no “only”, if you see what I mean. Sorry if they’re a little too word-for-word 722, but my goal in translating, as I’ve seen with Saiki’s work, is to retain original thought & intent as much as possible. Even if that means sacrificing flawless readability from time to time. I feel that the same mindset should go into translating English endings into Japanese for instance, something that Gamest did for WW back when it was all the rage, and gave its readers a laugh.:bgrin:

Oh, no, I understand completely but there are so many judgment calls to be made in retaining the original intent – because even in the original language, it’s important that the sentence read naturally. I’m not of the opinion that saying “There is one true victor” (keeping in mind that “hitori” in this case seems to be a counter modifying “shousha,” and not necessarily “one person” – maybe the difference between translating “neko ga sanbiki iru” as “there are three cats” and translating it as “the cats are three animals”) like that in English necessarily segues into the next sentence (that is to say, the implication that he was the winner and thus you were the loser is not as logical given the wording) the same way that it does in Japanese, which is why I’d make a case for the “only” even in the absence of a word-for-word equivalent in the original. Also, what did you do with the “de yoi” at the end of the first sentence?
Keep in mind I’m not claiming my Japanese is astounding – I’d just like to see point A so I can know how we got to point B, this kind of stuff interests me and I actually do quite a bit of it in my free time.
But has Sirlin actually expressed interest in including translations of the original win quotes in STHD in the first place?
