SRK Training Team (XBL)

man i lagged so hard on this, but ill post it up anyway cause i hate when people dont review when i play them.

Extremely late tournament review

vs Frylock set 1

We both played pretty patiently, i was very jump happy this day for some reason, but u were not punishing me for it at all. You got hit by more demon mix-ups this time too. you did keep your spacing pretty good, but i feel you would have done better being more on the aggressive side. more AA’s and reacting to my demon flips faster would have helped you a lot in this match.

vs steinmania

i was hoping to face you. your combos were pretty spot on, you missed a couple, but it wasnt too detrimental. not like the ones i missed were, ugh. You did hooligan on me from fs when i did FBS which you didnt do the last time we played, those worked well. also, when you were in my face doing the tkCS i back dashed out and to counter this you jumped up as i dashed back and did CS which worked well. unfortunately the second time and on when u did it i wasnt doing parry and idk why. but, regardless it was good to change deal with what i was doing. you had a little problems with FB pressure when u didnt have meter, idk what answers cammy has for this other than that slow ass twist punsh thing that can be punished by me on reaction. overall though good games, i hope to play u again.

vs tyrone kupples

your feilong, you need to learn that gouken matcup. Fei is a huge problem for gouken. CW is a NIGHTMARE and you were not abusing it at all. you also had a lot of trouble getting in for the most part. I was able to bait and punish your ex CW often. idk what else to say, you only used him once.

i cant remember who you used second but he needs work too.

then you picked random, which i dont know why, i thought u just gave up or something. it landed on vega, and at first i didnt take u seriously cause u picked random. I should have though cuase u were actually decent with him. i dont play many vegas so i am not too familiar with the matchup and i always right him off as random which isnt true about him, it just looks like that to me. to kept away and tried to make me come at you and taunted me which im assuming was an attempt to get me to come to u. i guess that works, but i take most taunts as an attempt to make me mad and mess up so i just ignore them. u played well being evasive and grabbing me often. overall i cant say much other than keep it up. oh, dont start the match with the roll too much. u did it like 3 times in a row and i just punished it each time.

vs frylock set 2

same shit different set up to round 3. You did a 180 changed up your style completely. got more aggressive reacted to my flips and jumps almost every time. anticipated a lot of my jumps and punished accordingly. I did not change anything at all and the results were in your favor for the next 2 rounds. the last one i kind of played a little smarter and you played a little more cautious but still aggressive. It came down to the wire, and you pulled out the win. good stuff. the changes u made were spot on. she is an offensive character and u should player her as on, especially on gouken.

vs Sho 7 Gu n God

good games, your links and execution are very consistant with ryu. you still need to learn that abel matcup a little more. but i like the adjustments you made: back dash, standing hk, i roll and you c.mkxxfb, etc. it was working. some of those matches got pretty intense, just remember, you dont want to fb if i have ultra. But you can try to bait my ultra by doing fb and fadcing out with a backdash and that seems to work as a safe bait. just something to think about. lastly, all the wakeup DPs you did were unsafe. My suggestion is to not do them unless i am right next to you. when you did them you either missed completely or i blocked it when you were already off the ground so you could not FADC out. I kept my distance on purpose for that reason, but also tried to make it look like u could get me still. watch out for that, and it would probably be best to not wakup dp unless im right next to you just to be safe.

vs jackzenith2010

ggs man, your abel is a problem. I want mine to be more knowledgable like yours. solid execution and you never missed your combo into ultra, and you also had good mix-ups. you also used a lot of command grab, which i need to put more of in my game, instead of going to normal grab that can be teched.
against your akuma you had great combos and execution, nice ability to keep away, but you got a little predictable and baitable with your DP at times. you didnt do it too much when you didnt have meter, but its something to pay attention to. Also, your teleporting was another predictable move. quite a few times with abel i was waiting for u to do it so i could roll with you, i wasnt able to punish you cause im still working the kinks out of that but it was working to keep close to you. i did see you ultra when u thought i was doing to roll, and it would have worked if my roll had come out, lol. that lets me know though that i was being predicable as well. so i slowed that down. against ryu you need to find a way in on gouken and stay there as long as you can. i was able to keep you out for the most part and when you did get in i was able to send you flying. try to be a little more patient and when we get in a close fb war try to slip in some ex fbs to score a knockdown, once u get one, its a doorway in to me. so, dash in and make the most of it.

i think thats it and im all caught up now. heh

**Vs. KillaKelly

I had to try some ridiculous things against you, and even when I did find a strategy, you ended up adjusting anyway. The reason why I did so many wake up shoryuken’s is because I had nothing else to try.

I have nothing to say about your Abel, because I don’t know anything about him.

vs. OMFG ITS JR

Great games the other nite. You’re the 1st Vega I have ever played so I didn’t know how to get around a lot of your stuff.

The main thing that stuck out for me was being more careful with his jumping off the walls stuff (wall dive?) as I noticed if I let you get in deep I could get a free SRK which could lead into Ultra.

Don’t always try to c.lp/c.mp (not sure which it was) during block strings cause I can delay into SRK/c.FP among other attacks to hit you for free.

Other than that I can’t really think of anything cause you were getting me a bunch with those annoying pokes!

Good games.

I found the thread! xD
Well, thx for inviting me to play some casuals. Be an instinctive player. Do what u think is right. Play as if that game was ur last game. If u have any questions on developing ur playstyle and on 'what-if" suggestions, go ahead and p.m. me. I’ll be glad to help. Below is a link of my philosophy on Street Fighter. I don’t know how much this could help, b/c indeed this is my opinion. These are blogs i have created on Street Fighter, hopefully, they will be of some help somewhere down the road.

From a yesterday I think: gg to gamertag kyarisan (Akuma)

You have a strong Akuma in the making. As you started to notice standing roundhouse is really effective against Gen. You really need to start using more demon flip mixups. You were hitting me with them quite a bit, but you were coming in at the same angle with the same attack mostly. When I saw that I started to counter. What you need to do now is, since you have trained me to look for that specific move, is to start mixing it up. Akuma has too low health to become predictable.

vs reelsmartkid

only played 4 matches, but I could tell you’ve improved from the last time we played lol.
You should punish Blanka balls more, you missed a few opportunities. You also didn’t anti air some jump ins. That’s about it.

vs Kyarisan

GGs man, you’re getting better. Your combos are good, I seem to get caught in them all the time. Your mixups were very good.

against me, you have 2 things to work on.

  1. Don’t spam the round house. The second kick whiffs most of the time, and I can get a free combo.
  2. Use your ultra. The only time you used your ultra against me was when I missed mine. You should be using it more often when I jump in.

Thanks! You were using Cammy and I don’t understand a thing about her and plus you ran a train over me a lot of times lol, so I don’t know what else to say for advice other than keep the love for the game alive! Always remember what SF4 goes back to, which is you vs that other dude sitting next to you… it’s more than just a game, it’s a battle of wits.

Thanks for the games man, I learned a lot about vs Gen. And I have more to learn. If you ever feel like treating me to another taste of that Gen… drop a line, I’ll be there ASAP

EDIT: The demon flip throw is probably really good vs Gen, it’s one of the things I’m trying to incorporate into my Akuma right now.

Are there any good BLANKA players here…I could really do with the practice in this match up and I also have a tournament match coming up which I wanted to play for too…

BTW, I play with RYU.

Add me if you are interested, thanks in advance.

Vs. SoleAssassin10:

I really got kicked by your skill. I wasn’t in my best shape and was somewhat pissed…

Good games overall. On the good side you really some good combos but sometimes you lack on timing. Also you jump a lot, try not to jump as much and wait for the opponent to jump. Other thing is you Shoryuken a lot on wake-up… That can be good at times but as you saw I could sometimes predict when you were going to do it and punished you with a throw.

vs. Goose

GGs man, we didn’t play a whole lot though. Just 6 games… Your Abel isn’t too bad, but if you resort to the tornado throw, I can run you over real easy. Your AA throw can beat my TKCS, you should try mixing that up on your wakeup. Happy Birthday (super) on wakeup will beat my TKCS as well. Ultra looses.

Against your boxer… I don’t really know. You hit me with some good combos. Your overhead got me most of the time as well, I was so sure I pressed back + grab on those… They were close. If anything, it’s matchup experience. For the most part, I know what you’re going to do, but do you know what move I’m going to do next?

GGs

VS. Omfg it’s junior

I haven’t played any good claws ever so it took me a while to adapt to your style. Your claw is pretty solid. Only thing I noticed was you wall jumped too much to a point where you were becoming predictable. Also you didn’t use ur air throw as much. Since I was constantly jumping in due to the fact claws AA isn’t good . There were times a quick air throw wouldve got me. Sorry I left quick but ggs

VS Novagrau

Good games…You jump in way too much and ate deep shoryu everytime. I felt you FA waaaay too much and I was able to deal out a lot of easy damage due to it. Although you did hit me a few times with it due to me not being on my A game and generally exhausted, I would suggest you use it sparingly. Your Shoryu > FADC > Ultra was done to a T which was nice to see…My one word of advice would be to tighten up your game. You have decent spacing, good execution and you give out nice damage. If you tightened your game up more, made the opponent work harder for their damage, you would become alot better.

Pc

sorry if its been addressed, but I searched and didn’t see it- is there something like this for PC players on GFWL?

vs NinjaCW ryu

your ryu is nice, good footsies, zoning, and execution, cant say much about him. Dont remember if you did this or not, but use crossover tatsu beceause it works great for mind games since its ambiguos once you mix it up with regualr j.hk it destroys a lot of people. As for me cr.lp - cr.mp is a link but its 1 frame, like all of my other links.. And for the wall dive i can continusly izuana drop you regardless if you do deep SRK, but its hard because i have to use the auto lock on that makes your SRK go in the right direction to my advantage by making it lock on to the other side and then switch to the other side real fast. still trying to master that skill. GG’s and play you soon.

vs Shin Wolfe / Balrog/M.Bison

Your Rog and Bison are good, the only thing i can say about your Rog is that use those footsies, you dont have to against Vega, but its still a good skill. For your Bison learn block strings, it means free pressure for Bison, + a potential counter hit canceled into a SK giving you a knock down giving you the advantage again for those ambiguous cross ups. the wall dives where there because im experimenting against Rog, he is one of those few characater i can abuse this on and im trying to master the skill. GG’s and play you soon.

vs Newbkills / Ryu

Your Ryu got better, much better. New block strings, more pressure using different block strings, good use of ambiguous cross ups, good AA skills, great zoning game, and reactions. The only advice i can tell you is work on SPS - cr.hp xx (insert move) sure its hard, but it means much more meter, more damage, and stun. And your footsies, ryu has great footsies abuse them. You have good pokes and try to use all the normal moves you have, Maybe u dont need them all, but each move has a use and property that can stuff other pokes because it shifts your hit box during animation and the more you know the better of you are.

vs Vaccant1 / Balrog

Work on your footsies, there is no need to be on the other side of the screen when you dont have fireballs. learn to hit confirm you did cr.lp -cr.lk xx headbutt way to many times. and when you tried to mix it up with cr.lp - cr.lp xx overhead that is risky i could have easily ST you on start up but the lag made that really hard. and during block strings dont random headbutt, such a bad idea, especially when you play characters who have block strings are easier than mine. Other than that you have a solid Rog.

vs OMFG its Jr
Thanks for the long session. This is really like the 2nd time I’ve played against Vega and the first time was with you also, haha. As far as what was working on your end, your spacing was really good after you got past my fireball pressure. I noticed you had trouble getting in with no meter but was really good at resisting jump ins to close space. Your back dashing was also very good. I was trying to attempt to option select into Tatsu with my jump ins but never executed it right. Blocks strings held me down very well, especially in the corner.

One thing that I felt you were either holding back or not using fully was tick throws. In the first 10 matches or so, I didn’t get tick thrown that much. I personally have a hard time teching throws which I’m sure you noticed from 2 or 3 consecutive tick throws you did in one of the later matches, but you could have easily exploited that more in the beginning. In general, I did not feel that threat during a majority of your strings.

Some of your meaty wake up attacks were predictable. I tried to reversal a lot of them but failed miserably on my part. Aside from that, at the distance you sat, I had no need to worry about being thrown, so I could just block every time. I’m not sure if that’s necessary based on Vega’s moveset, but that’s just an observation I had.

Wall dives were really kicking my ass. I don’t know how to deal with them yet. Perhaps you can shed some light on that.

What I Need to Practice: Everything

I actually just seen this thread for the first time but was reading the thread and found it very intriguing and resourceful. As I was scrolling down reading the thread posts I noticed a familiar gamertag because he’s on my friends list Dannkk who btw is a pretty cool guy from what I’ve seen. We have played some long matches together and he has showed me some useful combos. I’ve been working on my Ryu for about a month now and need much more work on it. I’m not a noob, not that it matters, but I would definitely like to improve my game for future tourneys and what not. I feel like this group could definitely put me in the right direction and look forward to playing with you all. Thank you
