SRK Training Team (XBL)

as far as i know the irc chat is for both xbl and psn…but yea man just send the request and i’ll get it when i get off of work.

Tournament 3

What do you guys think about having the next tournament at a scheduled time where all players must be present and need to stay until it’s over or they get eliminated?

To speed things up. We can do FT3 instead of FT5 since FT5 can take quite a while. Grand finals will still be FT5. Double elimination.

I’m thinking either a Saturday or Sunday mornings/afternoons. I’d anticipate the whole thing taking 2-3 hours tops. We’ll use the IRC chat to communicate with one another.

It’s not going to to be this weekend. Maybe next weekend if there is enough interest. Please let me know.

In for next weekend.

Btw, I can’t thank you enough for the effort you’re making here. I know it’s tedious and some of us are asses who don’t listen, so kudos. Also great job on the irc channel. Nothing like getting some live feedback between matches to improve your game. Cheers

what about all day friday and saturday and then sunday night for finals?

vs aboffman

I appreciate you taking the time to play a beginner. I learned some good things. Hopefully i made you sweat a little. Because we are on different levels i only have comments on what you did well. This was a good matchup for me because I struggle against good rogs and dictator.

Balrog
I was impressed with how well you were hitting your links. It seemed like you only ever messed up with Dictator. With Balrog it seemed like you were hitting close to 100%. The only time I think I made you change up tactics was when I played runaway Seth, you adjusted and won.

Dictator
I noticed your Balrog links were really good compared to Bison’s, but once you got warmed up it seemed you were hitting pretty consistant. Dictator is the one guy I really struggle with because of the many ambiguous crossups you were pulling off. Very well don.

Look forward to playing you again and making it a little more competitive

I’ll have video up so everyone can critique my play and give me some helpful tips

Probably not since most people work on Fridays. And don’t have all day to play SF4 on weekends cause they have wife, kids, gf’s, trips, etc.

I don’t think 100 people would show. It would be more like a 16-20 people tourney that would only take a few hours to complete, if even that since everyone can play at the same time unlike real tournaments that are limited to the number of setups available.

All weekend? We could play a whole other Evo and then some in that time.

I think this would be very difficult with people fighting from different time zones (CA vs NY). I think making it a 2-day frame would be fine, makes it easier for people to meet up.

Vs Fragtality

GG’s, I had fun playing, I hope you did to. The biggest thing you need to do is practice hitting your combos, since certain times you would get a c. lp hit confirmed and you wouldn’t finish with a combo both with seth and ryu (this is something I need to work on as well, I miss combos sometimes as you may have saw). Also, just learn the match ups, so you’ll know what you can and shouldn’t do against each character. Like for example I think ryu’s crouching mid kick stuffs my dash punches as Rog, then you can cancel into a hado. You’d make me think twice about random dash punches. You have tons of room to improve so you’ll probably catch up fairly quick as you start learning your match ups and getting you’re combos down. If you want to play again, just let me know.

Hey, I really appreciate the advice and I’m definitely going to work all of this in to my game plan. I hope we can gets some more ft5’s in the future, because I really learn a lot when I fight you.

let me get in this yeah? but i cant do the irc thing cuz i usually dont go on my laptop for internet. Why not just be in a party?

a tournament around noon on either saturday/sunday would be a good time for it

but not everyone can stay through the whole thing because well people have lives and can’t always dedicate 2-3 hours straight towards gameplay. maybe having the first and second rounds on saturday would be good and then having the rest on sunday. that way it would take less time out of somebody’s day

or we could have like a week long tournament and we have to set a date for each round to finish

ex. round one starts on monday and everyone should play their matches by wednesday
then everyone plays their round 2 matches by friday and then the rest of the matches should be played on saturday except for the final match which is reserved for sunday. this might help with the time consumption and time zone problem. also when school starts people will still try to get in their sf4 but on weekends we (at least me) might have to study and do homework and stuff and might not be able to fit in sf4

i think this is a better way of having the tournament but i could be wrong

That’s what we’re doing right now. Takes too long and if you check out the brackets, there were like 2 or 3 matches out of 10 that didn’t get played in time.

The idea of the 2-3 hour tournament is also to try to simulate a real tourney as much as possible. Spread out, its kinda just another match. But all at once, you might feel a little more pressure as it progresses. I don’t know if that’s the case or not, but it’s gotta be better than the current format.

As far as Xbox party, I read that you can only have 8 people in one party. I was actually hoping to use that, too. It would have made more sense.

I think we should have a one day tourney. It lets people feel the stress of new matches right away and they will end. Also doing a best out of three will make people play harder.

Tournament 2 Round 2
The Brown 0ne vs ImTomDotCom (5-1 ImTomDotCom)

Blanka/Ryu/Chun-Li vs Gen

First off, nice techs man. You teched like 90% of my throw attempts. You’re combos w/ Gen were also nice. They did plenty of damage and you were able to mix it up with FADC w/ some and go for grabs and the likes.

vs my Blanka
This is the only character I was able to win once with. I think I got you with some slides and sweeps that coulda been blocked…that’s about it.

vs my Ryu
Gen’s jump is kinda weird and I threw unsafe fireballs that you were able to punish because of that long jump.

vs my Chun
Gen also doesn’t jump that high…I thought I could do my air grab and get you a few times, but that didn’t work. Got caught in your FADC mixup thing you do w/ her.

Edit: Sorry for the lack of input, but I’m not really familiar with the Gen matchup. The main thing I was looking for was your wall jumps to punish with a shoryuken or upball. I didn’t see you use it much, which is a good thing (i remember seeing one at the end of a round w/ my ryu, tried to SRK>FADC>Ultra, but messed up and did an EX hado - so just watch out for those wall jumps)

vs DisBChance

u might not want to use your sweep so much because its easily punishable with focus attacks…and your random headbutts can also get you in a lose of trouble…besides that 9 times outa ten you’ll hit your ultra after headbutt which is good…and u have good mixups as well

vs SpiralAu

you have good use of s.mk and s.hk for poking…i think u should definitely use it alot when having someone cornered…u could really do some dmg there…umm u should also stop poking on wake up especially against characters who can wakeup and cancel into ultra…like ryu and sagat. Besides that just work on your BnB some more

Tournament Match
Round 2
asiantom vs The Brown One

5-1 asiantom

Good games, man.

vs Chun Li
I don’t know much about Chun Li but the great Chun Li’s I’ve played zoned very well with slow projectiles and normals. I jumped in over a lot of fireballs and got to either fierce or roundhouse into MKxxhands a lot. It would also improve your pressure game if you incorporated her over head more during blockstings. (the 180 backwards + kick move?)

vs Ryu
I feel there was another zoning issue here. I don’t think there were enough shoryukens. Ryu is usually a very tough match for me because Ryu’s turtle with projectile pressure then SRK when I try to jump in. It require me to be very patient. I felt like you were catching onto that later in our matches though, which also just showed me you’re unfamiliar with the Gen match? Which is understandable, I benefit no one when I play Gen haha.

vs Blanka
You’re blanka was the toughest for me. You have great control over your charges and there were times where I wasn’t really sure what was going on :\ I was really afraid you were going to stick with Blanka for the duration of our matches, and I think that would have been better than Chun or Ryu. Especially because I’m very familiar with those two.

Good games again, I hope you have input for me!

Also, I did not record these matches again. I’ve given my cameras memory card to a friend for the week :[

****I fought RINGORED Tonight (Ryu (dweignomari) vs RINGORED (Balrog Boxer))

I have to admit, he was VERY skilled with Balrog. we had about seven matches. I was actually surprised when i fought him cuz he was the first Balrog player to actually FIGHT instead of turtling. He gave me a run for my money. He TICK THREW me a lot. Once he had me in the corner, i was about to get stunned. The pressure he layed on was crazyThe only thing he would prolly have to improve on is his HEADBUTT attack. He missed the headbutt combo a lot and i got to punish him a lot because of it. Other than that, we had a bunch of good games and he is a great training partner!****

VS Kyroc 4 Ever

We played a ton of games. At least 40. I wanted to make sure I could really assess your game when it came time to write this.
I’ll start with your Ken since you picked him the most I’m assuming he’s your main. You have this really uncanny timing with his normals. Regardless of what character I picked half of the moves I did were interrupted by normals. That was your strong point.
You play him too defensively. Sometimes you would just crouch for 5 or 6 seconds at a time. The worst thing you do is put yourself in the corner. Being pushed into the corner is one thing but putting yourself there is really bad. When I play your ken it feels more like I’m fighting Chun-Li or Guile since your always backing away. I don’t hate turtles but Ken’s game is really offensive. Not like ryu who relies on zoning.
Your execution could use some work. There were plenty of times to punish me with big combos or ultras that you just didn’t even attempt.
I’ll do your bison too. Even though you don’t know his combos he seemed like a better fit for you. Since theres actually a reason to crouch being he’s a charge character. You should avoid backing yourself into a corner. Use his S.MK & S.HK cause they’re better than half of the special moves in the game.
I tick threw you alot in hopes that you would catch on and watch for the easy ones that people usually set-up. You never really caught on but I know you will if I do it enough Lol.
PS this isn’t nearly as harsh as it sounds

juicy, you have no review for me from our matches? anything that you thought i could work on?

Good games to you too Khaliem, and thanks for the kind words. Your definitely right, I did miss the headbutt combo a lot as well as every other combo i tried, I don’t know what has been wrong with my execution recently.
Your ryu is pretty good. You seem to know your basic combos pretty well and you made good use of mixing up mk crossup with an empty crossup to throw. You kept me guessing, which is always important.
One thing I would work on is throwing out Fierce srk’s, especially on wakeup. They leave you far to vulnerable when whiffed/blocked and are generally not worth the risk.
As well, I would try and mix up ex fireballs in with your regular fireballs more often. I noticed that you hardly ever threw EX’s and ended up ex dash punching through a few of your fire balls.
Other than that you are doing well, keep up the practice!
