What I’d like to do at some point for the ‘official’ seal is make small Official Seal of Nintendo Icons with either the face of the character or something along the lines of ‘Official seal of <character>’
The ‘Official Seal Smackdown’ won’t take place for a while anyways. I’m gonna hold off until everyone has a good handle on the Wii U version and use that as our base. I suspect ‘Reference Rumble’ will be our first tournament
Yea, that’s another possibility. It kinda defeats the purpose if they aren’t immediately visible, though. We have time, so let’s marinate on it and see what we can come up with.
In other news, I very highly doubt I will be able to myself participate in the league. Unless/until I have a good handle on everything, making sure the wheels spin on is more important
Hey now, I’ll have you know Unfair Share was always a solid team in its time. Never won any majors, but we always placed high (top 10% high). Short of some Ken/Isai tier players in here, I’d be droppin’ that smack right quick if I were you.
You kidding? I’m the cowardly TO who’s not even participating in his own league. Hell if I’m not gonna take advantage of this to do a little smack talk!
But yeah, will LordLocke be on Wii U, 3DS or both?
Now that Nintendo has posted rules for their own tournaments ( http://smashbros.nintendo.com/rules/ ), I thought there were some good points in it that we ought to discuss for our league. Do we have any rulings on the following?
Character Changing: Under what circumstances may you change your character? Are you allowed to re-customize your moves during the league session? If so, what standards do we wish to apply to it? Should players have to ‘register’ their characters/movesets ahead of time?
Movelist Disclosure: That is, some way to tell your opponent what your custom move set is? Perhaps we could be on IRC at the time and state in chat. Something like: “(Opponent Name), I am using Palutena for this round. Moveset is Auto-Reticle (Neutral B1), Reflect (Side B1), Jump Glide (Up B2), and Counter (Down B1).”
I’m pretty sure we’re not doing equipment so I’m gonna ignore that part, but I’d imagine that move-shifts would occur the same time as anything else character-wise. Only on a loss. I don’t imagine there being many reasons to actually switch a custom move for another mid-match very often.
Equipment simply can’t be allowed. It’s randomly generated. Someone, somewhere, will have better equipment than their opponent and that will make the match unfair in and of itself. I don’t think anyone’s seriously discussing that.
The rest of it though we do need to codify some way, or there will be issues with it at some point in time. With our rules as currently written, nothing seems to forbid you from switching characters even after a win.
I suspect IRC is going to be a pivotal part of our league regardless, since we NEED somewhere to quickly discuss stage/item bans for a match without cluttering up the forums. With the game dropping in a mere week from now, I strongly encourage everyone in this thread to get some kind of IRC client going and drop by the room sooner rather than later. That way, when league day hits we’re all familiar with how it works and there are no undue delays on that end. Further, I want to encourage everyone to register all the friend codes currently listed on page 1. I’ve done so for many of you (and I’m going to get the last one as soon as I finish this post) but only a few have done so in kind. Getting this stuff taken care of ahead of time means October 10 will be much more fun for all of us.
Currently the rules for item bans are pretty clean, and only need a small change to be perfect. A sentence to the effect of “prior to starting the match, you and your opponent may ban stages and items based on the following criteria:”, leading in to the current text (4 stage bans per player/team, 5 item bans per player/team) would do okay.
Moveset and character swaps are worth discussing however, along with whether we wish to require movelist disclosure (and how it is to be done).
Edit: To address your other point… no. Equipment is actually really easy to set, it’s just that the equipment you pick up has randomized stats within a range of values. So your ‘High-Punch Power Gloves’ for Mario might have better stats than someone else’s own gloves with that same name. It is an incredibly obvious balance problem (someone’s Mario can be numerically better than yours!), so they are rightly banned.
