There’s no option to reduce item frequency, but we can still pick and choose which items appear. I think that’s more important.

It’s “more” important, but if the game’s item frequency is too high, items will be shit regardless of which ones you turn off.
Not true. Not all items spawn at the same rate. Final Smashes for example, spawn rarely regardless of whether or not they are the only items
