Attn. Colonel-Gilgamesh: Effective immediately, I am withdrawing from the Item divisions due to an apparent lack of way to control the spawn rate; I feel items spawn too often in the 3DS version.
(Note that I might rejoin if a slider is patched in or the Wii U version has one. I am not opposed to items, just ‘tons of them.’)
I honestly haven’t felt the item spawn rate is too bad; it’s really more just which items appear. And on that note, these are the ones going straight to the top of my “bullshit item” list:

I’ll still do it for teams, but not singles.
I believe this would be best for now to work with. Basically, all players take a look at the grid. If you see a player online and/or in IRC and you don’t have a total of… 3? matches between the two of you, play a league game. This goes on until everyone has had 3 matches between everyone or perhaps a month or two (suggestion) passes. Those that have not completed their 3 both take a loss for each match missed. At the end, the top 4 or 8 (depending on the entries into the league) will play in a double elim tourney. Then the “season” is reset.
A match should consist of a best 2 out of 3 games played. The matches in question you can either play all at once or one at a given time. Periodic announcements as we near the end of the “season” should be put up to remind players that they are risking losses and who needs to play who.
CG, if you PM me here or on IRC the necessary info, I can add you to the doc to have edit access.
Also, we have only 3 teams completed for Teams, 2 for Teams Items. All you signed up for either of these need to get your shit together and pair up.
Lastly, I would like to make this my official drop out of the Single Items league. I may return once a) Wii U version is obtained and/or b) an item rate slider is found. As it stands, it’s dumb.
I’ll keep it up with Teams Items, but that’s tentative as well for me. Mostly for Locke’s benefit to still have a teammate.

IMO, if we really wanna get official, we can schedule out each week to say “these two players must get their matches in”. Say, two matches a week between any given 4 players. For singles, that would dial us down to a season being about 7 weeks.

Week 1 in this scenario I’d (1) need to get my matches in with Phantom Angel (12), Nephinel (10) and LordWilliam (8).
Alternatively, instead of mashing out the 3 matches in a season, we could triple the matchups a week, but only 1 match between each player, then rotate through thrice. This would probably be better for the chances that the players can’t meet up during that week, they only eat one loss instead of all 3.

Hello everyone. How’s it going? Tomorrow’s the start of the league, so I thought it’d be prudent to discuss a few things
The tournament format will go as such. The preliminaries will be round robin. Top 8 best scores move on to a single elim bracket.
In addition. I highly recommend everyone start looking for a partner. While you do not need an official partner to be a part of teams, it would be very helpful to both me and you if you found one in advance.
Lastly, you need to have all stages unlocked in order to participate. This seems kind of dumb, but a lot of people forget Flat Zone 2 is not only in the game, but also the hardest stage to unlock. You get it by beating the first page of challenges(35 of them). The challenges tab should help you with the rest

9PM EST. I have to be rigid about attendance though. If you are not present by 9:15, you are not counted that day. I don’t have time to dick around with this many people and round robin style.
