Should I just grab the DS game, or should I dust off my SP and get the old school ones? For some reason I thought the series was a DS series
I thought so as well. There were a few PW games out for DS, no?
Just get them all for the DS if possible.
The first AA game comes with an extra case on the DS version. And that case is now canon thanks to Apollo Justice/Ace Attorney Investigations plus is one of the best cases in the series (and is also the longest).
Ok, it seems from my wikipedia detective work, that the ace games came to america first as DS ports of the GBA games. So I just need the DS versions
Get the HD IOS games (if they’ve come out yet).
I’ll also give a bit more of a rundown.
AA1 is a solid game all the way through, but shit really picks up in Case 4 and Case 5. The first 3 cases are a decent ride, but the last 2 will hook you and get you emotionally invested. Well, Case 2 can do it too, the case itself though is obvious.
AA2/Justice for All…yeah. The weakest entry in the trilogy HOWEVER, it possibly has the best case in the entire series in its last case.
AA3/Trials and Tribulations: Great entry, improves everywhere for the most part. And it gives us Godot who is badass incarnate.
Ace Attorney Investigations (I’m going by game timeline, not release date): It’s…a departure. It plays somewhat differently than the AA series as a whole but it’s a solid entry to the lore. Unfortunately we haven’t gotten AAI2 ported yet which has been said to be a VAST improvement so…gah.
AA4/Apollo Justice: The most divisive game in the series. I won’t say why to avoid spoilers.
And then we have AA5/Dual Destinies on the horizon which looks badass.
Also possibly the worst case if we dont count tutorial stages, still a great game.
Man I wish we could get AAI2, I loved the first one. Maybe I can hope for a fan translation one day.
I’m gonna start really bugging my dad’s friends about helping him landscape and painting his house if you guys keep talking about how good these games are.
Especially since sikwidit obviously has good taste with the CS+ av
I’m pretty sure that they are in the process of debugging cases 1 and 2 in the fan translation.
Why not use your programming knowledge and pick up some odd jobs online?
Good question. How hard is it to find a project to work on from home? I’ve never really looked into it.
Is AA any good? I hear Phoenix Wright is low tier even in his game.
Thank you kindly sir.
Saitsu really hit it on the head though and if you like old school adventure type games and visual novels then you will like the PW: AA games since it is like a mix of both.
If you like those types of games I would also suggest Hotel Dusk and its sequel Last Window. Those were also great, the first one is the better one though.
I just checked GameStop.com and they have have it used for 5 bucks and new for 15.
The second one you would have to import from amazon
0_0 I had no idea that there was actually a fan translation happening so that is amazing. Thank you for bringing it to my attention.

Nah, AA’s great.
My friend didn’t make an account yet, so WTF is in now.

First, yes. It is one of the most amazing games I have ever played. If you like good characters, good story, plot twists, or “Who-Dun-Its” you’re probably gonna like Ace Attorney.
Second thing is gonna take a bit of explaining. Wright’s a bad lawyer by most standards but he manages to squeak by and save the day for his client, generally by utilizing one fact or piece of evidence that turns the entire case on its head, hence why the series uses the word ‘Turnabout’ every chance they get. The game loses some of its charm when you play as different characters like Edgeworth since he’s actually a good lawyer and knows what he’s doing, not the underdog flailing around in court that Nick is.
(For you guys who haven’t played the game, most characters call Phoenix Wright Nick)
Yeah, Nick’s been doing Comeback Mechanics before Capcom made them hated.
But he CAN indeed be a competent lawyer. Rise from the Ashes is the best example of this really.
Was Rise from the Ashes the last JFA case, or the last AA case? I agree that he can be competent, especially in the last case of the games, but the majority of the time he seems like he’s floundering in court and doesn’t entirely know what he’s doing.

The last AA case.
The last JFA Case was Farewell, My Turnabout.
Yes Rise of the Ashes is the best example of that. He is not so much of a bad lawyer as he is just inexperienced, however he is usually on the right track but just needs a little push. And also come on the cases he is put on are never normal cases, they are always the craziest fucking things that could ever happen.
Thanks, I always mix up case names.
Fair enough, he gets weird cases so I guess his inexperience shows a lot more.
