PW RULES AND INFO THREAD
30 Players total:
**- 18-19 Regular Civs
4 Special Civs
7(+1) Mafia **
= HOW TO PLAY MAFIA = (Stolen from SWBeta)
There are two groups of players: Civilians and Mafia . The game begins by throwing the players into a situation where mafia are hiding among the civilians, so you don’t know who to trust.
The game has two phases: Day time and Night time . In day time, civilians have power. Civilians hold a voting session to kill someone they think is mafia in the group. Whichever nominee gets the highest votes at the end of the voting period gets killed off, and can’t participate in the game anymore. After the kill, game switches to Night time. In night time, mafia have power. Civilians are asleep, and the mafia come out at night to assassinate a civilian of their choosing. Mafia members know who each other are at the beginning of the game (The game admin, aka me, PMs all the mafia members and lets them know who their fellow mafia are). After the mafia members get their kill, the game switches back to Day time. Voting periods for civilian and mafia kills are posted at the beginning of each Day/Night cycle.
How to win : If you’re a civilian, find and kill all the mafia members before they kill enough of you. If you’re mafia, kill enough civilians so that you have at least the same amount of civilians and mafia. Again, mafia wins if there are the same amount of civilians as mafia or if they outnumber civilians.
It’s a game of deception. Mafia has to trick civilians into thinking they’re on the same side while civilians have to be careful of who to trust. There are special roles which make the game more interesting and less role-reliant.
= BASIC RULES AND INFO =
All roles are Randomly chosen (http://adv-random-gen.sourceforge.net/rand-gen/index.php?gen=mafia ), unless Mafia side chooses Option #2 in {Turnabout Dilemma}.
Please bold and underline your lynch target in your post. You may un-lynch and lynch a new target before the deadline of each day phase.
When two or more players receive the same # of lynch votes, it will result in a No lynch .
When both “No lynch” and the “player lynch” receive the same # of votes, it will result in the player being lynched .
Other than between active mafia members, NO PM’s are ALLOWED among the active players . The Loser’s Lunge will be made for players who are eliminated from the game.
Special civs (UCs/Medic/Vigi) execute their night-phase power by PMing me “at night.”
No editing . If anyone edits a post, they will be instantly disqualified, regardless of the reason for the edit.
You may not like/agree/disagree after you are dead.
You may claim or lie about your role, but no revealing/quoting PM’s regarding role-assignment info or any info disclosed by me.
There will be last gasp in this game. Your Last Gasp will be PM’d to me. You have 18 hours to write the last gasp after your death. Mafia side will not get a last gasp (except by using [SACRIFICE]). However, if you want to give props after death, you may PM me and I will post it as an “out-of-game” message.
Failure to vote in the day phase will result in a warning. Failure to vote for two days in a row will result in disqualification .
“No Lynch” is allowed , but self-lynch isn’t.
= ROLES =
**Franziska Von Karma: Elite Detective (Detective/UC) ** – In addition to the regular civ’s duty, the Undercover has the power to investigate a single target every night. The affiliation will be revealed to the UC at the end of the night (INNOCENT targets will return INNOCENT/GUILTY targets will return GUILTY ). If the UC chooses to target themself, or if the UC’s target matches those of dUC’s, Medic’s, or Mafia’s [NO KILL] on the same night, the result will return “INCONCLUSIVE .” The UC cannot investigate players who are already dead. Moreover, UC’s investigation on dUC/Vigilante will yield “GUILTY .”

Dick Gumshoe: Foolish Detective (Detective/dUC) – In addition to the regular civ’s duty, the Dumbass Undercover has the power to investigate a single target every night. The OPPOSITE of the target’s true affiliation will be revealed to the dUC at the end of the night (INNOCENT targets will return GUILTY/GUILTY targets will return INNOCENT ). If the dUC chooses to target themself, or if the dUC’s target matches those of UC’s, Medic’s, or Mafia’s [NO KILL] on the same night, the result will return “INCONCLUSIVE .” The dUC cannot investigate players who are already dead. Moreover, the dUC’s investigation on a UC/Vigilante will yield “INNOCENT .”
http://i136.photobucket.com/albums/q168/fivedalanoodle/GumshoeClassic.jpg
*Note: *
When receiving “UC” roles, both UC and dUC will only know themselves as “UC.” The identity of dUC will not be revealed until the end of the game. No matter which UC is killed during the game, the story will only reveal that the “UC” is dead.
[Evidence Theft] : The name of the dUC’s target will be revealed to the Mafia next day. However, it does not reveal the target’s role. During the game, if one of the UC’s dies, the mafia will stop receiving the names of the investigation target from that point and onward, regardless of which UC is killed. If the Mafia side chooses to go for Option #2 of {Turnabout Dilemma} , then the names of the investigated from both UC and dUC will be given to mafia every night until one of the UC’s dies (i.e. [Evidence Counterfeit]).
The UC’s or dUC’s night action will be interrupted if they are protected by the Medic, and/or are the target of [NO KILL] for the night. The investigation result will return as “BOTCHED.”
If UC/dUC happens to investigate the target that is “protected” by the medic, and/or is the target of Mafia’s [NO KILL], the result will return as “INCONCLUSIVE.”
Maya Fey: Spirit Medium (Medic) – In addition to the regular civ’s duty, the Medic gets to protect a single target (except themself) every night from Vigilante and/or Mafia’s kills.
http://i136.photobucket.com/albums/q168/fivedalanoodle/MayaClassic-1.jpg
*Note: *
If the Medic happens to protect a special civ, they will also interrupt his action. **The Vigi cannot kill on the same night as they are protected by the Medic, and the UC/dUC cannot investigate on the same night as they are under protection by the Medic (i.e. “BOTCHED”). **
If the UC/dUC’s night target is “protected” by the Medic, the investigation result will be “INCONCLUSIVE.”
The Medic’s protection for the night becomes ineffective under Mafia’s [NO KILL].
Diego Armando: Rogue Proscutor (Vigi) – In addition to the regular civ’s duty, the Vigi gains one stock kill at night for each special civ kill by Mafia at night. The Vigi also gains a stock kill if Mafia enacts [SACRIFICE] as the UC or the Medic . The Vigi’s kill stock resets to 0 if the Mafia enacts [SACRIFICE] as the Vigi . The Vigi starts off the game with 0 stock kills. If a UC/dUC/Medic is killed, the Vigi gains a kill stock on the next night. If investigated, the investigation result for the Vigi comes back as “GUILTY” when investigated by UC, and is “INNOCENT” when investigated by dUC.
http://i136.photobucket.com/albums/q168/fivedalanoodle/GodotClassic.jpg
*Note: *
The Vigi may store all their kill stock for as long as they want, as long as they are alive. However, they can only kill one person per night.
The Vigi’s night action will be interrupted by the Medic if the Vigi is under their protection for the night, or if Vigi is the target of [NO KILL].
The Vigi’s kill stock is reset to 0 if the Mafia enacts [SACRIFICE] as the Vigi , or when Vigi is killed during the game.
The Vigi’s kill stock count is reported whenever the condition of stock increment/decrement is met, regardless of the Vigi’s status.
The Corrupt (Mafia) - In addition to the regular civ’s duty, the Mafia may kill one player per night. The Mafia may also use [NO KILL] or [SACRIFICE] as they see fit.
http://i136.photobucket.com/albums/q168/fivedalanoodle/CorruptClassic.jpg
[NO KILL] - If the Mafia side enacts [NO KILL], the night will end with a fabricated story that a Player (of the Mafia’s choice) is targeted by Mafia but is protected by the Medic. [NO KILL] is enacted before the Medic and the Vigi’s action. Under [NO KILL]:
The Mafia cannot kill or [SACRIFICE] for the night.
The Medic’s protection for the night becomes ineffective.
Both [NO KILL] and the Medic’s “protected” targets are “INCONCLUSIVE” upon investigation.
The Vigi is able to kill the target of Medic’s protection, but not the target of [NO KILL].
If the Vigi is the target of [NO KILL], the Vigi’s action is interrupted.
If the UC/dUC is the target of [NO KILL], the targeted UC/dUC’s investigation will return as “BOTCHED.”
[SACRIFICE] - If the Mafia side enacts [SACRIFICE], the identity of the dead Mafia member may be revealed in the write-up as any civilian roles (Regular, Vigi, Medic, or UC ) of their choice , and is allowed a last gasp. **In [SACRIFICE] mode, the Cause of Death can be fabricated to their own liking **(i.e. killed by Vigi, or killed by Mafia). Such a move will NOT change the dead mafia’s affiliation. (Therefore, if mafia side wins, he wins.) Under [Sacrifice]:
The Mafia cannot kill for the night.
The [Sacrifice] may be “saved” by the Medic if they are the target of the Medic’s protection for the night.
If the [Sacrifice] chooses the UCs or the Medic as their Cause of Death, The Vigi gains a kill stock.
If the [Sacrifice] chooses the Vigi as their Cause of Death, the [Sacrifice] must choose another player to be protected by the Medic from the Mafia in the write-up. The Vigi loses a kill stock as a result.
if the Mafia enacts [SACRIFICE] as the Vigi , The actual Vigi’s kill stock will be reset to 0.
{Turnabout Dilemma} - Before the game begins, mafia side also gets to choose one of the two options:
Option #1 : An extra mafia member (+1, chosen by the Mafia side) with the above rules. Only the dUC’s investigating target will be given to mafia side every night until one of the two UCs is killed. [Evidence Theft]
or
Option #2 : No bonus mafia member, but Mafia receive names from both UC and dUC’s investigated targets every night (in the form of UC: player 1 ; dUC: player2 ) until one of the two UC’s is killed. [Evidence Counterfeit]
The option which the Mafia chooses will NOT be revealed to the civilians until the end of the game.
= Role Assignment via PM =
All PMs to players followed this format:
= THE ORDER OF NIGHT EVENTS =
The order of all the night events, though often overlooked, is very important. This is the order of the events.
[ -= Mafia’s [NO KILL] =- ]
When enacted, the Mafia cannot kill or [SACRIFICE] for the night.
The Medic’s Protection becomes ineffective.
The target of [NO KILL] and the Medic’s Protection will return as INCONCLUSIVE upon investigation for the night.
The target of [NO KILL] is protected from the Vigi’s night kill. The Vigi loses a kill stock if they attempt to kill the target of [NO KILL].
If [NO KILL] is enacted on the Vigi, the Vigi’s action is interrupted for the night, but does not lose a kill stock.
If [NO KILL] is enacted on the UC/dUC, the aforementioned UC/dUC’s investigation target will return as “BOTCHED.”
** [ -= Medic’s Protection =- ]
The UC/dUC’s investigation is interrupted if they are under the Medic’s protection for the night. The UC/dUC’s investigation target will also return as “BOTCHED.”
The Vigi’s kill is interrupted if they are under Medic’s protection for the night. However, the kill stock is not wasted.
The Medic can prevent (rescue) a Mafia from using [SACRIFICE] at night. The Medic can also protect a Mafia member from being killed by the Vigi.
If Mafia kills the Medic before the Vigi’s action, the Vigi is free to kill, even if he or his target was under Medic’s protection. (See the order of night events.)
*** [ -= UC/dUC’s Investigation =- ]
If the UC/dUC is killed by mafia, the [Evidence Theft/ Counterfeit] will be deactivated immediately. Mafia will not be able to receive the dUC’s (and the UC’s if Option #2 of {Turnabout Dilemma} is selected) investigation target for that night and all following nights.
The UC’s receive their investigation result before the Mafia’s kill is available.
**** [ -= Vigi’s Kill =- ]
The Vigi’s kill stock is NOT wasted if the Mafia killed the target before the Vigi does.
The Vigi’s kill stock is NOT wasted if they are protected/interrupted by Medic.
The Vigi’s kill stock is NOT wasted if they are targeted by [NO KILL].
The Vigi’s kill stock IS wasted if their target is protected by the Medic.
The Vigi’s kill stock IS wasted if their target is protected by [NO KILL].
The Vigi’s kill stock is reset to 0 if the Mafia enacts [SACRIFICE] as the Vigi , or when Vigi is killed during the game.
Even if the Vigi is protected by the Medic, they are free to kill if the Medic was killed by the Mafia before the Vigi’s night action (see the order of night events).

@sikwidit : Only 4 special civs, lol. I have place all the explanations and answers there. Are you in?
@Vynce : Got it.
Of course, this is phoenix wright. I should have said what I did not read. I am super scared of what the mafia specials roles are going to be.
All fuckin’ IN. I love Phoenix Wright!
All mafia members can execute the two special abilities, but they are double-edged swords. None of the special abilities in this game are without consequences.

Thats what got me initially, I thought that the mafia had their own special attributes like in the last game. It is only the mafia characters that are kept secret. For the story I presume.
