ok. well what settings should i use? can u recommend me some gear to look at? i got my 60d and my tamron 17-55 2.8 lens and as well as a canon ef 50mm 1.8. i dont think the tamron lens are fast enough. from review the only con about that lens is its a little on the slow side but thats about it. what are some suggested lens and flash i should look into?
Offline I have multiple hard drives where I scatter all but my most recent photos. I have everything over a year old on my normal computer, two different external drives, and my work computer.
For online I use Google/Picasa. Gmail accounts are free (of which I already have 3 anyway for various email purposes) which means nearly unlimited amounts of storage on Google.
Settings? Like camera settings? I would go with manual with Auto ISO enabled on the 60D. Use the 50mm stopped down to 1.8 if you donāt have a flash. I personally think the metering takes photos too light on the 60D (in other words I like to underexpose according to the meter) but you may feel differently. See what you can get away with in terms of shutter speed. Keep in mind youāll be shooting an active scene if you are doing arcades and the people in it, so youāll most likely need a faster shutter speed to compensate for movement in your photo on top of the low light.
I really have no experience with shooting people in dim lighting and or inside activities including people. You are going to have to experiment really.
As far as flashes, Iād look for an adjustable one you can bounce off the ceiling or something. I donāt have experience with flash either, because, again, I like to shoot in the daylight or with still objects. In the case of still objects, I can just open it up, adjust the ISO and drop the shutter speed as need be.
oh k thanks for the tips. I also like to take night photography i got a few shots to share. once i get it uploaded through my flickr account ill post it up
ill look into this more and do some research before buying more expensive gear.
Some really nice pictures up in here. I was wondering, I am using one a basic olympus camera. Basically what I been doing with my pictures is try to incorporate photo raw and try to make the pictures nice even though I have a crap camera. Just wondering your take on it, I put my lasted batch on my blog http://merdocnyc.blogspot.com/.
I took these a mont and a half ago. Just me messing around.

I dig the dog photo. What is that thing that looks like an eye?
Sing-a-ma-jigs.
man, now I want some chicken!
Yep, the eye is actually a mouth. You press the stomach and the mouth opens, then the little bear like doll starts to sing. Tight that jdm714 knew, yep.
Sup SRK photogs⦠after shooting for years (mostly casually) with a point and shoot, I went in on some SLR equipment about a month ago. So far Iāve shot a few bands as well as a SF tournament (which since Iām ass at SF is a good way to get best of both worlds). I love shooting events ⦠so Iām gonna try and blow up some tournament photography, since aside from Karaface you donāt see much of that. Obviously thereās not as much demand for that as there is for, say, streaming ⦠but itās an interesting perspective that even a stream canāt provide.
Some of my shots are below. Tournament shots are here. My best stuff is on 500px, and most of my other āgalleriesā are on SmugMug. I also shot Macyās NYC fireworks, which was a great experience.

I love when this thread resurrects.
The Gull shot is awesome on so many levels. Also love the guitar and drummer one.
EDIT: BTW are any of you from NYC? Iād love to meet up and go shoot different parts of NYC with other peopleā¦
Thanks man.
Iām in NJ, but close enough to the city. Give me a shout if you want to do some shooting.
then let me! i have the lens that came with my nikon d5000, so i canāt get much depth of field or other cool stuff, i also have no stand so night shots take some improv, but its kinda fun!
i should run them through photoshop to adjust the colourws and brightness but iām lazy

I went to a full contact karate tournament this past sunday. This is one of the many pics I took. Some didnāt come put like I wanted them too.
What style is that Gimp?
Itās Enshin, which is an offshoot of Kyokushin. The main difference between Enshin and Kyokushin is throws and takedowns are allowed in Enshin. Iāll post some more pics later.
