SRK Photographers Thread Vol. 1

Anti-Girl: I really like your stuff. How much are you touching them in photoshop?

My girlfriend oddly enough had a light tent laying around that we both forgot about. So I started messing around with it for a little bit today. I had zero luck with using white as the background - the cloth she had was really wrinkled and I couldn’t get any shots without just seeing all the wrinkles. The black, although hella wrinkled as well turned out a lot better.

I decided to keep the UV filter on. I was wondering if it was going to mess around with any of the indoor pictures I’ve been taken but it seems to mind its own business. I had read a lot of people were getting reflections and stuff with them but so far I haven’t seen anything like that.

good decision. youd only get weird reflections if there are alot of ambiant lights around you. like if youre in a dark room and there are candles, you might get some reflections in the lens(this is where a lenss hood would come in handy). i dont encounter it to often, but it happens.

blooper, thanks, no photoshop AT ALL.
i use film cameras for one and use color filters on my lenses, sometimes with colorflash

more here

I’ll contribute later, but right now I just have a little suggestion. Could you guys list more technical details about your pictures like camera body, lens, aperture, shutter speed, etc. just for the curious :wgrin:

That’s my dA page, but I don’t update it as often as I should… I just hate the process of uploading there. I need to get around to organizing my pictures on there as well. There’s a bunch of stuff in there, still trying to find some models to use my lighting system on. I ordered it last fall and haven’t had much of a chance to use it. I’ve been doing lots of stuff with long exposure random photos when driving at night lately. Trying to make abstract style photos using just lights and then photoshopping it later. I’ll post some here…

There’s a bunch more on my myspace too that I didn’t upload to dA. Feel free to friend me on there or whatever. I’ll get to uploading all my pics sometime soon and categorize them. I got some cool stuff on there I really like.

My flickr pro just ran out so I can’t access a lot of my photos… grr.

It’s good to see that this is going really well though.

As for specs, I shoot with a Canon Rebel XT, a Canon 17-F40L, a Canon 70-200 F4L, and I have a Canon 75-300 IS F4-5.6 but I never use it anymore.

Some long exposure stuff…

i got a 350D myself. so you dont have anything between the ranges of 17 and 75?
is that 75-300 usm also? i was trying to get that, but i settled with a 75-300 non IS non usm. its hellish at night/indoors, but its cool during the day.

tabblo vs. flickr

Interesting shots. I’m not very much into photography myself, but I recommend you guys check out www.tabblo.com for online photo-sharing, which I’ve read seems to be better than flickr (or others) for those more serious about photography and offers better features (but still is very easy to get up and running for amatuers like myself when I just want to share pics from the last weekend with friends/family). Also if you already have a bunch of photos on flickr, you can share them with your tabblo account too. There are also a few different ways to upload multiple photos at once.

Here’s one idea, maybe you can have a photo contest for those of you guys going to the next Evo? (if they allow cameras in?) With tabblo, the rest of us can order high quality posters/postcards of your shots, directly from that site.

btw most of my photos on tabblo, if anyone’s curious, should be tagged with “davidboudreau”

woops, meant to type in 17-40 F4L.

Yeah it’s USM. I’m pretty sure it’s just the old model of the 70-300 IS that Canon is currently making. I think Canon decided to rename it because of the “portrait problem” the 75-300’s were having (pure guess).

I got a lot of good use out of it and the IS was good for low light shooting, but I’ve become too accustomed to shooting with “L’s”.

My GF took this picture when we climbed a big hill in San Bernardino.

Hey Tian, I really like that first pic you posted in your last post. Reminds me that I need to hit up the bowling alley around here soon at night on the weekend one of these days.

On a more important note, I have the same 75-300 lens that you do and am in the same boat of “not using it very much”. I am looking for a replacement telephoto lens. I think i’m gonna get a wide angle first though, canon makes a nice 10-22 or 10-24 or something thatI wanna get. I just wish lenses weren’t so expensive. So yea, you have any ideas on a good replacement for the 75-300? I really don’t like the way it takes pictures.

nice thread

i will post some stuff from my honeymoon soon

I don’t use the 75-300 anymore because of the 70-200 F4L I bought. Depending on what you are going to shoot it’s an amazing lens. The extra 100 mm you lose is annoying, but there are plenty of other features that make up for it. My only to major dislikes about it, are now I wish that I had waited and gotten the 2.8. Also, I think it depends on the body, but the lens loves to back focus. I’ve gotten into the habit to always focus manually except for sports because of the lens.

I wanted to buy a wide angle lens too awhile ago, but just before I bought it, I found a 17-40 used for $550. It was an L and wasn’t digital only like the ultra wide (10-22).

I write more later, but have to leave. Excuse the typos please…

I see, maybe sometime this week I will go down to the photo store sometime this week and check it out if they have it in stock. Only thing about the 17-40 is i already have an extremely nice Tamron lens that covers most of that range. I really need/want the ultra-wide angle for some stuff I plan on doing, so I’m gonna go with that one. I’ll look into those ones you did mention though.

the T1AN,
Those long exposure pics are nice. I have a question for the second pic. How did you get those light trails without distorting the rest of the pic? Was any of it done in post? Thanks.

For that picture I just took a 25 second exposure, waved my camera around for about 5 or 10 and then set it down on a fence post to compose and capture the still image. I need to buy a tripod and try a couple of different things, but my current photo budget = $0.

Thanks, I’ll have to mess around with my camera in a similar fashion. I appreciate it.

took this a while back at the LA auto show.

this one was nice too.

I hate how flickr sucks the saturation out of photos…

Anyway, graduating tomorrow!!!
