SRK Newbie Saikyo Dojo Execution Guide (read me!)

I had a similar problem, I also hold my stick the same as you goober. The only problem is RYUs FADCs on 1P side.

For me its because dashing requires two fingers against the joystick on the 1P side and the muscle is tense, but on 2P without thinking I use the thumb. Its more precise and faster.

There will always be some movement in your wrists and hands, but you’re going to be much more nimbler in your execution if you try to mainly use your fingers to do the movements. You’ll move faster, lighter, and more efficiently, when you try to limit how many muscles are used to move the stick around. I notice that a lot of new players who aren’t used to playing on a stick tend to make very forceful and exaggerated movements to execute, and it’s really not necessary on japanese parts. This is just general advice, and might not to apply to everyone, but it’s a good place to start if you want to increase the precision of your left-hand movement.

I find the quickest way to get ranked matches, is to play in arcade mode with that request function turned on. This way you can practice your basic combos, and get warmed up while waiting for someone to join your room. At times it can get boring just sitting at your couch waiting for someone to pop up.

I dislike the practice of setting the max rounds to five. The 3-round system is absolutely perfect in design, and having a prolonged match requires a different strategy, especially for meter management. Having to play less rounds also builds up your ability to quickly observe any tendencies and weaknesses in the other guy’s gameplay, and hopefully come up with a counter-strategy to win within 3 rounds.

I personally prefer to cross my arms and use the joystick with the right palm since it is more responsive this way.
I got used to it.
Some people used to play this way in the arcades.i dont know if you can find some still

Sorry, but you’re way off here. Finger muscles only? Maybe this works for you, but don’t give that advice to others.

Daigo’s Hands:

Justin Wong’s Hands:

That’s how you do it. The wrist generally sits in one place while the hand pivots on it. A LOT of the movement is coming from the wrist muscles, with a little help from the fingers too. Use the wrist, don’t limit it. Here’s some more:

You should get a custom stick with a mirrored layout.

Seth Killian is known for doing this, but other than him, I know of only one other person who plays like this. To each their own.

I apologize, but that’s what I meant by not engaging the rest of your hand other than your fingers. The wrist should generally be in one position, while the rest of your hand and fingers do the work. I’m sorry if it came across as something else. You’re right. But I’m pretty sure that video of Daigo’s hands isn’t him, if it is, it looks different from how it looks here.

As written right there, it could be interpreted to mean to use only your fingers and limit yourself from using other muscles. Just wanted to make it clear that using your wrist muscles is very important.

Yeah, I think we’re basically in agreement.

You might be right.

i have this same problem on pad, instead of trying to make your motions feel like a reverse (no pun intended), make them feel diffrent. you must be able to do some moves good on the p1 side though, right?

All through my earlier years as a pad player, whenever I picked up a pad I preferred to be on the 1p side as it made motions easier and more natural. As soon as I switched to stick I felt the 2p side was better, since your thumb backs up the stick. The 1p side is just a matter of learning how much to use your hand/fingers and how much to use your wrist etc. It will come, it’ll just take time.

I have the same problem with wavedashing with Mishima’s on P1 side, I have been practicing every day, you will realize some techniques what will work easier and make them work in your game, I was playing with a style for a long-time until I had a small adjustment with my technique and stood with it and you will get used to it.

i hold my stick btw index and pinky unlike u so maybe try different holds

can you move the stick with your tongue while pressing the buttons with your nose?

I want to thank everyone for all the feedback!

Here is the video link of my hands. I tried syncing with gameplay but its being all funky ill try to mash it together

Please check it out and lemme know what you think!

Looks good. You could definitely be gentler on it, you can get your inputs in that fast without beating on it that hard, BUT yeah your form looks good. Looks like your using your fingers and wrist muscles, and not your arm too much. This is definitely a good basis, now just keep playing and keep getting more comfortable with how it works best for you.

I see no major errors in the way you hold your stick, but your pinky looks like it’s in a rather uncomfortable position.

Merging this into the execution thread. these kind of posts don’t really need their own threads.

Fail the post aint going to be seen. Just gonna be mixed in. Well thanks anyways to the people that were trying to help me

Honestly, your problems aren’t remarkable. Just go practice.

This Is a really helpful newbie guide, and since the guide covers topics just in general not really specifics it can really be related to a wide variety of fighting games not really only Street Fighter and MVC. Really great advice.

I have another recommendation for the OP: play shmups. Download MAME and some shooting games like R-Type, Dodonpachi, or maybe Touhou if you’re into that. Being able to use an arcade stick to navigate through big waves of bullets in those games will definitely improve your stick execution.

Check out shmups.com for reviews on some classic games which you can play in MAME. Or if you have an Xbox 360 there are some great region free imports, and also Raiden IV, Raiden Fighters Aces, and (a different version of) Deathsmiles available domestically in US/Canada

Don’t have any questions, I’m just happy right now. I put fighting games to the side for a while, then came back and started putting in hours working on my execution. After a long time trying to figure out why I had such trouble playing on the p2 side by looking through the threads and working on it, I just randomly solved the issue by (unintentionally) loosening my grip in training mode lol. Now my consistency is equal on both sides, although I may have to alter inputs for combos so I can do them uniformly on both sides (I’m faster on the p1 side). I was expecting some profound answer to it or something, turns out it was something so simple. Still, I’m glad I kept at it. I wouldn’t have discovered the problem I had given up. Now I’m hyped to keep practicing.
