SRK Newbie Saikyo Dojo Arcade Stick FAQ (Read this before asking questions)

Wow, I think that’s AWESOME. Esp to get started. I got my SE on Amazon for 40 bucks, then modded it with 50 bucks in parts.

Used it for 4 months and absolutely will never ever go back to a controller, then just recently bought on sale a rnd2 TE for 99 bucks at gameshark. And now, I don’t want to use the SE anymore, lol (the size difference).

Found that my optimal config is the sanwa jlf joystick and seimitsu push buttons. The sanwa are just too squishy for my taste.

Anyway sorry for the rant, just wanted to share so that you purchase with end goal in mind. You cant go wrong with a 30 dollar stick, but once you upgrade the parts you are talking TE price territory. So it comes down to your “plans” for fightstick usage.

I really want a custom arcade stick but i dont know where to go! please help

Is it good to abuse a situation when your opponent is in a corner, or still play it safe?
And how do you get out of a situation when you in a corner.

Both questions do not have a simple answer, it depends on what characters are being used and how each of you are using them.

Being in the corner puts you or your opponent at a disadvantage because the cornered player lacks control in getting the space they want. It pays to be aggressive vs a cornered opponent. However, if one player anticipates what their opponent is going to do, there is a always a counter to it. Unless its me doing a perfect wake-up izuna on you when you dont have meter. Then you’re fucked!

I hope I’m not posting this in the wrong forum so here goes…

I just ordered a Madcatz round 2 TE and was wondering if the button layout is any different from the HRAP VX. By this I don’t mean where the start/select button or if it uses a 6 - 8 button layout. I am wondering if the angles of the buttons use a different layout e.g. straight 3 on 3 or a taito layout. I used to have a HRAP ex and loved the button layout. I’ve also played on a Madcatz SE and hated that button layout. So is the Madcatz rd 2 TE have more of an hrap ex layout or more of a madcatz SE layout?

The TE and the HRAP VX have the same Vewlix button layout, so, the TE has the same button layout as the SE.

HRAP EX has a different button layout than the TE.

Can we use the same stick on both PS3 & Xbox 360 Consoles ?

So I’ve had my HRAP EX for a week now and now I’m to the point where I can do a few combos in training mode. I still lose alot online, but I’ve just been practicing combos with all of my main characters, especially Sakura. I find that the charge characters I use (Dictator, Dee Jay) have had more success, while my command characters (Sakura, Rose, Juri) need a lot more work.

Im actually surprised at how good I’ve gotten in a small amount of practice time (about 1 hour a day for a week).

I’m interested, how long did it take you pad players to switch to an arcade stick? I’ve not even thought about switching back to my fightpad despite my lack of success right now.

For me at least, it took at least 2 weeks until I could get really comfortable with a stick. Roughly around 2 hours a day, every day.

I’ve been playing a lot on cabs when I was little, but I haven’t played on stick for a while until SFIV came out.

The switch from pad to stick isn’t really easy, especially for those who have been pad warriors for so long now. Never give up trying though, since it can help in the long run. Get comfortable with the JLF and the stock Hori buttons on the HRAP EX, and if you feel like getting something more stiff than that of the stock buttons or stick, you can always change them out for parts like Seimitsu LS-32 and Seimitsu buttons.

Been practicing a ton, but I’m still struggling like crazy. Much more comfy with the Joystick in general, tho. Not really sure what my main issue is, but I think playing while holding my Joystick in my lap is doing more harm than good for me. Has anyone else had this problem? It sounds silly. I also feel like I’m holding myself back, too. Like, I’m afraid to play all-out because I don’t want to cause unnecessary damage to the Joystick in the process.

Trying to get outta this mindset. Any tips? It’s still been a blast so far.

I’m not very comfortable playing on my lap either. I usually play with it on the floor. Just find what works for you.

Don’t worry about hurting the stick. Commercial grade arcade parts can handle a lot of abuse.

Good to see I’m not the only one who dislikes playing on my lap. Thought I was the only one. I’m thinking about placing it on top of something to see how that feels.

That’s refreshing to read about the Joystick. I need to just stop worrying about sabotaging my Joystick and simply play, while having fun in the process.

Thanks for the help, Starcade. I appreciate it!

i don’t like to play on my lap too, i like to place the stick on the floor or a table.

I have a friend that brings around a footstool with him to place his stick on. It’s one of those no slip deals, so the stick doesn’t move around on it. It’s a good idea I think as it is a consistent height for him to practice on and he can always use it in tourneys.

I should do that. I usually play with the stick on the floor, but when I go to arcade tourneys, the height is all different.

Oh and, you’re quite welcome.

can anyone explain why I try to do a qcf motion and i jump about 15 percent of the time. I have HRAP 3 sa

About 15% of the time, you mess up the input. Check out the execution guide for tips.

Nevermind figured it out.

Hey everybody i have a question. i havea ps2 official street fighter anniversary edition arcade stick. the one with all the street fighter characters on it.

i not only need a converter to convert it to the ps3 and the 360, you have al ink for that and i explored that.

but i already have an individual ps3 and 360 stick which is the same old arcade fight stick for each system. my question is

do these converters allow me to use a ps2 stick on a backwards compatible ps3 with ps2 games?

my ps3 madcatz stick simply does not work when i want to play ps2 fighters. if someone could help me out with that that would be cool.

Also two of the buttons are not working on it and i would like to know where i can buy buttons to replace it.

For the converters, yes they should allow you to play backwards compatible games. Be warned though that some models of the SF2 Anniversary stick do not make nice with converters. Check tech talk for more info.

As for the buttons, check the stick thread in tech talk for parts vendors.
