SRK most appealing character design

  1. What kind of character design do you like the most usually? (poll)
I picked typical hero, but after thinking about it tend to like the dark types of heroes like K’, Ragna, etc.

  2. Which game has for you the best female cast, and why?
Tekken 6 imo, so much variety and theyre all appealing in their own way.

  3. Which game has for you the best male cast, and why?
Jojo’s Bizarre Adventure, so many different types of characters

  4. Is the character design an important criteria for you when you decide to pick a game?
Pretty much, I was about to skip out on BlazBlue because I hated more than half the characters. None of them I really liked from day 1, they had to grow on me

I like metalheads characters like I No and Zabel. nuff said

Character design:
Anti-heroes and the chaotic (good or evil) types (Genjuro, Sol Badguy, Ragna, Bryan Fury, Iori). Anyone with a bit of an edge, basically. I like heroes, but not boring ones eg. Ryu’s boring, Haohmaru’s a bad ass. I also like quirky (not joke) characters like Yoshimitsu and Faust (chaotic and quirky = perfect!), but they’re hard to get right. I don’t like fat guys, giants (hate characters like KOF’s Raiden and Chang Koehan), or midgets (Choi Bounge), carbon copies of real life dudes (eg. Choi Bounge = Freddy Krueger, Muscle Power = Hulk Hogan) and I prefer casual or worn/torn costumes rather than fresh fighting gi. White Tee, blue jeans and sneakers are the most boring thing imaginable though, but wrestling costumes are probably the worst (that’s why I hate Raiden - fat giant wearing a wrestling outfit).

Best female cast:
Namco games, by far. The chicks are hot and there’s a good variety to choose from. My favourite type of female chick though is the hot one that looks like she can fuck you up (Baiken from Guilty Gear, Revy from Black Lagoon)

Best male cast:
Tekken. All of them look like fighters and they’ve got personality. (Kaz’s “Kisama ka?” is probably my favourite character intro ever)

Significance of design:
It has a slight effect, but I usually base my purchase decisions on reviews or past experience. Maybe if I don’t know anything about the game and I’m basing my decision on character profiles and screenshots then it would factor in. It does influence how much fun I have when playing a character though. eg. Yoshimitsu from Tekken is probably one of the most enjoyable characters me. However, give him a different personality/design and I’d never pick him.

  1. What kind of character design do you like the most usually? (poll)
Though I picked ‘ninja’ I actually tend to go for characters who are not human. Whether they be robots, catgirls, cartoonish neko parodies of other characters, blob monsters or animals. I find these characters are often more fun to play and watch than standard human characters. Other than that I like characters who aren’t ugly and who have attractive, complicataed playstyles that require some thought in order to use effectively.

  2. Which game has for you the best female cast, and why?
My favourite fighiting game females tend to be spread out over various series. One of my favourites of all time is Talim from Soul Calibur, but in recent games, I really like the female cast in Blazblue, especially Taokaka and Noel. I don’t really like heavilly sexuallised female characters like Ivy, but comical panty flashing is tolerable.

  3. Which game has for you the best male cast, and why?
Darkstalkers! I really like characters like Talbain, Rikuo and Jeda, but that may just be because they are non-humans.

  4. Is the character design an important criteria for you when you decide to pick a game?
Very much so. I have to look at the character while I’m playing them. If I don’t like the character or don’t find them appealing in action, then playing them just isn’t as rewarding for me. It’s this reason I never, ever pick Ryu in a Vs game if I can help it.

  • King
  1. Dudley. But outside of that, I’d say the typical hero type. I don’t know why, but they’re always so goddamn iconic. Especially Ryu and Terry.
  2. Street Fighter. Always has done an absolutely fantastic job of having ass kicking women.
  3. Street Fighter again, followed closely by Tekken and KoF. Why? Dudley.
  4. Absolutely. It’s why I prefer 3rd Strike despite its gameplay quirks.

[quote=I’ll have to go with Tekken, again, because it has men who look like men rather than androgynous freak shows. The most feminine-looking man in Tekken is Lee Chaolan, and that motherfucker pulls ass like a beast. Runner-up: Street Fighter. Again, the men are men, rather than whatever the fuck you’d call Ash Crimson.

Very. If I can’t find an aesthetically pleasing character, it’s hard for me to get into the game.[/quote]

EAGLE

C’mon son, fuck outta here with that shit.:nono:

I would go with the slut(Angel, I-No) and the goofball(Joe Higashi, Faust).

I normally like the badass characters (Akuma, Hakumen). But It doesn’t aways mean I will main them. But thats what I normally like

Is the character design an important criteria for you when you decide to pick a game?

Yes

More important than “most appealing” is the “least appealing”.

Think on that.

Is it, though? Reeally? 'Cause don’t get all riddles on us just for the sake of it. }:expressionless:

The kickass old, wise, “master” type person.

Kind of like Gouken, except Gouken is too ripped. Old dude should be frail and beat the shit shit out of people with the mastery of his fighting, not muscles.

The characters I like to play as run the full gamut so I don’t have a particular design I like the most.

I’d be interested to hear how you decided between “Slut” and “Fighting Gal” though. Mai definitely seems like a slut to me. Sakura is the biggest groupie I’ve heard of, traveling the world to follow Ryu, and groupies are by definition giant butt sluts.

Not to put Arc system employees on a pedestal of unapproachable godly men/women, but I find it hard to just believe that you are meeting with the fore mentioned. that said,

“The “Slut” (I-no, C-Viper, Shermie, Vice, Mature)”

I-no is best. :9

Though I like to believe that I just like good character designs, I have to admit that I have a soft spot for fighter gals.

2. Which game has for you the best female cast, and why?

GG. A girl who does mix-ups with her hair for the win?

3. Which game has for you the best male cast, and why?

HNK, what’s not to love? You have a kong fu jesus, a Bruce lee look-a-like that makes the real Bruce lee look like a girlie man for a hero, a flamboyantly gay guy who’s gar, and to top it all off, the men is so gar that their manliness transforms the only girl into a man.

**4. Is the character design an important criteria for you when you decide to pick a game? **

Definitely. Hell, one of the reasons why I can’t get serious with street fighter 4 is because the music blows and almost everyone looks like they’re abusing roids.

  1. What kind of character design do you like the most usually?

A. I voted other… To be perfectly honest, I don’t like any particular design the most. I tend to focus more on the move set of the character and how I can relate to it, more than what kind of person they are. Example, in 3S I like Ken and Chun, in GGXX I like Robo-Ky and Faust, in HnK I like Rei and Juda, in SBX I like Motachika and Yukimura, and so forth. As you can see, I like equally a large veriety of character designs, the typical hero, the sexy woman, the odd ball, etc. If I had to choose, I’d say I like the oddball the best, characters like Faust and Robo-Ky who are just plain wierd. However I’m not limited to that in any way, shape or form.

2 + 3. I don’t feel the need to answer these as character design really means nothing to me, so whether one male/female cast is better than the other is irrelivent.

  1. Is the character design an important criteria for you when you decide to pick a game?

A. Not in the slightest…

Why isn’t there an “evil bastard” option?

Every evil bastard is a dark emo at heart

agreed. there should be an anti-hero, badass, or villain category. Feng Wei is a good example.

  1. What kind of character design do you like the most usually? (poll)
Chose the hero as between them and the “crazy character(faust, voldo, ect)” are the characters i gravitate towards first(surprised these were left out).

  2. Which game has for you the best female cast, and why?
Tekken, they look legit. SF has a couple of good female characters but for the most part they are portrayed too goofy for my tastes.

  3. Which game has for you the best male cast, and why?
Street Fighter or Tekken, Manly men!!!

  4. Is the character design an important criteria for you when you decide to pick a game?
Yes, if a game has consistently interesting character designs it speaks volumes on the company that produced the game. Helps “pull you in” to the universe of the game as it were.

EDIT:
Recommend adding Villain and Crazy Character categories.

I was surprised to see Mai under fighting gal, I think she’s more of a slut type haha. I chose fighting, but slut is a close second for me.
