  1. dude/chick with weapons

Thanks for your input guys! Keep it coming!

For those of you who asked for other categories like ā€œDumb fucksā€ (Dan) and ā€œOdd oneā€, there are only 10 options to choose from when creating a poll, but there is an ā€œotherā€ option.

I am now sending a link to this thread to my friend at Arc System Works who can speak chyotto engrish. ^^
(It a ā€œsheā€, so be cool!)

EDIT: Before you ask for the ultimate SRK rule: …I’ll ask her for permission to post pics!

EDIT2: No love for the Fat fucks? ^^

wow the best game with female cast is DOA lol… althought the game itself is not that great.
i got hots for the fighting gal lolol. chun li , jam, sakura all that

Let’s see…

1. What kind of character design do you like the most usually? (poll)

Almost all of what’s on that poll, honestly.

2. Which game has for you the best female cast, and why?

King of Fighters, followed by Tekken. I guess it’s because women there have the style and the moves to match it.

3. Which game has for you the best male cast, and why?

Hokuto no Ken. Manliest men ever.

If licensed stuff doesn’t count, then I’d go for Street Fighter - has a nice variety of the male stereotypes.

4. Is the character design an important criteria for you when you decide to pick a game?

Not quite; but it’s good to have an interesting character with an equally interesting background and playstyle.

One option that’s missing is the ā€œdouchebagā€ character. The best example of a douchebag that I can recall would be Virtua Fighter’s Brad Burns. There are others, though.

I answered ā€œOtherā€ since, although I really don’t like admitting it, I tend to steer towards the Bruce Lee imitator. I don’t mean just looks however. I also talk about how their fighting style looks. For instance, Jacky Bryant from Virtua Fighter looks NOTHING like the man but his fighting style just screams ā€œHey, this is Jeet Kune Do. This is a style which is in essence free, where I can be like water, flowing to the opponent’s rhythm until I crash down upon them.ā€ This has been true for me for a LOT of games. Fei Long, Yang and Yun, Jacky Bryant, Litchi, Marshall Law, I picked all of them up without hesitation because they follow the principles (and sometimes, looks) of the legend himself.

This is actually really tough for me to answer. Certainly there are a lot of games which I find the female character designs appealing, but there aren’t many where I’d say ā€œHoly crap, her character design is wicked awesome!ā€ That said, for me it’s a straight up tie between Guilty Gear and The King of Fighters series. Sorry that I’m cheating a little in my answer here, but I like them both for different reasons.

GG introduced a TON of unique character designs from the female perspective. Millia, A.B.A., Dizzy, we don’t have characters like that showing up very often if ever in other fighting games. It’s not every day that you can fight as a chick that can okizeme you with her hair or as femme-Frankenstein with a giant key or as a BDSM angel chick who is actually quite innocent and with a very loveable personality.

KOF wasn’t quite as outlandishly unique as GG is, but it’s very hard to create female character designs which make the women in question look really cute/sexy/cold/whatever and still give off the air that they can kick your ass any day. Look at Leona, Vanessa, or Angel. They all look freaking GREAT but you can tell when they take up their fighting pose that you’re fighting a serious fighter, not just a random girl.

I’m definitely going to get a foul for this one, but JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure definitely had the best male cast of all time. Really though, be it manga, anime, movies, or video games, isn’t the philosophy of making good design universal? So why shouldn’t a fighting game based on a manga be a legitimate choice? JoJo’s had everything you could possibly want in a male cast. You’ve got badasses, badass grandpas, the cocky as hell antagonist, his serious faced pantsless right hand man, the obligatory dark skinned dude, a guy with crazy hair. Are they all outlandish? Definitely. Are they all likeable and unique? Absolutely. Each character feels like their own character if you know what I’m trying to get at. There isn’t a cookie cutter design anywhere. All you have is a bunch of handcrafted designs which are both impressive and all of them likeable.

It sure as hell is! Well, okay, I’ll say that if the gameplay were good enough, I’d be willing to play a fighting game whose cast is monochrome stick figures. But the character design just adds so much more depth to a fighting game it’s not even funny. I mean, Street Fighter II upon release was able to stand out amongst the likes of other fighting games (were there any others?) at the time due to its stunningly unique and appealing character design. Character design is how companies best distinguish their fighting game from another company’s since that’s the first thing the consumer sees. We don’t see the game engine or gameplay first, we see the characters. They may not be the end-all reason for picking up a fighting game, but they sure do factor in.

1. What kind of character design do you like the most usually? (poll)
Out of the options on the poll, probably the ā€œFighting Gal.ā€ Out of that there are only two characters (Chun Li and Jam) that I use. And the main guys too, because who hasn’t used a shoto at least once in his life?
I generally use whoever feels like a strong character to me, so gender or looks (to an extent) don’t matter too much; demeanor, animation and moveset decide who I choose. For example, Dudley throws roses at people, and that was cool enough to make me want to choose him.

2. Which game has for you the best female cast, and why?**
The King of Fighters series.

3. Which game has for you the best male cast, and why?
Hokuto no Ken, because everyone is manly.

4. Is the character design an important criteria for you when you decide to pick a game?
Not really, gameplay/mechanics/fun are more important. I think the only game I won’t play because the characters look completely retarded is Daemon Bride.

Noel from Blazblue. One of the most creative ā€˜design’ i’ve seen in a fighter

  1. What kind of character design do you like the most usually? (poll)

I had to go with the moe little girl, they aren’t the only kind I’m interested in but I tend to gravitate to them more often than not.

  1. Which game has for you the best female cast, and why?

Arcana Heart 2 since it pretty much covers every possible base and adds some pretty unique designs too. (Character’s riding giant robots, blobs and wolfs? A character who fights on roller skates? Yes please)

  1. Which game has for you the best male cast, and why?

Probably Tekken, it seems to also cover every possible base with so many different designs, from robots to wrestlers to kind of feminine guys to boxers, it has them all.

  1. Is the character design an important criteria for you when you decide to pick a game?

I would say yes, I tend to find it harder to pick a main and get into a game when I can’t find any characters that I am interested in but, that said the game still needs to have good gameplay to hold my attention.

That’s pretty cool. Good shit, man!

  1. What kind of character design do you like the most usually? (poll)
HARD hitting characters in terms of their move animations. Playing them needs to be satisfying. That usually means badass dudes but there are a couple exceptions (I dig Makoto).

  2. Which game has for you the best female cast, and why?
    I dunno, Tekken I guess.

  3. Which game has for you the best male cast, and why?
ST, the simplicity is timeless. I don’t care if they’re stereotypes, it’s just a very well defined cast.

  4. Is the character design an important criteria for you when you decide to pick a game?
Definitely, like lobelia said if I can’t find an aesthetically pleasing character it’s very hard to get into the game for me. That doesn’t really mean a cool costume or story or whatever though, I mean the animations. Like I said it needs to LOOK good.

I typically like the odd-balls. Blanka, Q, Arakune.

Regarding question #4, I think I need to add/clarify something. I think I don’t really care about character design at all in the end.
I love playing Viper for example yet I hate her character design.
Yun’s character design wasn’t much appealing to me at 1st, but the character grew up on me simply because I love his playstyle.
Same thing happened with Kyo in KOF, didn’t like him at 1st but ended up liking him after learning his move set/playstyle.
This happens to me a lot, lots of characters I play I really didn’t like their designs at 1st, K, Necro, Balrog, Daimon, Andy, Rufus, Fuerte just to list a few.

Unique looking character who’s top tier. More often then not female.

SFII series, because unlike most female character design for fighters since the late 90’s. SFII has something for us of the ā€œSir Mix-a-lotā€ persuation.

Early KoF and FF (might as well add AoF). Because the characters looked cool yet wore stuff that you could imagine wearing everyday.

Somewhat. Good character design that appeals to me helps in my desicion whether or not I’d buy a game.

I like the classy motherfuckers. Rugal, Kain, Dudley, etc.

**1. What kind of character design do you like the most usually? (poll)
**
The Boss of the game /bad guy like Dictator/Order Sol/Gen/Adon/Birdie or the less picked character in the cast.

**2. Which game has for you the best female cast, and why?
**
SamSho 2 : chamcham charlotte nakoruru, no stereotype of girls showing theirs boobs for nothing.

**3. Which game has for you the best male cast, and why? **

Blazblue CS, no stereotypical martial art fighter, and only one ā€œfreakā€ character.

and like someone else said HNK, manliness involved.

**4. Is the character design an important criteria for you when you decide to pick a game?
**
Yes it helps to get interested in the game, the character you main is like a extended part of you, gameplay helps to keep playing it.

Sorry for my engrish !
