Checking in and catching up.

On DG’s plan, I am hesitant as ever about role claims this early in-game, much less having the medic tied up for three days. DG always has some plan early game that seems to be his mode of getting info/introducing broken techs, so I kinda want to hear the thought process behind this one.

Chief, what’s your thought process this day phase? I’m surprised given how you’ve done before you’re not going no lynch Day 1. Not that I’m throwing accusations, I’m just wondering what you’re thinking thus far.

You’re right about that, I can’t defend myself given your criteria. But do you really wanna be the one to break the tie? We’ve both been Mafia once and have killed the other in it. Aside from that we have never lynched each other. If you’re willing to put that on the line then I can’t say much of anything to stop you, now can I?

You said you played mostly epicmafia before this, correct? I realize that night phase is done first in that game setting (which is interesting and gets rid of the whole “day 1 lynch” debate), but we have the pleasure of making our move first. I used to think that no lynching was a good idea too until I realized that we learn absolutely nothing from it. We’ve got to get the ball rolling. If we lynch day 1, the patterns that would otherwise form later into the game begin forming.

Yeah, night comes first on EM. It worked like that on a couple of forum games as well, though there had also been games starting during day phases. Even then, most would vie for a no lynch. The few times I have seen a successful day one lynch are few and far between, and may only force the target to roleclaim. Jumping the gun without prior knowledge is IMO one of the worst mistakes town can make.

A successful lynch isn’t determined only by the lynchee. Day 2 in the previous game is a perfect example of this. One civilian was lynched but that led us to multiple mafia.

Again, the point isn’t that the plan is complicated in and of itself. The point is that nothing else about how those roles (and frankly, anybody else) plays can hinder that plan, or we end up in a hole. Vynce and Synonym showed how to coordinate in the Vamps/Werewolves game, but many of the roles there were also lovers, and those two are excellent players. I just don’t trust that this plan will work out, even if it seems simple.

The deepest this hole can get (assuming a halfway competent Medic, which everyone here is capable of being) is losing <Beta> which, while isn’t good, isn’t terrible either. I’d rather lose a minor role trying to nab a Mafia than letting an opportunity go to waste because “someone might mess up”. If the Medic can’t figure out how to work this plan then we’re probably screwed anyway and I don’t see how a role besides <Icege> & <SWB> can interfere with this.

I see your points, but I’m still thinking critically about this. Especially about that idea that no other role can screw with it…

I like that subtle stab that my points haven’t been thought-out. Not. Aside from a possible enforce like you said, then I don’t see anything.

Moving on, who does everyone think <RadicalFuzz> targeted for the pre-game ability? Likely a power player, but that still leaves a large candidate pool. It’d be pretty ironic for <RadicalFuzz> to target RadicalFuzz with the ability, so I’m kind of hoping that’s what happened :lol:

Umm… you seem sensitive. Objectively, the group has pointed to at least two holes in your reasoning so far. It’s not a personal dig at you, it’s an attempt to reduce our risk and think through the plan before committing to it. I hope the teasing from last game didn’t get to you. I played way worse than you did, and in any case, nobody meant it. You’re a power player, and so I’m mindful that you might also be mafia and trying to steer the discussion. Hence my critical thinking instead of taking your words at face value.

In the spirit of moving on to the other guessing game… does it really matter? I’d’ve picked pretty much at random, but it actually wouldn’t have been somebody that I’d be nominating to the Godfather for a kill, since that person would be dead soon anyway and the power might be wasted.

-DG proposes plan
-PW says it’s risky
-You oppose it and all plans that require coordination between several players
-I point out both a pro and con of the plan
-You say that you don’t think the plan will work regardless of how simple it is
-MP clarifies that the enforcer role cannot prevent passive abilities like <Beta>
-Blindknagg says the only way it can backfire for sure is if the Mafia kills <Icege> but he is unsure on whether or not to go through with the plan
-You post the above

I see one person opposing a supporter of the plan with one good point that was revoked, not the group pointing to two holes in my reasoning. If there are multiple people (i.e. “group”) that have brought up holes in DG’s plan then please quote them. Until you do I’ll leave this little number here:

So much for moving on, eh? My points were that at one point (and that’s at one point, I understand you have now recanted) you implied that <Icege> had to RC for this to work. Later, you confidently asserted that there was no way this plan could be interfered with, and I offered a counter-argument that ended up wrong. (I’m explicitly admitting this. I was wrong, but I queried MP to make sure we got a final answer.) Point being, though, you didn’t know it was wrong either, and you’re just insisting you’re right rather than thinking critically about your own statements. Now, you’re voting to lynch me based on that interaction, and trying to ensure that the plan you’re so hellbent on following comes to fruition. Not really a strong civ play… civs, working together as a team, should be actively looking for holes in one another’s logic so we sew up any ways the mafia might exploit us.

I’m still undecided on whether or not we should follow the plan. But rather than bang my dick on the table and offer an immutable stance, I’m looking to moving the discussion forward, informing my fellow civs, and making an informed decision together.

I have been looking for holes pie. Your statement about the group finding holes in DG’s plan was false. You brought up points, yes, but from your tone you’re pushing for this plan to be discarded while your words say you’re undecided. I’m voting to lynch you at the moment because it doesn’t add up to me. I’m not hellbent on following the plan, which killing you wouldn’t affect, I’m hellbent on getting the kinks worked out in the event we do, and if we don’t we have loads more information than just saying “Eh, I dunno…” which is what a lot of the thread is doing right now.

That’s cute, it really is, but that clashes with what you’ve said. You want us to poke holes in one another’s logic but then start backpedaling when I say your logic hasn’t made sense thus far.

I agree he seems off, but I’m not ready to gun down a big name day 1, I’d rather wait for the mafia to handle that. If RF is clean, we’ll just be doing them a favor and taking out big targets for them. That makes me more likely to be the night kill. I like having RF around as a buffer, so to speak!

I’d rather lynch some of these few “checking in but not saying anything” people. At least Bloodymess came back to post even if he basically posted exactly what I said I was looking for in an opening post to jump on.

Shinkuu, manx, and to a lesser extent Augustus, OZ and BD all pulled the same thing. Why bother posting a “checking in?” It always seems mafia to make a post like that to me

It does seem a bit out of character for Augustus to act like a wallflower now after the last game. Same with BD and OZ.

It could be more out of courtesy so they don’t pull an Antonio. But god forbid we don’t scrape the bottom of the barrel to suspect people.

I kinda expected you to jump on my case immediately just because. I’m a little surprised.

Lynching RF day 1 is not optimal in my opinion but if Vynce locks in (he hasent yet and he wouldn’t lie to me) so will I. Mainly out of curiosity because I can’t shake this notion that RF actually got mafia after he wanted it sooo bad. His tune kind of changed before and after mafia roles went out.

The one person I want to hear from is DarkGeneral but apparently we aren’t on speaking terms. He might be able to conVynce me to vote elsewhere…

Pimp Willy wants to apply my logic from the DG game when I was mafia and keep power players alive. But since that info uses last game logic I’m going to completely ignore it. Pimp is still sqeaky clean.

Another con is that the Mafia knows who <Kaz> is, and that he would be dead come Day 4, so we’d gain very little information from any actions towards <Kaz>
Also, the plan isn’t dependent on <Icege> protecting <SWB> every night, but it’s dependent on <Icege> saying he will. If he plays his cards right he can protect others if he feels <Beta> isn’t going to be killed, and <Beta> when he feels the Mafia thinks he’ll protect others.

I always love seeing that dot at the top of someone’s paragraph. It implies (RE: confirms) they were typing something that was saved to draft, then deemed it too risky and deleted it by overwriting it with a saved dot draft, then forgot to delete it when they finally posted.

There’s always one person that has to ruin it for everyone.

If I hadn’t already locked in my vote for Fuzz today, I would’ve lynched you for merely suggesting this. It’s not even a hard call for a no-lynch, it’s a gentle suggestion that’s worded to avoid getting you in trouble.
