My first instinct is that if I were mayor, I’d lock myself away first night. I’d be the only person I could trust, so I’d want to protect myself. Later, I’d reason about likely targets and there are some combinations of roles, that if isolated, might be powerful. But I’m not saying any more on that point yet, until it becomes relevant.
There’s a lot of cruft in this thread already. It’s moving fast, so I understand people are confused. But please, read the rules. I’m all about posting half-baked ideas and theorizing about how to gain an advantage… I did it in my very first post. Anybody who makes braindead assertions and questions, though, is suspicious. Like @orochizoolander. I know that’s his shtick, to be Cheech and Chong and Snoop Dogg all rolled into one, but still.
And also, if you have a role, take the time to read all of the other cards and understand how your power might be misdirected, interact with other powers that activate at the same time, etc. If you have questions about those interactions, ask. For the noobs, make sure you understand the distinction between night and day phase, and how long certain powers last. If you’re afraid that a question about a power might give away some good tech you’re planning, just PM Pimp Willy directly.
No limit on how many people he can lock away, or not lock away. He can do the whole town, everybody but himself, himself, it’s his choice.
Town hall is a day abilitiy. Who is locked in/out is reflected in the writeup for the day phase, so going into night, everybody knows who is a valid choice for their ability.
Yes. We are keeping points very simple this game: 2 points if your faction wins. If you live, vote out mafia, use your role, it doesn’t matter. 2 Points for a win, even if you die, so long as your team wins.
Dracula and Lucian only have the Promote ability. Only the Converter grants access to the Bite ability.
First day vote is always the most random so might as well get this started before Zoolander do some edit shenanigans.

Why? Because his posts literally stands out, font-wise, since page 1. I know I know, weak argument bordering retardness (are we even allowed to say that since Vynce got in trouble with The $!@$!#@!@?) but shit man, its 4 pages already and still no stones thrown.
**
FIRST BLOOD!**
Ok, so the thread seems to be on somewhat of a break at the moment so I’ll use this time to convey some of my thoughts.
As of Day 1, there’s 6 Mafia. 6 Lovers (immune to becoming a convert until there significant other dies somehow).
That means there’s a 15 towns people pool of players that can be converted.
Each Mafia faction has a >60% chance to successfully convert a player on night 1.
I would assume Mafia will try to recruit early on since that percentage will decrease rapidly with each passing phase.
Once the percentage becomes unfavorable I suspect they would start promoting within the enlarged team.
At that point, Mafia is essentially primed for victory and our Doctor becomes extremely important.
I stated earlier that our reads need to be sharp. In my opinion we can’t afford to be wrong on lynches.
I’d suggest everyone come up with their own system to find mafia. Mafia-ish behavior is a valuable tell early and will be beneficial each phase because, the game is setup to throw off early reads meaning if someone gives you a Civ vibe early on, it may not be wise to write them off as suspect once the phase is over.
If I’m reading the rules and roles correctly, Mafia cannot kill at night. They can only convert and promote. (Convert might as well be killing but its probably way more beneficial than killing).
Van Hellsing and the Doctor are the ones with the ability to kill/assassinate at night. PLEASE BE CAREFUL! BOTH OF YOU!
Doctor should go after initiates and converts only.
Van Hellsing should avoid making any moves unless certain they found an initiate who is NOT Dracula or Lucian. In a way, you are a detective because if you do find Dracula or Lucian you’ll know when no one dies from your attempt.
Anyway, I feel like I’m rambling so I’ll stop here. Let’s be right on this first lynch guys.
They can’t bite anyone night 1. Monster leaders have to promote a converter first.
Where do you get the impression that monsters can’t kill at night? Referencing the monster power section of PW’s writeup:
“Assassin
Grants access to the Assassinate Skill. Assassinate may be used during the night phase to target one person; that person is killed. If Assassinate is used on the same target by multiple sources, that target instead escapes while the assassins are distracted fighting each other.”
Van Helsing and the monster factions all have access to the Assassinate skill (once promoted). There can be a lot of killing, and we won’t even know who did the killing after a while. Any night 1 assassination is due to Van Helsing.
"Werewolf And Vampire night actions
Vampires and Werewolves initiates start off with no powers, but may gain some as the game progresses. Dracula and Lucian grant the Promote ability at the start.
Spoiler:
These factions get multiple actions per night: 1 Major, and unlimited Minor. These abilities are only allowed if they have the corresponding role. If that role dies then the faction loses access to that ability.
Also, Chief: think of it this way. If VH is the only assassin, why did PW write up that part about multiple sources trying to assassinate the same target (in which case, the target gets away)?
No, I agree with you. Word choice is crucial but no one is perfect. I wanted to lay out my “thoughts”. Its good to know who’s paying attention and who’s lurking.
So for each faction there is the leader, Dracula or Lucian, and they can Promote a “roleless Vampire/Werewolf” into one of several roles, each with unique abilities, correct? Sorry if this is getting annoying I just want to be sure I understand properly.
Remember that the Vampires & Werewolves have no method of killing anyone the first night, only Van Helsing and the Jailer would be able to impact him negatively. By isolating himself he can’t be investigated by the Detective or protected by the Soldier. This is ignoring any mindgames stemming from “X has been placed inside Town Hall” since it’s a public announcement.
@ Chief the Doctor can’t “Cure” original Vampires & Werewolves, just converts. It happens in the last block of actions, so theoretically he could Cure someone the same night they’re bitten, but it’s way too risky for Night 1 IMO.
This game in particular though, the Mafia factions start with 6-21 and can theoretically turn 2 civilians into Mafia each night, increasing their numbers while decreasing ours. The Doctor’s Cure will kill a non-turned townie, so in that sense it’s similar to a Vigi role. Remember that if the Mafia bites a roled civilian then they obtain the ability to use that role. Luckily the “paired” roles can’t be bitten until the other is deceased.
And before anyone gets any funny ideas, my earlier response about not reporting if I was bitten does not reflect on my role and/or lack thereof, I just like playing as Mafia more.
