SRK Lounge: Word On The Street Is

I spoil for a fight whenever '80s kids go on about GI Joe, Ninja Turtles, and Transformers.

Compare that shit to Batman, Ren & Stimpy, and The Simpsons, and tell me the '90s didn’t make the '80s its bitch.

The genre is called, silly enough, the Harem genre.

I remember seeing that episode shortly after coming home from school :o

troof hurtz :coffee:

EXACTLY.

i dont believe youuuuu. i watched all of tenchi if it was shown on tv…well except tenchi in tokyo…good lord that was bad.

Downloaded the PlayStation All-Stars Beta.

Don’t waste your time.

I never watched Tenchi Muyo on Adult Swim, or anywhere else besides weekday afternoon Toonami. Shit blew my mind, yo

No wonder your tastes are fucked up
Your mom keeping you from watching the gold screwed you up, mang. 90s are gdlk as well, but 80s… oh, man, THE '80s

Hey Ducktales is from the 80’s so it wasn’t a complete wash.

besides cowboy bebop, the best animes i’ve seen were the read or die ovas and noir…sheeit noir was so fucking ill, yo

Noir had 'dat music, yo.

In the '80s, Raphael–the most disturbed and rough-around-the-edges character in the comics–became “cool but crude”.

In the '90s, Mr. Freeze was resurrected from the bottom of the barrel of one-note gag characters and was made into a sympathetic, tragic villain.

Face it. The pendulum of quality swung one way, then the other.

someday we will meet…and i will break your ankle in half…there wont be words exchanged or a warning. you will just know…it was from this moment that vengence was bound to occur.

&

you both have to realize something: the 80’s sucked. look deep into your heart. the truif will set u frieza.

now i was allowed to watch Disney stuff. Ducktales, Talespin, Rescue Rangers. but from 90-92 we didn’t really have a tv.

Outlaw Star, I really need to see the unedited version. It, along with Akira, was the anime that most inspired me to pursue art, albeit lackadaisically.

Black Hole Caster Shell FTMFW!

PAGUA SONFAAAAAA!!!

I also need to rewatch G Gundam. Fuck politicking and chartering treaties, just show resolution of conflict by kung fu fighting tournaments in Gundams and shonen ragey angst please!

BTW Million, do you by any chance know what happened to Monica Keena from Undeclared? She was a cutie.

I have a guilty pleasure for Tenchi. Was always a fan of Washu for some reason. I’ll admit it was trash, but it was one of the first anime I ever had seen, so it’s still memorable.

My tastes from a teen to now regarding anime evolved from borderline weeaboo to fuck everything but Cowboy Bebop (this being what I like to call my “wake up call”), ending with “I’m bettin’ this <insert new series here> will be shit, but I’ll try” with a 80/20 chance of turnin’ that shit off.

like anything in the 90’s and 2000’s…thank the 80’s pussy. i hate you. and i will snap your ankle like a toothpick. i will dangle your mangled calf in front of you and smile…calf agent will be no more.

Don’t worry, that’s the same reason dudes are sayin such and such anime is good anyway.

Anime is fucking stupid

Oh yes, I remember Monica Keena… and it was a shame “Undeclared” got canceled with the quickness. I don’t think it even lasted a full season. She seemed to disappear after that and perhaps 1 movie. I’ll have to check the net since I haven’t seen her in anything in the past several years.

*Nostalgia— even the smell of certain things like M&Ms brings back the '80s and early '90s for me… I had M&Ms today at work, and it brought me right back to those days. I remember that was part of the “movie theater smell” back then. Movie Theater Smell was a mixture of things; various candies and sodas, basically… mostly it was Coca-Cola or Pepsi. I should do that tomorrow… get a small bag of the M&Ms and a Pepsi, and let that be my time machine for a little while… it instantly transports me back to the days of getting to see Indiana Jones & the Temple of Doom on the big screen, or Transformers the Movie, The Goonies… Batman (1989; yep; the tail end of the 80s) those times when a decent arcade would be next door to the theater, or there would be arcade machines actually in the lobby area of the theater itself (they still have machines now, but of course nobody plays them anymore). Ohhh I could go on and on.

There was the background noise from the music of various games in any arcade at the time… sounds of Galaga, occasionally you hear Pacman chomping a ghost after getting a power pellet, that boxing game with the guy yelling “Body blow!”, Dig Dug getting caught by Fygar’s fire, the starting sounds of a race in Pole Position, that sound of the player advancing to the next event in Tron, the mush-mouth commentary from a Street Fighter machine.

yeah, i think our encounter would be more like this.
