I only played like the first two maps of that retarded ass game before switching to Excite Bike.
i mean dragon’s lair is legitimately playable, shit i’ve beaten the first boss in the few times i’ve played it. i know that sounds like a pathetic accomplishment but it was hard as fuck to even get there, much less fight the boss.
watching the super play of someone destroying the game blew my mind.

Just because you CAN play it doesn’t mean the game wasn’t designed terribly. People can play and beat Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde. Doesn’t make it not a horribly designed game. I myself like Zelda 2 and have beaten it, but I’ll be the first to admit the game fucking flawed to hell designwise and is not a good game in that respect.
The reality is that:
Dragon’s Lair was hard because it was bad.
Ghostbusters was hard because it was bad.
Ghosts & Goblins was hard because the developers wanted a challenging game.
Battletoads was hard because the developers were assholes.
Zelda 2? Flawed? Bullshit. Everything about that game is perfect, and furthermore, Error is one of the best, most fully-developed characters in video game history!

also, @Cynt - that’s fair. but i will not say zelda 2 is a bad game because it is the zelda i have played and enjoyed the most. sure some games contain shit they shouldn’t, check out double dragon for instance and that is the opening story lol.

I can see that as well, though I’m purely trying to be objective about it. Double Dragon’s intro being bad is subjective. Having actual mechanics flaws (Silver Surfer, Ghostbusters) or poor design choices (E.T., Jekyll & Hyde), though, are things that you can’t overlook when being objective on a game’s quality, hence why I separated my enjoyment of Zelda 2 from what I think of it. Zelda 2 is one of those acquired taste games. You’ll either see absolute shit, or you’ll see a charm in its flaws. The fact that the combat system is so radically different from… every other Zelda typically clouds people’s judgement on this, though.
