Oddly enough I’ve never read any of Heinlein’s work despite being a huge sci-fi nerd. I guess that’s one of the reasons I enjoyed the movie, I didn’t have any preconceived notions of what it should have been. I more want to see a faithful adaptation for the sake of variety.
Come to think of it, there are a lot of sci-fi classics I haven’t read. I kind of wish I had the time to change that. Oh well, wikipedia plot summaries will have to suffice for now.
If a woman has a child with a man knowing that he wants children and he promises to help her raise them then later down the line he leaves, that’s not her fault. I already said that. The problem is, you think this is what happens most of the time. You’d be hard pressed to find anyone who earnestly wanted kids only to simply dump. Relationships do change and evolve over time, but you seem to think if a man leaves that the circumstances were always his fault. Toxic women. In the event of a divorce, women get custody of the children a majority of the time. She can deny him visitation rights and often the courts will not stop her. She can move somewhere far with the children so the father cannot realistically see them. False allegations, the whole nine.
But I guess common sense is that a man was in a good relationship, wanted children ever so badly, and then just dumped them inexplicably. That’s what happens most of the time right? The usual scenario is that the woman absolutely had no choice? Your example outweighs all the women who chose to have a child without knowing who the father is, chose to have a child with someone they knew didn’t want children or wasn’t ready, older women who choose alternative methods of becoming pregnant like in vitro/sperm banks/etc. so they can raise a child by themselves, and so on. That’s just common sense.
No worries, there’s a bunch of sci-fi stuff I haven’t read either. I’m missing a lot of the classics but eh, its all good. Starship Troopers ain’t a hard read but man, that world is some crazy shit. Most of his works have some crazy shit going on; please ignore Soviet’s posts about it. It has less to do with people blowing up bugs and more to do with a society with a heavy military slant. The book reads like a mix between the movies Biloxi Blues and Full Metal Jacket.
Starship Troopers was a Republican war machine’s wet dream.

Well looks like the azn gf and I have broken up. It was a great relationship that had its highs and its lows, but I think its the right choice to walk away at this point. Only problem is… I don’t wanna go back to banging hookers or fat chicks off online dating anymore. The problem is a fear of rejection. Fatties and hookers are so easy, but they become a crutch. So I’m gonna try and stay strong. I’ve dated a skinny black chick and a skinny asian chick now, and there’s no going back. I can’t. I don’t wanna bang girls at bars or clubs because they are gutter trash, so I’m gonna see if I can’t find some volunteering and classes I can do where I can meet new people.

If you’ve read a couple of his book, you can tell that Heinlein was trolling a hell of a lot of people with his book. Mind you he did spend time in the Navy which is present in the book. But the he is still straight trolling with a lot of the ideas there.

It was good and bad, just like all relationships. I have learned not to discuss these things in online forums because that can lead to negative repercussions. Let’s just chalk it up to different values at the end of the day; she’s very straight edge, me not so much. My other friend whose with an asian girl kinda went through a similar situation to me. It was a great relationship though, learned a lot, and she was an overall positive influence on my life.
I’m a little sad, but I’ve been keeping myself distracted with hanging out with buddies, working out, and boxing classes. I’m ready to meet good quality chicks. I don’t want to resort to any gimmicky PUA bullshit though. PPPPPPPARTY TIME

It sounds interesting–and wow, it’s weird to be thinking about Eternal Champions again–but I can’t say that I like this idea, if only because it seems like the stamina gauge governs everything, which seems like it makes it more simple than even most of the early fighting games.
While I can understand why it’s there for the first couple of points, the third doesn’t seem that valid of a reason unless you’re just straight up taking out throws & overheads and even then…
