For example my kids are in basketball, soccer and gymnastics ( it’s raping my wallet BTW) my stance is that recess is not necessary. kids already spend most of the day outside after school anyway. On top of various sports program/ summer camps. Anything you can supposedly learn from recess is open to your child through various activities in or outside of school.

You don’t feel that time being wasted? Wasn’t recess like everyday too? Smh…just add up that time throughout a school year.

The point is, all of that shit is organized play. Kids need to be locked up in a room together and just bounce off of each other for a few good minutes. When you have an authority figure even present, things get all out of wack and prevent kids from the same sort of imaginative play that they are capable of on their own.

Any possible joke aside, overloading a children’s after school schedule leaves them little stuff for regular play and creates stressed out adults. There are parents that try to get their kids to do everything and the kids do all except be kids.
It may be working out for your kids but it isnt a good blanket solution. Especially when you have parents that cant afford having their wallets raped.

That’s the thing tho. It’s not overloading. You do activities your kids want to do…so the pressure is never there to begin with.
I’m not going to get into expenses BC that’s another discussion in itself.
Another thing. You guys make it seem like there’s a Ben Stein teacher in front of kids making them read from a textbook. It’s why I feel most if you dudes are just talking out of your ass. Your kid needs breaks to process everything. Yea, breaks are important and do happen. But full on naps? Can’t cosign that. Teaching is very hands on nowadays and the teachers keep it fun and make various games out if it.

@Starhammer Some charter schools have tests and some just have waiting lists. The school mine go to had tests BC since they learn Mandarin straight from the jump they need to make sure the kids are at a certain lvl prior to kindergarten

Lack of recess is why kids are doped up on meds to make them calm. No time to run around and burn off energy, socialize, get into trouble qith their peers, so they do it during class and disrupt the learning process, and then instead of fixing the problem properly the schools and teachers and doctors convince parents there is something wrong with their child and they need to buy a pez dispenser full of pills to fix them. Now we have a nation of full grown children who dont know how to socialize, dont know how to deal with their feelings being brused, and need “safe spaces” to protect their under developed personalities.
I’m not out of touch on this subject either, they first started implimenting this shit when i was in school, i watched it happen. Then I got to watch it get worse and worse every year with my siblings while they where in school. Recess is incredibly important to a childs growth for dozens of reasons and watching these schools turn a nation of children into drug addicts because they wont let them play at lunch time anymore is fucking revolting.
