SRK Lounge: The Protein Cannon edition

WTF did I just listen to?

I never thought it was possible to make a bit about Rush Limbaugh that wasn’t funny.

To each his own, he had me at “while other men pee on him”.

Nickleback is from Canada?

In light of that, you guys AT LEAST owe us free health care and 14 as the age of consent (for Stu - one love).

Yes, I know that your country has seen fit to up that to 16, but that’s still 1 to 2 better than here.

Also what is with all this talk about this beer thing?

Is it supposed to be like a poor attempt at Guinness?

Cockblocking prime ministre…

I like that one a lot too, though I’m kind of sick of it atm.

I had a bunch of friends that were really into Dominion and once I introduced them to Thunderstone they’ve pretty much all agreed that it’s strictly better. Dominion gets out of hand sometimes with the combo decks, but that rarely happens in Thunderstone. I’ve only managed to do it a couple times, and even then it was only because no one cut me off from it. Also, it has much better flavour. You into a dungeon and fight monsters and level up heroes and shit. In Dominion you…acquire land I guess? Heck even the card stock is much improved.

as you see it?

but yeah, I miss the 14 year old AoC law. Those were some great days to be in high school. Even 16 is nice (if you’re over 16, but still within a few years of them agewise, its legal too). And yeah, Nickleback is hated world wide. An army of apologizing Val’s in anti-Predator Batman suits couldn’t make up for that atrocity.

and no love for the MC Hammer search engine? For shame, SRK :frowning:

Storm was incredible.

If not the best, definitely my favorite fantasy novel of, like, ever, I guess.

I do thoroughly enjoy the fairy tale style of fantasy that Jordan wove, too - particularly books 3-7, but that’s a whole different beast than Martin’s stuff… a tame beast, at that.

I normally love our stylish hat, but Nickleback seriously ought to have caused you guys to have been sanctioned by the U.N.

Nickelback isn’t hated worldwide. They’re pretty popular in Canada. Well, the shitty redneck part of Canada that is. But it follows that someone has to like them for the records to be selling as well as they do.

At least we have Rush. If it wasn’t for them I’d probably renounce all of Canadian music.

Good luck with feast. I agree that Dance is better.

The only people I know of who actually think Nickelback is good are middle-aged butt rockers who are convinced that music stopped improving in 1988 and think of Nickelback as the most acceptable thing that’s come out since.

I’ll admit, I did chuckle a bit when he said that cause it kinda true, but he should of stopped the joke there and when on to cover some of the actual politcal nonsense Limbaugh spews from his mouth. Instead, he rode it for a whole 2 minutes.

That would be like me doing a bit about Gadhafi and taking about how big his nose is for the whole segment.

my faith in your taste is never disappointed

that said, its sad that you’ve already passed the zenith of the series. it just kinda falls apart after this in my opinion.

lol I misread Coors Light as Coons Light.

I am so racist.

I think the main thing when you consider the first three book is that GRRM was basically setting up pieces while knocking some down. By the end of Storm of Swords he knocks down a LOT of pieces, and to ignore the time to set up other important characters would be foolish. If he manages to live to the series’ completion I’ll be interested to see how people look back upon Feast for Crows/Dance with Dragons because they seem like incredibly important stepping stones to the conclusion.

Honestly, how do you NOT give the reader some time to breathe after Storm of Swords? And for all the crap that Feast gets, I really like the Martells.

sorry, bro. it’s not funny to me. i say more perverted stuff than that on this site. Hick’s head was too far up his own ass to be funny, but that’s not to say he didn’t say some really moving shit.

There was supposed to be a five-year time jump after Swords, but he said that in trying to write it didn’t work.

It’s not just that, though.

He really well and truly broken the established format of the series by including all of those addtion, sometimes one-off POVs.

After Storm, the series lacks the cohesiveness of the earlier titles.

And lactating D cup titties getting sucked by a dude with even bigger ones, is fan service of the worst kind.

Yes, I implicitly mean the worst kind of fan, as well.

I could almost forgive him going into extensive detail on Dany’s mooning over Purple Beard Dude, if it weren’t for the fact that: A. she is a goddamned queen, and shouldn’t be acting like stupid modern teen girl over a boy, and B. see A.

The fact that she went completely spineless over some ambiguous bones, after razing pretty much half of the old world, is contrived as well.

And don’t get me started on her pussy-footing about finding who is actually trying to kill her, even as the mantra, [details=Spoiler]this isn’t a spoiler if he’s read through book 2, even[/details]Beware the perfumed seneschal, is steadily repeating ***in her own gaddam mind, ***largely due to fact that Martin needs to stall her inevitable return to Westeros.

Yeah I think he mentioned how he had to overuse flash backs.

CLU 2: I think that the one and two-off POV sequences were a demon wrought by necessity. His world is massive, and he either had to settle for only telling about 10% of what was actually happening in the world or divide up his attention a little bit to give the reader a fuller grasp of the realm.

The very nature of the story was bound to hit some annoyances. How big can you make a story before it starts to over indulge itself? If I have one complaint with GRRM it’s that he could literally write himself into his own grave while never actually finding an ending point.

P.S. And while the limited POV segments can get a little testy, I really do think that the Martell/Greyjoy POV chapters were some of the best written for both being incredibly fresh and showing the reader just how fucked up/glamorous those life styles are. Would you have rather had full blown segments with Arianne/Damphair/Victarion/Doran also thrown in? The books would never get finished.

while agree that Storm of Swords needs to give the reader a little bit of time to recover but my GOD feast seems to drag so far, granted im only like a 1/3rd of the way through though. Just looking at who’s perspectives we get in Dance of Dragons is making me antsy though :S.

I think that an Arianne POV could have worked quite well for the entire Dorne segment.

And Asha might have been enough for the Ironborn part - if not, then toss in the Damphair or Victarion, not both.
