He stands there horrified as his dead wife defends the monster he intended to destroy. “Ah yes, the noble young hero… eager to slay the monster and save the village… but can you really kill your wife a second time to do it?..and what of your child that went missing a few months ago…well well there she is! What will the resourceful, well-respected and righteous hero do in this situation? Oh this should be quite a show, whatever happens…quite a show indeed…” Heh, heh… I would make such a fantastic super-villain.

I mentioned in the last thread that there was some input lag while using Windows 7. After doing some moderate investigoogling, this seems to be an issue with vsync, which Win7 uses for everything in the standard Aero layout (the one where with all of the pretty semitransparent borders). This can be addressed a number of ways, the simplest being to go into the display settings and change your layout to Windows 7 Basic, or another non-Aero layout. I tried High Contrast Black and things also improved, but for some reason Windows Classic felt like it had a bit more lag than either of those two. I also tried changing the color from 32-bit to 16-bit (under monitor settings), and there seemed to be another improvement. However, it was less noticeable than just switching to a non-Aero layout, so it’s hard to be as sure.
In my case because I’m using a windowed application (GGPO/FBA) I went into the graphical properties menus. But if you’re running a fullscreen application of whatever game you’re playing, you can just go into the options menu and turn off vsync. I tried it with the PC version of SSF4:AE, and the difference was very noticeable.
When you turn off vsync the game will be slightly less pretty, but it wasn’t a big deal in SSF4:AE, when compared to some faster-paced FBA games.

Much rather watch a match (I’ll even watch sc2 even though I don’t play at all) with commentary on it. Especially when it explains why the players do what they do. For fighting games or most pc games.

I just don’t find sports entertaining really. I just recently got more into them from listening to sports talk radio at work. I don’t ever watch them on tv but I listen to sports radio all day at work.
Might be why I prefer to watch games with commentary over just the replay or spectating the game by itself.
i can’t shit on e-sports bcuz i’ve definitely killed a few hours watching starcraft on TV here since it’s one of the few things that i can understand on K-TV. not to mention i used to regularly watch warcraft 3 replays and considered myself a “fan” of moon (wc3 player).
it’s funny bcuz now that sc2 is out, but there’s contract disputes or something with blizzard so ongame.net doesn’t show sc2 games (or if they do, not often) they show random starcraft tourneys from like 2001-03.
I dig competitive fighting game spectatin’. I understand the appeal and have enough knowledge of how it works to enjoy it, as opposed to real sports, which is a bunch of grab-ass half the time anyway.
I usually watch VODS on YouTube on my phone at work. Mainly dota2 matches to help me get back into the game so I don’t feed. It really helped me jump back into dota after being removed from it for line 2 years.
A few of my other friends who got into the beta too were somewhat lost because they just jumped in without watching any videos or anything. I’ll watch some sc2 sometimes. Don’t play it but I know enough so I can follow what’s going on. And with good commentary you don’t even need to have previous knowledge (or at least in depth) to know what’s going on if they explain it well enough.
Tobi wan does some good commentary for dota2. Purge does great commentary too.
