SRK Lounge: Ronin was here

Saying a slur and using it directly at someone for a negatory or abusive effect are DIFFERENT. What is it you aren’t understanding? The problem with this and why it wouldn’t hold up in court is that it uses the person’s feelings as the basis for its ruling. So if you said someone is cheap and I find that racially offensive, you could be expelled from campus. See the problem?

What if they’re Jewish?

Well, now you’re sorry.

Every time I see him ask to have the thread closed (not closed, deleted! this last time) I laugh for a solid 15 minutes.

LOL. Nice one. Trying to imply that someone is signing away their right to free speech instead of agreeing to follow rules that prohibit specific actions that may be considered detrimental to other students’ ability to be comfortable in their own attempt to attend the university, or possibly illegal. That guy who made a poop swastika should not be punished for trying to intimidate other students or at the very least vandalism. He’s expressing his free speech. If he can’t express his racism with poo, then no one can express themselves with poo.

That agreeing to not be a complete asshole to other students is the same as agreeing to not have views about them or express them in a way that would be considered proper. You almost had me there.

You do remember the Terms of Service you agreed to when you created your account on this forum, right? Especially the portions that dealt with how to conduct yourself, or that acting specific ways could get you banned? Were you claiming that Wiz was violating your free speech rights then? Care to do it now? Same thing, isn’t it?

This all started from maxx saying people shouldn’t fear hearing racial slurs against them on campus.
You said "Meh, I support pushing your freedom of speech."
I posted a link showing racial harassment is not allowed.
You move the goalposts and go into “You are cheap” could offend SOMEONE.

Stop straying the course. Racial slurs are not allowed.

I wasn’t proving or disproving anything; Just doing the Google search for your lazy ass.

I still laugh at how you gringos defend hate speeches because “freedum of spuch” hurr durr.

The only gringo defending it is a Puerto Rican.

Saying a slur and directing said slur to someone are different. If I said it in a paper or just in talking with friends, it’s protected right in dat constitution no matter if you are made uncomfortable by it or not. You have rights, too, and I suggest you exercise them. Write an article, bring attention to it, or gasp hold a debate with said offender and try to show him why it is not acceptable. Campuses used to be this way but with the way kids are coddled these days they play hard and fast with legalese to implement rules that may not hold up in court if ever brought there.

From what I understand about the poop swastika, it was made to intimidate the hall residence which, if I understand it, are mainly black. That wouldn’t even be protected under the First Amendment since it was a deliberate act of aggression so I don’t know why you’re using that example.

Just don’t come around talking that Mexican on my block "esse"

im so proud of that derailment lol

If you weren’t going to help, why did you bother posting?

I will defend hate speech as freedom of speech, because it is. You wanna be a racist and promote your racism in proper channels, go ahead, that’s your right, and it should always be a right.

Just don’t be an asshole about it and use poo to smear brand-name clothing logos on Epidemic’s house.

He started saying racial slurs shouldn’t be thrown at students on campus. That I agree with. The rest of his post goes on to say slurs shouldn’t be said on campus at all. That I do not agree with.

I’m not saying I agree with the slurs, but I believe students should be adults and hash out why it isn’t appropriate to say or to think that way. You know, treating these kids like the adults they are building up to become.

don’t speak to her like that…

You have a case of feels, Lancelot?

So like me and my 2 friends are walking down a sidewalk and I say “Man that chink really pissed me off last night” and someone over hears it. And they tattletale on me.

Correct, I shouldn’t get in trouble.

But his post was about students afraid to go to certain parts of campus because they will have slurs hurled at them. This is why we were having an argument.

Similar scenarios have happened, but the black students weren’t afraid to go to those places. It just happened. They have complained about overhearing slurs and have complained about having them yelled nastily at them. I wouldn’t defend violence against the former but in the latter they picked the fight so they get what they get.
