There will always be a huge need for oil. Fuel, o-rings, lubricants, plastics, and etc… We are a society that derives from all of those petroleum products.
There is always waste. It’s just a matter of how you manage it. France uses lots of nuclear power which produces waste, but they’re better at managing it. I don’t think there are any real, miracle solutions. It’s just a matter of what resources are available and how smart you are about managing it.
