SRK Lounge Population Control Edition mk 2

I didn’t even have to click it, lol.

I remember when it was first uploaded.

I always said Ken was high tier, too.

People slept on Ken until damned near the end of that game’s life.

He really* was *just a hair below the top four, if not right there with them, really.

So was Shin, for that matter.

Poor Souther.

As I see it.

Hey, Mr. Jennings is no longer getting totally railed by the computer on Jeopardy.

Wonder how long this will last.

Lol at Watson being such an avaricious bastard. Hey, it got $77,000 total out of the whole deal and $1,000,000 for charity. So I guess everyone wins…

Again, you’re complaining about something that always happens with attempts at game balancing. As long as what “broken shizz” is inevitably discovered after the fix(es), I’m sure we can agree that it’s a net gain as long as it isn’t as egregiously conspicuous, especially given that most of these “easy mode” accusations are about accessibility to things.

I don’t recall any such things. Not that they couldn’t have possibly occurred–I just don’t recall them.

What the hell kind of utter snobbery is calling something a “faux-innovation”? Seriously, what do you mean by that? Innovation is innovation. Whether something is a good thing or a bad thing is independent from that unless it’s straight-out plagiarism.

As for “dumbed down gameplay”, dumbed down because of damage I’m assuming would be the key culprit? Of course, your next complaint/comparison point doesn’t exactly instill me with hope that that’s all you meant…

Oh please. That’s was in MvC2 as well and I don’t even see why that’s a decidedly a bad thing given that the versus games haven’t ever been about footsies.

This isn’t comparable to Brawl’s “tap A rapidly for the only real combo your character might have” and even if it was…

Again, while I get what you and sonicabid are talking about, this is yet another lose-lose situation for Capcom: people either complain about the game being too offensive due to damage or being too defensive due to pushblock (that doesn’t even work on assists anymore!).

throws up hands

I’m not seeing any similarities outside of your report of his disjointed launcher, so now you’re really just reaching.

You could have fooled me. I can understand being disappointed and saying it has (perhaps obvious) problems, but declaring it DOA already and saying definitively that it can be fixed because it’s a leaky Hoover Dam is just “bitchmade” and such, to borrow a word.

Agreed, but whether that simplification is bad (or, rather, HAS to be bad given that’s how people seem to talk about it) is another topic and a more important one I’d think than “hey, I’ll constantly bitch about something I’m not going to try to change even though Capcom obviously reads these boards. Awesome!”

True. As I’ve said before, I don’t understand why MvC2 has to die so that MvC3 can live and vice versa.

That’s just the thing, though: no one was asking you that or even has declared the game as such, just that they’re having fun at present.

I sure as hell haven’t asked you or declared the game as such and it just makes you look extremely bitter about it like how Tech Romancer unfortunately was about Oni and E. Ryu in SSF4 AE.

If it’s so doomed to you, then please stop bringing it up and let it die the death it deserves (like Brawl). Because otherwise you’re not convincing people to give it up, but quite the opposite, especially since it’s too early to let the game speak for itself one way or the other.

A.

B. AFAIK there aren’t any infinites in MvC3 which are actual infinites. The X-23 combo requires X-Factor (level 2 or level 3), and from what I hear the opponent has to be standing for it to work.

But with regards to the environment of the game, it really can’t be called overpowered until we learn how good X-23 is. Just as removing Thanos’ or Anakaris’ infinites would be of no real benefit to the game because you’re taking tools away from characters who are limited, X-23’s combo is ultimately indicative of very little.

Furthermore, because of the damage that everyone is complaining about, infinites and 100% combos mean less than they used to, because so many characters can do big damage in one stroke.

I’m not especially in love with the game, but considering that there have been zero legit tournaments for the game, I don’t think this can really be said.

Penny arcade at least is consistent in updating these days that I enjoy once in a while. Nedroid Picture Diary is now one of my faves. It’s hilarious in it’s own simplicity.

I’m a fan of Our Valued Customers. Also Oglaf, but it’s often profoundly NSFW, so I won’t link it here.

calm down there almighty mod.

you never gave anyone the chance to…some people might want to. you always close every thread wit a vid…some i understand but even when its clearly a discussion type thread and not a “oh look at this cool vid i found.”

Without getting into specifics, I think it’s kinda silly to judge how tournament viable a game is out in the first week of its release.

Hell, in SF4 week 1 Zangief was S tier and Sagat was hanging out around mid.

I know I probably shouldn’t open this can of worms, but I don’t understand how you can hate women and worship them at the same time.

What’s the difference between a pussy and a cunt?

Million’s Creed

[details=Spoiler]A pussy is soft, warm, option-select fuzzy, lovable.

A cunt is the rest of the woman.[/details]

As Million sees it.

I was waiting on The Damned to actually post some infinite from MVC2, but yeah that Thanos one is lol. It can be mashed out of though, not hard too if you’re used to mashing out of HG xx Tempest.

I’m planning on maining X-23, so specifications of the “semi-inf” is something I keen on. If anything it opens up more team ideas and setups… until patching.

Valid point, I still find the existence of such an easily executed sequence a bit disconcerting to say the least.

I guess we’ll have to wait and see. I can’t say the game has shown me any reason to doubt my assertions, especially playing it first hand. However, I do admit I’m being far from objective, since there is some emotional investment in its predecessors. Emphatically, I see the same latent chagrin is held by many of the top players; which is amusing, because it’s obvious why they’re trying to keep tight-lipped. [/Morton’s]

We can agree that fighters are nigh impossible to balance, but when the balancing problem is seeded into the fabric of the core gameplay and not just the characters, it becomes an even greater task to achieve. Just ask Gamefreak and their imbalanced typings and moves that tattered the 4th gen.

Dedede Chaingrab (knew I should’ve use a parentheses for this mention too) and the Falco Laser OTG semi-infinite. They were on the boards by day 2.

The term “innovation” has a positive connotation regardless of objective definition. X-Factor is a newly added feature which I don’t consider positive or all that creative. It’s as simple as that.

Both possess high vitality (weight in SS terms), high priority, and high damage output. (and not that it matters- super armor on their attacks)

Simple doesn’t always mean bad, but if a series started with a fairly logical set of guidelines and the next game regresses them, it’s hard for me to look at it as a positive. Especially when some of the changes were grossly unnecessary.

I don’t see why I can’t mention my opinion on the matter, as well as analyze the shape of the currently evolving game as I see it? I’m not criticizing people’s enjoyment of the game, just the fact that the game has clear issues. If my assertions are erroneous, it will come to light in months time. If that does happen I’ll gladly recant that my observations were misguided. It’s just like how you constantly humor us with your indignant observations of mankind. I’m am MVC3’s Damned. :wonder:

I’m still trying to find much meat in this game to quell me, so don’t think I’ve just been arm-chairing MVC3. I want to be wrong.

P.S., How the hell do you quote this much? Seriously, it’s quite taxing.

Damn, such a rift in the fightan community.

Just like when CoD: Black OPS came out

Re: fighting game community - I think people just forgot. There was massive bitching for pretty much every game ever released. Then a few years pass and people get tired of bitching, and the only people left playing are the ones who’ve come to terms with the game and like it for what it is.

Honestly, I didn’t hear any major bitching about fighters on SRK until CFJ and SNK vs Capcom were released. And both of their criticisms were well-deserved and equally quick. The only posters I see criticizing older fighters are newb posters or ultra-traditional fighting game players.

Capcom Fighting Jam is pretty fun though, I thought the concept was neat.

lol the weather dominator episode of gi joe is on…i dunno whats worse…roadblock singing the theme song…or watching a ninja and a native american ice skating for pieces of a device that can destroy the world.

Bitching about CvS2 was huuuuuuuuge. We joke about crouch fierce now but that was a major issue back in the day. And then all the people who thought that Rock’s Level 3 super was broken. All sorts of stuff.

Back then Arc Sys had GGXX in the arcades, and since they were releasing updates in the form of #R/%^_~AC, people thought that Capcom could surely do the same. CvS2 threads had pages upon pages of wishlists that would make the SF4 threads blush. Capcom did nothing and the talk died down. Then roll-cancelling broke, and the talk of patches/revisions flared up again, but again Capcom did nothing and people started to realize that we weren’t getting anything new, live with what you got.

CvS1 also got hated on too. Nakoruru is broken, why doesn’t EX Balrog know the meaning of recovery, why doesn’t Guile know the meaning of recovery/have such godlike Flash Kicks, hate the 4-button layout, why did SNK characters get nerfed so hard, I hate team 4 Little Girls, Blanka throw into Level 2/3 Super is cheap, sweep into Shinshoryuken is retarded, Ken’s Level 1 Shoryureppa juggles are retarded, etc.

The SF3 series was hated on hard right out of the gates. There were fans of course but the bitching and the dislike for that entire series was way stronger. Then 3S went through its revival around 2004 and attracted new fans as well. But even before SF4, people were coming up with ideas such as using the system direction, or flat-out banning Yun/Chun/Ken in tournaments to try and make the scene less stale. Then SF4 hit, and the 3S fanbase polarized so hard that if you try to say anything even remotely negative about the game, one of the fanboys will magically materialize to tell you how perfect the game is.

The Alpha series as well. A1 people hated the chains. A2 people hated the godlike Alpha Counters, Rose’s c.strong (arguably better than CvS2 Sagat c.fierce!), Valle CC, etc. A3…starting the round with full meter, air recovery, V-ISM as a whole, unblockable, wonky hitboxes…

Enlarged Image - What Would Tyler Durden Do

I just found a picture of Manx. To the right with the jackets, glasses, and sweet boots.

Dem Feet.

Man, nobody I knew liked SF3 (first version) except for me. It wasn’t perfect, but it was pretty slick.

Az - in short, regardless of the scene, bitching has been there…

There was also a period post-SvC where there were no new games coming out. Before then they’d been rolling out every year or even every few months…SF3 to MSF to MvC to 2I to A3 to 3S MvC2 to CvS1 (not in that exact order, but you get what I’m saying), etc. Then things started drying up after CvS2. We got SvC:Chaos which was an epic disappointment (mainly to to the SNK fanboys who insisted that it’d be so much better than the Capcom crossover games, and CFJ/CFE which was a fairly…modest effort, in terms of presentation. It wasn’t really that long ago when there were no new Capcom Fighters coming out at all, and so criticism died down. All of the criticism was due to the competitive marketplace- if you didn’t like CvS2 there was still some people playing A3, if you didn’t like A3 there was ST, if you didn’t like ST then MvC2 was always around, etc.

Part of SF4’s positive reception was due to desperation. So what people are seeing now is really the resumption of how things used to be, to some degree.

Speaking of Vanessa Hudgens (I'm pretty sure that's her, I don't really keep up), I've been seeing commercials for "Beastly." HOLY SHIT that movie looks terrible. The commercials are so bad that it actually makes me angry.
