You can sum up Season 3 of DBZ with one phrase:
KRILLIN’S IN DA HOUSE!

hahahahahahah damn…yo moms is jokes.
Mondo cool.
Ugh… that voice they used for Kaio. It was like they numbed his entire face with novocaine before every recording session.
I loved that phone call by the voice actor of Krillin doing the mondo stuff when I was younger.
Here it is

Gawd. At least he had some self-awareness about how awful that shit was.
It’s weird. FUNimation is actually a legit company now, and it’s all thanks to their work on Dragon Ball Z–the shittiest thing they ever did.
I’ve heard that they made a marginal improvement throughout the last several seasons of the show, but I never could bring myself to watch them. I’m not even that big a fan of the franchise after the first bit with Vegeta and Nappa. The stuff I like about it pretty much peters out entirely, once Freeza is dead. There is zero incentive to check out any iteration of the stuff after that if it isn’t handled with absolute perfection.
when they fucked the voices in the middle of the namek saga, I was pissed. Piccolo (Scott McNeil ftw!) and Vegeta (forgot the dope va’s name) went from sounding like badasses to dumb asses.
Brian Drummond. He wasn’t really a Vegeta-type voice, but he was a lot of fun in an unhinged Nicolas Cage kind of way.
Ryo Horikawa, Vegeta’s original VA, was awesome. He could do the crazy stuff when he had to, but he also had a serious, threatening vibe going on. It also made it funnier whenever Vegeta started to get shat on as a character.
I agree. I stopped watching the show once frieza got Merc’d. for me, dbz consists of the first two seasons, dead zone, the tree of might, and the world’s strongest movies, dubbed by the Ocean group.
yeah to watch dbz in english means not having freeza’s japanese voice actor aka the best shit ever. same with piccolo, japanese or bust.
I remember the pain of rewatching the fight between Raditz vs Goku/Piccolo. I even remember when they made it deep into the things going down on Namek and then next day… Raditz. Twas a cruel burn like no other.
And I know she’s gotten some backlash, but only Masako Nozawa sounds right as Goku. I think because the American version skips straight to his adulthood, people don’t understand why he sounds like a child. But he is a child, and always has been.
Plus, nobody does battle screams like her. The American guy who does Goku just sounds like he’s struggling to pinch a loaf.
i have no issues with american dub or even random ass lines…my thing is the music being replaced by glorified midi files…and fuckin up this scene! “I draw the line here”-picard voice

I don’t know man. That Vegeta Super Saiyan Theme theme is pretty rockin’.
This is my I’m about the blow a load theme

Drummond, I see, which makes the other va that Sabat cat. I’ve seen some of the original jap dbz’s, but I’m partial to the first english dub, since that’s the one I saw first (kcal 9 saturday mornings). There’s a video on youtube somewhere comparing the two va’s above during the part of a namek ep where Vegeta figures out that Gohan and Krillin tricked him, and he goes nuts. Drummond’s sounds SO much better. Also, what’s with the dialogue changes and the modern hard rock during the battles now? My brother was watching that Kai bs one day and I caught that shit. Let me find out Metallica’s on the DBZ soundtrack, lol.
American Va’s say lines most of the times. Jap Va’s actually put the acting in Voice Acting. Probably because they have integrity and get more cash or better opportunities with their work.
Dragon Ball Kai actually has the original music sans the translated opening ala INDESTRUCTABLE!!!
My friend and I were talking about that the other day: how shitty and hard it was to find anime videos pre-internet. Some dubs I can stand but damn the difference in image quality they’re getting.
Doctors have jokes.
I think Christopher Sabat ended up voicing over 30 characters, major and minor, during his time on the show. Most of them sounded kind of like Louis Armstrong.
i say if your working 4 hours here and there and can make a living off of it…these voice actors are hella caking. the guy who does rufus told me when i interviewed him 2 weeks ago how he just does 4 hour sessions usually just a couple times a week maybe twice a day.
…this nigga is a glorfied part timer.
But is he able to pay his bills or is he eating ramen to survive. I’ve always wondered how many voice actors do financially

sounds like he’s caking, hes got a kid and wife. he is currently writing a shitty vamp movie in his spare time that hes working to get on scifi channel, also has a cartoon coming out on nickolodeon next year thats gonna be big. i assume its gonna be some kind of avatar style show from the sounds of it…but its not that spin off. but nick is pullin all the stops out for promotion soon. he made it sound like he has a really good life doin voice acting.
maybe hes a special case…he was talking about how he landed into the job because his teacher was in the buisness and helped him alot in the beginning. but he kept making connections and then more connections and the jobs just kept coming.
