I don’t have any offhand, but if you can find any archived online articles from Guitar World that feature lessons by Zakk Wylde, he’s a real nut about alternate picking. He has some good stuff to say. I also remember a couple of good lessons from Tom Morello.
just got the poor mans TS9 (Bad Monkey) for 20 bucks, if it sucks eh, 20 bucks.
Looking for just a simple booster, and with the money I saved I’m getting a MXR 10 band.
Rawk.
I suck at fingerpicking. But I suck much less at fingerpicking than I did before I started trying to play the songs I"m trying to play.
So I just picked up a ZOOM G7.1ut effects console the other day. I’m loving the USB interface.
Open A String = 5th fret on E string. Same as usual.
Unless you tuned ALL of your stuff to C#.
Then I believe 3rd fret A string is now your A. 5th fret E string should equal 3rd fret A in this case. Then take it slow and fix the rest.
Just broke my G.
Steel acoustic string recommendations. Go!
Thanks, and yeah, changed it all to C#
Girlfriend’s been out of town for days, I’m working two shifts within seven hours of each other, and I have a bad final exam immediately after. So I’m in that kind of mood.
Started playing Persona 3 FES, and can’t make it to my first significant save point because I keep pausing to play all the music on bass.
good shit, goodm0urning.
I personally like Ernie Ball Acoustic Slinky. Admittedly, I mostly got into them because I use the electric-guitar counterpart religiously, but I haven’t had a broken string for years.
On the other hand, I’ve had nothing but bad experiences with D’Addarios.
I mostly play either Plectrum (Tomastik-Infeld), Cleartone, or Elixir Nanowebs.
Though, out of those, Cleartone’s seem to be the best for my style. However, they don’t really last more than two months… but I never let strings go more than a month and a half without changing just 'cause I’m obsessive like that.
Edit:
The wonderful world of guitar, where you can tell someone face to face that you broke your g-string while fingering A-Minor and you won’t get any weird looks.
(yes I know it’s the most overplayed guitar joke ever… but I can’t pass up an opportunity like this)
Just found out I live 3 minutes from Lead Belly’s grave. To bad I’m lazy and don’t want to go take pictures.
I just found out about these guys http://warehousespeakers.com/forums.php and evidently they are on par with celestions stuff if not better. Going to outfit a 4x12 with their V30 copy.
I’m going to buy strings today or tomorrow… so stay away from D’addarios? L&M’s pimp them out like no tomorrow. :bluu:
Can’t go wrong with Ernie Ball Slinkies. Good quality, low price.
Yeah, no one ever complained about EB’s.
I always, always get S.I.T.'s but they are kinda rare to find in a local music shop. Best strings bass/guitar I’ve ever played.
With my baritone, I’ve actually had surprisingly good luck with my D’addario .014 - .070 set. Then again, the only other baritone acoustic set seems to be made by La Bella… and I cannot stand those.
Heh, that’s cool. I live about 10 minutes away from Randy Rhodes’ grave. I’ve been meaning to go see his grave, but laziness kicks in.
Sorry for the double post, but how can I achieve a “violin” type sound? I have a fernandes sustainer in my guitar, but I’m not really tech savvy.
Check out 3:04 till around 3:29

Same guitar player, listen from 1:37 and it runs throughout the song.

I got a question, I used to play the electric guitar 10yrs ago and then lost interest later on due to being a stupid highschool kid. I want to get back into it again and am thinking about getting the epiphone starter pack at guitarcenter. But then when I was driving home I noticed a pawn shop and thought about maybe getting a guitar there. Has any one bought guitars at a pawn shop? Are they usually legit or would I have to have some one with good knowledge on guitars to come with me? Eventually I would want a really good guitar like a Gibson and I know I will have the money soon for it so should I just get the guitar right off the bat? I just want to hear some advice as I’ve been out of the game for quite a while. My last guitar was a Fender Telecaster but when I did have it I wasn’t satisfied when I played it.
Thanks
Pawnshops can be really hit or miss. Most of the stuff you’ll find there is never that good. Most need significant repairs as well, refrets, neck resets, all sorts of fun stuff. However, if you know what you’re looking for, they can be amazing. Finding something as valuable as a 40’s era martin isn’t unheard of, because a lot of the time, these people don’t know what they have. So… long story short, you’re probably safer with something from guitar centre, unless you know your guitar stuff. Also, what pawnshops are notorious for doing, is claiming guitars are older than they actually are. Always, ALWAYS check the serial number.
