[SRK Guitarists and Bassists 2.0]

the cheaper fender copies are much better than the stock MIM Fender’s, you save money that could go into setup, and new pickups. By then you have a guitar that will slaughter any Fender MIM, and I love Fenders.

Ah, gotcha. depends on the model…AL series Agiles are universally considered better than similarly priced Epiphones across the board. Higher end ones compare favorably to Gibson LP standards. The Agile strats aren’t as good as USA strats (or american standard), but are noticably better than MIMs by many accounts (some ways are pretty obvious; for example, i think all the Agiles that don’t have a floyd or stop taiil come with a Wilkinson trem, which is significantly better than the stock Fender trem). I’m not really sure what to compare the superstrat bodies to…

The lower end SX guitars are hit-or-miss sometimes. Some are shockingly good, most are okay. The best SX strats are comparable to MIM strats at around 1/4 the price. The average ones are better than you’d expect for $100 or so.(and they come with a lot of interesting options, too…like mahogany bodies and P90s and whatnot). Plus they use pretty standard parts, so upgrading is very easy if you so coose.

Douglas guitars are…well, there’s a brand of mid-range guitars called Shine that are popular in the UK and other places. Douglas is produced in the same plant and usually carries the same model number. Great on the bang-for-buck. They price up to the lower $200 range. I’m in love with this one. Mahogany neck-thru body, floyd routing, grover tuners, bound fretboard, Ibanez S-like thin body (though not as stupidly thin as the S). If it came lefty, I’d get it and put an original floyd and some GFS pickups in it. They also have some other models that come with EMG HZ pickups, which on their own would cost around $160 for a set. The guitars with the pickups run $179ish, which is pretty awesome. It’s interesting to note that the Shine guitars usually price significantly higher than their Douglas counterparts, despite being basically the same guitar besides headstock.

Other brands similar to these that have tremendous bang-for-buck:

The Samick Greg Bennett series
Jay Turser guitars
GFS Xaviere guitars…look at how nice the components are on these sub-$200 guitars. I asked them and they’ll have lefties later this year, as well as basses.

Cool, thanks for the comparison.

And with that, I depart.

I just picked up an Ernie Ball Music Man Petrucci w/ Piezo.

Best new guitar to come out in years.

Damn fretless intonation

shakes fist

Heh…new to fretless?

Yeah, and I’ve got dots, but those don’t help as much as big pieces of metal sticking out of the fretboard.

Practice makes perfect. Plus drone notes.

Does anyone have any tip’s for Alternate picking???

My problems is that I cant seem to get a clean sound when I strum back up and I also cant keep strumming the same notes over and over without accidentally strumming another chord.

Practice. With a metronome. Play it as slowly as you need to in order to get it sounding right, then gradually work up to the speed you want to play it at.

Have any good online resources to learn alt picking?

God, I miss my bass. I took it to get re-setup, and then promptly ran out of money. It’s been two weeks. I want her back.

Ok so I figured out how to tune my guitar to C# using no tuners. Open A string = 8th fret on E string.

Now how do I go back to normal.
