[SRK Guitarists and Bassists 2.0]

I’ve already learned my basic chords.

However its almost impossible for me to make clean transitions to certain chords like the A chord because my fingers are to big.

My question is, is it alright for me to substitute the normal A chord for the Power A chord (among others)?

Work on the transition. It will get better.

You can use the power chord, but it will sound subtly different due to the lack of open strings and the higher position on the neck. Notes sound rounder and resonate less the further up the neck you get.

Ok, thx.

The tips of my fingers aren’t completely hard yet, is it easier once they’re callused?

This. Such a nice song to play on guitar, simple, easy, and sounds great.

i’m thinking of picking up an Ibanez Iceman. one of the new models maybe.

i only play gibsons, so i was wondering if anyone has any thoughts on Ibanez or the Iceman. i first learned long ago on an Ibanez strat copy, but all i can remember is it felt/sounded about average and stayed in tune, so that’s not saying much. i’ll admit i’m really only looking at the Iceman because of the body style.

Agile AL-2800

Agile AG-3000

Played both of these yesterday at my Uncles shop and they sounded AWESOME.

Gonna buy one of them Friday once I get paid (not sure which one though).

Has anyone else in here ever played one of the two before (maybe have an opinon on them)?

Always wondered about them, but due to name I just knew they would sound amazing for the price. Now I want one!

that’s standard for AL Agiles. I’m getting the albino 2500 as SOON as I get the funds. I wish they still had the lefty AG-3000s with the ash tops.Speaking of Rondo products, I dropped off my Douglas WPB-955 bass at my luthier yesterday to see if he can work my action down. If he can, it’ll have the playability to match the sound that everybody loves when they hear it. I’m also going to get off my ass and finish stripping my SX jazz bass. for the refinish project, and get myself some scrap wood to practice on.

mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm

want a black agile.

anyone here mess with the Digitech Bad Monkey? I’m looking for a pedal to put in front of my valveking for when I want “retarded” high gain. I was looking at the TS9 but why spend 100 bucks if I don’t have to?

I had been hearing good things about the Bad Monkey. Any thoughts?

Is there any specific tonal characteristic you’re looking for, other than retarded high gain?

The Valveking has the tone I want already. I’m just looking for a booster more or less to tighten it up.

Now that I’m home, I can link directly to what I’m talking about.

This is the Agile AL-2500 I intend to get very soon (though it may have to wait until after BC).

I couldn’t decide whether to get that one first, though, or this. Looks like the decision was made for me, though, since it’s out of stock. Shame, too, since I planned on getting this to match it.

and holy shit, I wish I had the cash on me right now to order this. It’s a B stock, but a few minor scratches and tarnished hardware (which I would have probably replaced anyway) - 44% of regular price? Yes, please. 99 bucks to pop my 6 cherry is a steal. And at least one really talented bassist plays that very model.

I love how completely absurd this body shape is. I must have it.

I’m really, really looking forward to later this year when GFS starts releasing Xaviere basses and lefties. I’m already planning on putting GFS jazz pickups in my project jazz bass, and probably in my Douglas SIL-61L guitar that’s apparently been discontinued. I’ve heard their pickups are ridiculous value for the money, and from my single experience with a guitar that had them, I’d have to agree.

If you find what you’re looking for, can you record an example of what it sounds like?

I decided to use my Boss super-overdrive in front of the Valveking anyway because I found a configuration that I really liked, although, like I mentioned before, it kind of removes some of the bass. As it stands, I really have to see how it works in a band situation before I decide on keeping it or not, but it sounds great right now.

I like the Les-Paul-but-not look of these.

The best part is the EMG HZ pickups that run around 80 bucks retail on their own…so essentially you’re buying pickups, and you get a guitar for 20 bucks.

Have you played any of these? For some reason they all sound too good to be true. Besides that blue agile though, I’m not really digging the looks of any of them. The albino finish just isn’t doing anything for me.

I’ve played one Agile. It was nice. Think it was an AL-2000 model. Beyond those, I’ve gleaned info from a number of places across the internet, like talkbass.com or sevenstring.org (they love the Agiles over there…several of the Interceptor/Septor models are based on specs the members of the board gave to the owner of Rondo Music). Reviews are overwhelmingly positive without regard to money and even more so with price as a consideration, and Rondo’s return policy is great, so risk is minimal.

What kind of looks are you typically into? A lot of the ones i posted are pretty straightforward in appearance, and I have a fetish for natural finishes (especially with ash bodies), so there was some emphasis in what I posted. Oh, and those douglas guitars I linked to that you responded to? The Hawkers? I’ve never seen them on the site before today. But they’re not the first Douglas axes they’ve posted with EMG HZs in that general price range.

Love the tribal purple:

The difference between Agiles and other less expensive import guitars is pretty much the top-shelf options avialable and the quality materials used. If there are ever issues, it’s usually something like a high fret or just need of a setup. I can understand going from GC or your boutique luthier to these and expecting them to be junk, but they’re certainly not.

I see. Well it’s good to know there are so many quality guitars available for budget prices. If you were to tier them, where would you put them?

Also, the Tribal purple guitar you posted pics of looks amazing. I totally dig guitars like that. You asked earlier what kind I was into. I would say Strat or Super Strat body types with Flamed Maple finishes or something similar. Anything in Sunburst, blue, or green, makes me want to purchase.

I hear you. The tribal green also looks amazing. As for tiers, if you mean the brands carried there, it’s Agile > Douglas > SX for guitars and Brice > Douglas > SX for basses, though there is some intersect. SX basses are generally considered better quality than SX guitars. All of them, even the cheapest, make great mod platforms and are made of quality woods with very nice finishes. For AL guitars, there’s a pretty defined tiering [url=http://www.rondomusic.net/alspec.html]here. For the superstrat types, there are just different features on each. Interceptor Pros come with EMGS and a licensed Floyd. Interceptors use their stock pickups…Septors I don’t remember exactly. Actually they carry so many similar models you pretty much need to look at the spec sheet to nail it down.

I see, but when I said “tier,” I meant more along the lines of “How do they compare to other big name brands like Fender or Gibson?”
