[SRK Guitarists and Bassists 2.0]

After owning a guitar for like 5 years I finally decided to pick the damn thing up and learn something. Right now I’m learning the following songs:

Ne-Yo - So Sick
Ne-Yo - Because of You
Ryan Tedder - The Look

Why is singing and playing at the same time to hard? :shake:

yay people finally stopped being retarded and are using the new thread.

Yeah, using a thread that’s barely 20 pages long and has some good information that should probably be bumped once in a while is retarded.

QFT! I own them all. They really, really help you understand a bunch of shit. I highly recommend <sic> any aspiring guitarist to atleast check them out.

Anyways Warp. What I do for starters is do a bunch of warm up exercises, be it scales up and down, chromatic stuff, stretching, all that sort of stuff. Also, if you don’t own a metronome already, get one now. Things get really easier once you have a metronome. Here’s a lick so you can get started:

E|–20-19-17------------------------------------------------------------------------------
B|--------------20-19-17-16-17-19-17-16---------------------------------------------
G|-----------------------------------------------17-16-14---------------------------------
D|-----------------------------------------------------------17-16-14-13-14-16-14-13
A|--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
E|--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

E|--------------------------------------------------------
B|--------------------------------------------------------
G|--------------------------------------------------------
D|--------------------------------------------------------
A|–15-14-12-------------------------------------------
E|----------------15-14-12-11-12-14-12-11-12----

It’s a harmonic minor, Malmsteen-esque shred run, just doodling around in octaves. For added awesomeness, try it all legato. Just pick the first C note (20th fret) on the E string and just legato everything after that.

And so? Is that the first time info has been left/forgotten as a thread went from v1. to v2.?

This thread is 2 months old has a has five pages while v.1 has gained half of a single page in the same amount of time. Sure doesn’t seem that people cared about the “good info” there. Everyone had moved on save you, another guy and an idiot.

That thread was pretty much completely dead until I started this new one. I searched for it, it was on like…page 15 or something. I shifted some of that “useful information” especially for new people onto the first post of this thread. Sorry for reviving the topic and making stuff easier to find.

There’s nothing in this thread that couldn’t have just as easily been posted in the other thread, which was fine.

But whatever, it’s a moot point.

Chorus and reverb: yay or nay?

I have a problem where my voice tends to follow the same tune as whatever the guitar is playing, including rises and lows etc… how do I fix this?

reverb nay, chorus when used right is great.

And making 2 threads or a “2.0” of something when there was already a thread was pretty dumb. What was more dumb was getting someone to lock the old thread so this shitty new one would get more posts.

You had no problem with it when I asked you and Warp before making it.

Ahh, pointless bitching is funny.

I don’t remember this at all.

If I did say that, I was married at the time.

I rest my case.

So, Les Paul standard? Anyone own one?

I have an Epiphone Les Paul Special II… it’s a beginner guitar.

I’ve been trying to figure out whether I should buy a new guitar (Ibanez SAS36FM if I do) or get a multi-effects processor (ZOOM G9.2tt) instead for now.

I played a (righty) Ibanez SR500 Saturday. It was a boneriffic experience. I played a Warwick Corvette Standard 5, which costs roughly 2.5 times what the SR500 does, and while i was able to get the trademark Warwick growl (which I love), I wasn’t able to dial in any other tone that appealed to me. With the SR500, I got tons. I’m now debating whether to go 500, 505 or 506 when I do get one. The four string appeals due to the absurdly thin, fast neck and ease of slap playing. I’m not sure how the 5 string compares–I’ll have to play one to figure it out, I guess.

I just started playing guitar about 2 months ago. I’ve learned some of the basic chords and barre chords on the 6th and 5th strings. What are some good songs to get under your belt first?

If you can play chords proficiently, I’d suggest any songs that have simple chord transitions first. That works on improving the speed in your fret hand.

One of the easiest I can think of is “Horse With No Name” by America. I think the Guitar Noise link in the first post of the thread has a link to it. It’s two chords. =P

Since I’m strictly an acoustic player, I absolutely love my reverb when I actually plug in. Chorus… I haven’t really found a good use for it in the music I play, so the poor pedal doesn’t even get touched.

When I was learning to sing at the same time, I was told to start by singing over a single chord, and once I had managed to do that somewhat alright, I moved on to two chords, then three, etc etc until I could wrestle my way through most of my fingerstyle-esque stuff.

that’s what I’m having to do to play bass and melody parts simultaneously, so I could see it working. also for separating right foot + hand in drumming.

Anything off of AC/DC’s Highway To Hell album. Early Sabbath has a bunch of straight-ahead chord stuff as well.

Final Fantasy 8 - Breezy
