[SRK Guitarists and Bassists 2.0]

I’m currently learning to play Back in Black, & Hells Bells.

They’re not vary hard to play (minus the solos).

I think alot of AC/DC songs are good for getting used to shifting chords and stretching you fingers

Working on a few songs. A classical piece called “La Foule.” Matt Rach has a great version of it on youtube.

Plus spending a bit of time picking up as much of “Trilogy Opus Suite No. 5” as I can. Malmsteen is no joke.

Then random stuff here and there. Whatever sounds really nice. Radiohead and such.

I wanna buy this http://www.musiciansfriend.com/product/DiMarzio-DP101-Dual-Sound-Bridge-Pickup?sku=302755&src=3WFRWXX&ZYXSEM=0&CAWELAID=26021890
and theres a “please select an option” like the color, but there’s no way for me to see what it actually looks like. Is there a site that will let me see it before hand?

http://www.dimarzio.com/site/#/pickups/

It’s under “dual sound”. You can see all the colors there.

Thanks, that’ll do. I wanted black anywas, but I was hoping I’d see the actual thing with the all the colors already present.

I was toying with the idea of having the 101 in the neck, and EMG 81 in the bridge, any thoughts?

I’m currently playing this song.

My Guitars

Sorry for the blurry pic.

The Silvertone SG was my first guitar and has served me well.

The Stagg Les Paul was my second Guitar & plays as well as any Epiphone or Gibson I’ve tried.

I just bought the Kona (Kona K2 Thin Body Acoustic / Electric) two weeks ago and am totally in love with it.

Its an awesome guitar.

Thats my practice amp in the corner (its a Stagg).

I just ordered Seymour Duncan Alnico Pro II humbuckers for the Stagg and can’t wait to get em :woot:

What type of Humbuckers/pickups do you guys prefer to play with?

Oh and of course on the bed thats my little Redoctane Les Paul (but I got rid of GH, I use it for Rock Band).

I’m probably putting GFS pickups in most of my instruments before long. amazing bang for buck. They’re the pickups going in my absurdly crazy modded jazz bass when I get done with it (along with an Audere preamp).

I’ve tried some staggs and they sucked. I’ve also tried some staggs that were shockingly good, without any sort of “for the money” caveat. a 5 string Stingray bass copy, a telecaster copy, and one other I can’t remember offhand were extremely impressive. It’s impressive what you can get for little money these days.

guitaroos…
From left to right:

St. Blues Bluesmaster IV, looks like a Les Paul but is pretty much entirely a tele.

Ibanez AS103BM, I was planning on getting the AS73, but I got offered an awesome deal so yeah…

Finally, a 1983 Kramer Pacer Special, my main guitar that I use almost every day.

Oh yeah, and in the middle is my amp, a Laney LC15R.

I haven’t really needed to mess with pickups that much. I tried to put a Seymour Duncan SH-6 in the Bluesmaster, but it was a dud. It didn’t really matter though because not too much later I got the Kramer which the previous owner had installed a Mitymite. Very high output and very 80’sish.

They’re gorgeous.

I really like that Ibanez.

I have a soft spot for semi-hallows

I played a Washburn HB32DM at my uncles store recently and loved it. Click Me

My family

SX kit jazz bass that is in pieces right now for heavy modding, Douglas WPB-955 5 string bass, Douglas SIL-61 guitar, Ibanez PF5L acoustic.

I’ve heard of St. Blues guitars–very positive things, actually. Never had the opportunity to play one, though.

I went to my store today and they had the EVH so me and a guy that worked there wheeled it back to the storeroom and I tested it for about an hour or so.

What an over priced head first of all. Imagine a 5150 with slightly more versatility and a better clean channel. It’s even less “meat and potatos” than the 5150 and even more “buzzy”. I spent 30 minutes just trying to get some girth in the tone to no avail. It could be the guitar/strings but I doubt it, I don’t see the hype over this one, other than being a high gain monster like the 5150 (5150 sounds better to my ears…shrugs)

heh, this thread bumps just as I get owned by the 6th string and cut my finger

Sorry I didn’t reply sooner. Work sucks.

Anyways, this pretty much depends on what you want to achieve. Wanna work on alternate picking? Legato? Blues-Shred? Because that way, I know what exercises and stuff to show you.

Yes. There is nothing I don’t wnat to learn. I just have a hard time finding a starting point and a process to doing it.

I’m speaking out of turn, but I’d highly recommend the Guitar Grimoire series, the scale and chord book.

Really every guitarist should have these or some form, they really are amazing books for scale/chord practice.

Isn’t the Frankenstein replica some ridiculous amount as well (something like 25,000)?

I’ve seen videos of it, but never actually seen one in person.

I have no clue why someone would shell out that kinda of cash just to try and be like Eddie.

Yeah, for a shitty version of a really horrible looking guitar it’s 25k

Comes with some signed print of his ugly mug and a case. Retarded.

Van Halen is overrated IMO. Where’s all the Jason Becker swag?

I’ve been playing off and on for well over 10 years. Not nearly as good as I probably should be, but I consider myself pretty decent, blah blah blah. You know the story.

Here’s the thing, I’ve been playing the same shit ass guitar since I started and I know that it’s held me back. Whenever I play on a decent guitar it feels like butter. Almost like everything plays itself. I’m trying to tackle Cliffs of Dover right now and I can’t nail the intro yet. It’s pissing me off. The rest of the song is not that bad, but the solos are insane. So I can only assume that my guitar is the problem :wgrin:.

So I’m now contemplating getting a Les Paul standard, I like the idea of upgrading from a Pinto to a Bentley. Does anyone have one of these? Is there anything I should watch out for if I buy used? Any particular year that’s especially sought after/avoided? Is maintenance a bitch?

I ask because I’m basically retarded as far as tech goes. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

If it helps, I play alot of blues, classic rock, a bit of punk and some metal. I’m basically all over the place so I’d like to know if this is a versatile guitar or mainly used in limited genres like a telecaster.

Thanks
