I went ahead and took Bass lessons. I’ll be on my 5th one going on next week. Shit has helped me become unbelievably better
It’s a matter of personal taste, of course, but I always thought the jazz was a nice little pickup. It’s somewhere between the vintage PAF sound and more the modern Petrucci-esque widdly widdly sound.
Though I don’t know of any big guitarists who use it, Seymour Duncan himself reputedly favors the jazz pickup in his guitars.
Yeah I’m just going with a jazz. Full shred is a little too dense for me. Not as articulate as I’d like it to be. A friend did recommend a screamin demon for the neck. Mustaine used a jazz back in the day. Pretty much popularized it for metal use for a while.
The funny thing is that Mustaine only ever used the bridge pickup. I don’t even think he had his neck pickups wired.
Any tips on learning the F major bar chord? I play on a steel string acoustic and this bar chord has literally been pissing me off for several years. It’s mostly the B string that I can never hold down properly.
if you wanted to be lazy about it just play the 1st fret e and b strings with pointer, 2nd fret G string with middle, and 3rd fret D string ring. or just get your pointer strong enough to bar. start with barring two or three strings and them move up.
i disagree with some, but geeeeez :wow:
go back a page to see the nsfw guitar
The bass with the body and headstock reversed is cracking me up.
yeah, i thought that was photoshopped at first until i saw his other basses. that dude is all around ridiculous.
Anyone know of Guitar/Bass tablature software? I want to learn bass tabs for this song. I probably could do it all by ear, but I don’t have the patience

Anybody know anything about Wampler pedals? Going by the YouTube vids, the Pinnacle might be the best distortion pedal I’ve ever heard.
hey guys. i got a gibson les paul standard traditional pro a couple of months ago (had to sell my old electric drumset to help pay for it). i’m borrowing my pastor’s cheap solidstate vox amp but i plan on buying a tube combo amp sometime soon, preferably in the $500-$700 range. what would you guys recommend?
I should come back and check this thread more than what I do. I’m disappointed there aren’t more bassists here on SRK
I have a wampler triple wreckstortion. It is such an amazing pedal. solid as a rock, good costumer service, and I believe a 2 year warranty. from what I ve heard of the others they are all amazing pedals.
Im here.
Been playing a LOT of songs from the Blues Brothers ost. Not too hard but very very fun to play. So much rhythm to it and makes me happy
A while back I had to sell my Japanese ESP and Line 6 amp for rent. The tone on that setup was too “robotic” for my taste due to a solid state amp and active pickups. So a few months ago I couldn’t last any longer without any electric guitar sessions so I took a risk and got an Epiphone Les Paul Custom Shop and a Marshal Analog amp(suppose to give more of a tube sound). Granted I like the tone from this budget setup a lot more then what I had before but it seems like the pickup on the guitar is weak. I’m thinking about buying an aftermarket pickup. I hear that the Air Nortan is good, but I’m not sure. My style is 70’s rock/bluesy stuff. Any suggestions on a pickup that would fit the bill? Eventually I would like to get a Black Amp from Electric Amp USA but not until I am out of school and have a job that I can afford to get.
I’ve only heard good things about the Air Norton.
Thinking about buying a guitar off rondo music, was looking at picking up one of these three.
Agile AL-2000 Black at RondoMusic.com
SX EG2 BO BK Electric Guitar at RondoMusic.com
Douglas WRL 590 Floyd TGR Green at RondoMusic.com
Now, I’ve heard nothing but good things about the Agile series, Has anyone tried either the Douglas or the SX? I really love the design of both of them but if they are gonna be janky as fuck I’m just gonna pick up the Agile and be happy.
I’ve owned an Agile AL-2000 and currently own a Douglas WRL-590.
The Agile was awesome, and my only misgiving about it was that it was a god damn heavy fucker. Les Pauls are supposed to be heavy, so the weight was appropriate. It just wasn’t the guitar for me. I’m not beefy enough to wear it for very long.
The Douglas, on the other hand, kicks so much ass. It plays great, it has a terrific unplugged resonance, and it’s almost impossible to knock out of tune. I blocked the Floyd so that it can only dive and threw in a Duncan JB pickup, so it is basically my ideal guitar.
Well I think you just sold me on the Douglas. I loved the looks of it and the specs seemed good so I’ll probably pick one up by Christmas.
Received my Wampler Pinnacle distortion pedal in the mail. I will tentatively say that the Marshall Guv’nor Plus is either going on the shelf forever or getting sold.
I’ve only had the opportunity to play it plugged into my direct effects box and/or into a Marshall MS-4 (the miniaturized full stack), so I can’t report with certainty how it sounds through a cranked amp, but it does seem to have a good sound. Just as importantly, it feels and responds like an amp should, as opposed to most distortion boxes that give a hyper-compressed sound and feel like they’re playing the guitar for you.
