[SRK Guitarists and Bassists 2.0]

they are lower end, nothing fancy, I have played some of their tube stuff, its not bad. Not a big fan of their solid state, but not bad for a beginner. Keep in mind you need a cab, if he isnt giving you one with it.

any cab suggestions something in the 300-400$ range??? maybe less???

I got a new guitar.

looks familiar

My WRL-590

How’re you digging it?

It’s awesome. A couple of changes I made straightaway were the bridge pickup (I swapped in a Duncan JB) and the trem system (I had it blocked so that it still dives, but doesn’t float). Despite being the Van Halen nut that I am, I’ve never owned a guitar with a usable whammy bar before, so I’m having a lot of fun learning on it. Some whammy stuff is already finding its way into the new stuff that my band is working on.

Awesome. I’ve literally had my eyes on that guitar for about 2 years since it first came out. It took a year for a lefty model to surface, and that one has a backwards trem arm. I think it’s beautiful, and if it’s like my old bolt-on Douglas that it’s modeled similarly to, it should be rather slim and have a pretty fast neck. Also, alfaphlex, I hate you. I want that 7 string douglas. Such a good deal, and pretty sexy looking to boot. No lefty version to date, though.

The Douglas SR-370 is awesome, sucks there’s no lefty version.

If you have any interest in bass, you’ll hate me even more. I scored this Douglas “b-stock” for $99:

Absolutely nothing wrong with it at all. Brand new, 5 string, neck-thru, active pups. It goes for $250 new.

I love Rondo’s douglas line. I think they are the best bang-per-buck from Rondos because the Agiles keep going up in price. I have 3 of each now.

I had a lefty one of those. It’s a very nice bass for the money. I got lots of compliments on its looks, too. Biggest weakness was that the pickups weren’t very hot. The description on those b-stocks said they didn’t play right above the 12th fret. I do play in the higher registers fairly often, so I probably wouldn’t have bought it, but if there’s really nothing wrong, then wow.

A lot of the members that bought the same b-stock (there were quite a few in stock) share the same experience as I have. On mine, you only get a bit of acoustic buzz above the 12th fret, but nothing through my monitors at all.

Regardless, I’m going to level the frets on it anyway and add some fallaway so the frets above the 12th gradually decrease in height. I’ve already done this to 2 of my guitars (one is my WRL-590) and they play so nice with perfectly level frets.

Hey buddies.

Got my first bass guitar. Not fancy. An Ibanez GSR-190, since I heard they were decent starters, and it came with a little personal amp and whatnot. I got it all below face value on Craigslist as well, so I was pretty happy about that.

Anyways, no idea where I would start. The thing’s been picking up mad dust, but I’m hungry to play. I just can’t play anything at all right now.

Where should I start?

Buy one of those books with instructional DVDs. Those help plenty.

Think of some stuff you want to learn, I’d say. Song-wise.

Can humidity really damage a guitar? I"ve been getting mixed opinions. I bought a guitar in Canada and I moved it to Asia (hong kong) just a month ago. In Hong Kong, the relative humidity is around 70% to 85%. Is that humid enough to damage my guitar? I leave my guitar in a case when I am not playing it. Do I need:

  1. to buy a dehumidier for my room (which will be pretty big, a bit larger than an xbox and not really cheap)
    or
  2. to buy a small dehumidifier to put in my guitar case
    or
  3. any dehumidifiers at all?

It’s an acoustic steel string guitar.

Anyone here play a Randall? How are they? Right now I’m split between Randall Mesa & Engl.

It’s going to vary hugely from model to model. The other guitar player in my band plays a Randall Kirk Hammett half stack. He never spends time dialing in his tone, yet it still manages to sound alright. So it’s at least decent.

On an unrelated subject, here’s a blast from my musical past:

 i was about at your wankery level when i was 17 except i couldn’t tap. i lost all of that kind of left hand skill when i got big into Meshuggah and Fear Factory rhythm type stuff. then i lost most of that when i started working out :bluu: [i could play this multiple times back to back. now i get winded after the 2nd minute (too many fucking down strokes in that song )

i got my basic shape down for my first guitar design. i saw some scrap pine at Lowes yesterday for cheap. don’t hate.](http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1hlFY-rjJJE"[/media) i think i might go for it once i figure out where i want my pickup(s) positioned. i’m going to cheat this first time and buy a Warmoth neck, then i’ll start making my own (the neck is the hardest part, yo ).

Sorry if this is the wrong thread to ask this couldn’t find a thread for Tabs but does anyone seriously know where to get Tabs for the following:

MintJam - Rude Awakening
MintJam - Z
MintJam - Gibson Girl
MintJam - Crying Moon
MintJam - Spring Wing

Thanks

Just picked up a BC Rich mockingbird NJ series. Good condition aside from one dent thats not that noticeable, just needs a set up. Got it with a case for 250. Floyd rose too so I think I came out pretty good on it. Gonna put in a duncan distortion bridge and split between the jazz or full shred for the neck.
