[SRK Guitarists and Bassists 2.0]

Yep, same one.

ok, I got the 9th fret ringing, but its still rather low and can barely be heard through my amp. I might invest in some new pickups. I was looking at these http://www.guitarcenter.com/DiMarzio-DP127-Split-P-Replacement-Pickup-for-Fender-P-Bass-302265-i1127656.gc but any other suggestion would be appreciated

Have you tried soloing the bridge pickup? It’s not going to be clearly audible with all pickup settings.

Decided not to get the Agile after all, because I found a killer deal on a used Parker NiteFly M that I couldn’t pass up.

Also, the Orange Tiny Terror is an impressive little amp. A friend of mine went to test one out the other day and I tagged along. Of course it doesn’t do flawless modern metal tones, but I was impressed by how heavy it could get and more importantly it’s cleans. Loved the sweetness it had.

.

If it was unplayable you should have sent it back. Rondo is easy to deal with with stuff like that, though you are talking about 7 years ago. And that SX is s…xy, but if you could find an equivalent Agile you’d probably be better off, since they tend to have a better overall build quality. Not that my SX basses ere flawed in any signifanct way, but I’ve often heard that the gutars are more hit-or-miss. And I’ve heard the quality has gone up considerably over the years…I’ve only known they existed a little over two years, myself.

I got my Agile. I haven’t had the opportunity to really play it yet, but the initial verdict is that it’s a pretty damn decent guitar. Factory setup is way too high, but that’s to be expected. Fit and finish are terrific. I was going to do the Van Halen control scheme like I did with my current main guitar (one knob, one pickup), but I might just put the pickup I want in the bridge and leave the rest of the electronics stock. I’m not sure yet.

More as the situation develops.

Pics or no guitar.

I’ll put some pics up when I get a minute.

Since I may be using the neck pickup after all, I’ve started thinking about pickups (this is a force of habit that I typically repress). I’m very particular about tone, and while there’s an outside chance that the stock neck pickup might have precisely the tonal character I want, odds are I’ll end up trying out a different one at some point.

And, of course, the Seymour Duncan Custom Custom is going in the bridge either way. Damn, I’ve been sitting on this pickup for a long time and now I can finally use it.

Guitar pics.

The whole thing.
Headstock detail.
Body detail (my face + t-shirt Van Halen logo reflected in pickup covers).
The horns.
Finally, I own the time-honored combination of a Les Paul and a Marshall.
Shredding on a flying V in the music store.

  Good shit.

Just got a Fender Squire bass/Rumble amp for Christmas and I’ve been wearing my fingers raw trying to get basic fretting. The guy on the practice DVD is a tool so what are some good bassline tabs to start with?

Also, is there any way to fudge say, rhythm guitar licks for a bass if they don’t use the top two strings on the guitar? Wanna broaden my playing palate ASAP.

you must’ve got the same starter pack I got. Yea, that vid is decent, I mostly used it to get used to the identifying strings and maintenance. As for beginner tabs, Deep Purple- Smoke on the water is great, as is Black Sabbath- Ironman. TBH, Ironman is probably one of the best songs to learn as a beginner, It really helps with dexterity and isn’t really too hard to play starting out. Plus, it’s identifiable, everybody rocks to Ironman

don’t use tabs don’t use tabs

And why not? They’re a nice tool to get me acquainted with the instrument. I know musical notation (youth piano practice) but don’t know my way around the guitar yet.

First post in this thread for me!

I’ve been playing guitar pretty casually for about 4 years and I’m STILL maining a low end guitar! It’s an Ibanez RG120 (lowest of the RG line if I’m not mistaken) but I guess I like it for what it is. It originally had horrible tuning issues due to the wanna-be trem bridge, but I put in an extra spring and it essentially became locked down. Now, I can do divebombs and it’ll come back to its standard tuning! The wonders of being resourceful

I also have this little miniature Vee by Epiphone, appropriately titled a VeeWee, and I actually find it one of the most fun guitars I’ve played on and continue to play on. I tune it to G standard, and it’s just a blast. Out of the box, the action was already set perfectly, almost like a shred neck even. What’s more is that the pickup is NICE. Like, I wouldn’t be surprised if that’s what half the price of the guitar was. It’s pretty hot sounding, and it isn’t naturally dirty. Anyways I’ll post pics of it as soon as my camera’s with me.

I play mostly thrash/black metal (I would play more death, but some of it is extremely difficult and I refuse to keep changing between the numerous tunings found in DM), and I’ve recently taken an interest in jamming fighting game tunes!

Here are the two I’ve recorded so far:
http://www.mediafire.com/?zyylmq1evzy (Kim’s RBS theme)
http://www.mediafire.com/?mtnn4nt1ydi (Chang and Choi’s 2k2 theme)

If I do more of these, should I post em here or in the VG music thread? :wgrin:

edit: btw I recorded the 2k2 theme with a really horrible mic, so please excuse the sound quality

Sounding pretty good man! Keep up the good work.

Woo, fighting game tunes! I’ll be posting some of those before long. Gotta get a guitar first.

I had my first chance to play the Agile at high volume. The pickups aren’t to my taste, but they do sound pretty damn good nevertheless. The guitar sustains like a motherfucker and every note is full-bodied. In short, it’s what I hoped it would be.

You are an idiot and should be treated as such.
