[SRK Guitarists and Bassists 2.0]

Can you do 1:20 to 1:42 actually? I originally posted it as a joke, and then realized how much I want to learn to actually play it

None of the tabs on ultimate guitar do it justice.

I’ll have a Rondo by next month as well.

I plan on making some alterations when I get it, but I’ll be sure to put it through its paces while it’s still stock as well.

great! i want a jazzmaster but if i can save myself some money by getting a rondo i’m all in

My next purchase is gonna be an Ibanez most likely. Those RGs and the Paul Gilbert Models are just too nice.

Hit up ebay! I got a Jap 97 model for $380. Set that mofo up real good. Straight ass neck, 5 folded neck shim, 2 nut shims, adjusted frets… plays like a beast. Imma post pics up as soon as I switch out the pickups (hopefully soon).

Just try to avoid the 99-01 models, they have some seriously messed up knife edges on the bridge and its a pain in the ass to fix.

Yooo… okay guys! Heres that Japanese 97 model I got off of ebay for $380. It has a custom paint job!! Check it out!

The pickups are GREEN Dimarxio X2N (B) and Breed Neck (N). This guitar is awesome!!!

My SX SPJ62 showed up yesterday. There are a couple of minor issues with it, but nothing to dissuade me from the fact that this axes is a motherfucking keeper.

It has two issues that are easily fixed:

  • The pickups are kind of microphonic. I can replace them, but they sound so fucking good I’m tempted not to.
  • Secondly is an issue that plagues a pretty large percentage of passive instruments: the tone knob is essentially an on/off switch, as any setting above 0 will basically max it out.

A couple more ā€œissuesā€ which are entirely subject to personal taste:

  • the neck has a gloss poly finish and a ā€œvintageā€ amber tint. Some people hate this. I don’t mind. A satin finish on a fender style bass is great and what I’m accustomed to, but I don’t have problems with a glossy neck at all.
  • the bass came set up a little funny, which is standard of any mail-order. Ironically, I didn’t take the time to really fix it up because i was too busy playing it. Right now I’ve got too much bow in the neck, so th frets in the 15-20 range buzz. I’ll get it right by the end of the weekend.

But there are so many positives.

  • The strings, which I expected to replace immediately, are surprisingly resonant and clear.
  • The pickups sound really, really good, with the exception that I can’t really dial in a standard ā€œboomyā€ p-bass sound with ease, probably because of the tone knob. There’s a ton of usable sound in this thing that you wouldn’t expect from a $109 instrument.
  • Frets are fine, as far as I can tell so far. No sharp edges
  • Hardware is adequate. Any change made would be stricktly cosmetic. Tuners do their job, bridge does it. Knobs actually feel pretty nice.
  • I’m usually not huge on bursts, but this bass has one of the prettiest bursts I’ve ever seen, and the poly gloss finish makes it that much sexier. There’s so much grain showing through you could almost mistake this alder for ash.
  • It’s fairly light. My jazz was heavier than this P, and i’ve heard the ash J’s are pretty weighty.

All in all, I could deal with the issues with this bass if it was sold at Fender MIM price and sounded this good, and knowing I can make them all go away for $75 or less at guitarfetish is pretty sweet.

Definitely do that. You’d b surprised at how good some of these stock pickups sound.

Canto, that paint job is sick, and I love the green pickups (though I would go with a darker green to keep the earth tone thing going). I wonder if those are stock or painted.

I plan on recording maybe 15 minutes of music with the guitar as-is to memorialize it in its stock state, then I’m gutting the electronics and giving it the Van Halen control scheme (complete with the Seymour Duncan Custom Custom, AKA the EVH pickup).

Nice Looking forward to seeing the results…I didn’t even know they haded a 3ts spalt. Don’t see that a lot.

Jealousy consumes me. Congrats man.

I’ve been eyeing a particular Agile myself. I’ve been GASing for a seven string for a while and the Septor 727 seems to be exactly what I’m after.

I’m probably going to wait a while, because I just got a Seagull. Pics of said Seagull:

Warp is pretty much rondo’s best salesman.

Hell, even I have one because of him.

Ah, that tribal purple loosk sooo much better in person than in Rondo’s pics. That is a beastly looking axe.

hey guys, I need some help. Right now I’m trying to learn Tool’s Disposition on the bass and I’m having trouble with the natural harmonic on the 9th fret on the D string. It really doesn’t want to ring out, not like the 5th, 7th or 12th. Is the 9th fret NH supposed to be that low?

Are you sure it’s natural and not artificial?

9th fret harmonic should be around 20-30% behind the fret. You’ll also want to adjust your pickup tone/volume/selector settings so that it rings out clearer, as the non-5/7/12 harmonics have a more limited response range.

thanks alot, I think I got it. I see the 9th fret NH has a sweet spot, just had to find it

What genre of Rock is this?

I don’t have a guitar in front of me, so I’m saying this purely from memory, but I’m pretty sure the harmonic at the ninth fret can also be found at the fourth fret. I could be wrong. Anyway, if that makes it easier, great, and if not, then at least it’s some fun trivia.
