[SRK Guitarists and Bassists 2.0]

As an alternative to the LTD (I’m not a fan of EMG’s either, they sound too sterile for me), check out Schecter’s guitars. Even the lower end 4-700$ guitars are very nice metal guitars IMO; I play a Schecter C-1 Classic and it plays like butter with the stock Duncan Design humbuckers.

On the other hand, I also have a low level Jackson RR guitar (300 or so) that I put Duncan Invaders on, with 11 gauge strings tuned to Db Standard, and it sounds pretty nasty too. =P

Question for you guys: have any of you tried taking your stuff to Sam Ash for repairs? If so, how are they? The repair shop I used to go to closed down a while back, and I need to have some work done on my stuff at a relatively un-fucked price.

Oh, and goodm0urning, all of the Agile Les’s come with grover 18-1 ratio tuners. Spec comparison

Speaking of Agiles, had any of you seen the 7-string Teles?

When I was complaining about rusty strings on a guitar, I was implying that the store I was in didn’t give a crap about their products and were just looking to sell crap to newbies. I thought that was easy to grasp. Same thing regarding the stickers on pickups. In fact, that should have been incredibly easy to see. SRK.

Hmmm. I think I see where you guys are coming from. You guys don’t have this wave of hate that I do towards Asian guitars. I’ve tried way too many pieces of crap and Agile was a name that I barely remember. I put that name in the group of crappy guitars even though I only played 2 because it was part of my overall terrible experience with Asian guitars. So if I tossed in the Agile name into an improper bin, then it’s because I just assumed it was another rip-off “brand.”

I had no idea Agile was supposed to be good, or even well known. All I knew of them were the 2 guitars I’ve played. Isn’t that a fair assessment?

Want to know the list of consistent problems I’ve had with guitars, such as a Shine? I think I’ve posted about them before, maybe last year, but dead frets, bridges that can’t wait to prematurely cut your strings, crap intonation (even on a tune-o-matic!!!), and awful salespeople (not the guitar’s fault, but adds to the overall experience) are just some of the factors for my views on this matter.

As for Parry, yeah, sorry, I got mormon and JW mixed up. I liked that thread.

goodmourning: yeah, the fact that I probably played 2 bad apples on the bad end of the curve probably just means Agile is just like any other guitar brand. But, don’t you see the flames of hate within my jaded eyes towards Asian guitars? So what if it’s irrational. This is SRK, why the heck are people getting on my case NOW, especially during the time I make a simple mistake (missing the 9 pages) as I am usually flawless? Your expectations should be much lower heh heh

Um, you said you played a bunch of Epis and they all sucked, then listed problems with the instruments that were pretty dismissable. You mentioned the store later. I read it the way you wrote it. The note about the store reads like an aside, not the entire point.

Again, what Agiles did you play?

Ok fair enough. My writing style sucks sometimes and sucks more on other days. Yeah I meant the store being bad. But the Epiphones having a crap setup has been pretty consistent in my experience. That could be a combination of a bad store and just a bad brand of guitar (the Chinese/Korean versions); right now in the case of the Epiphones I’m leaning towards bad BRAND. (again, the Chinese/Korean versions)

I forgot which Agiles I played, but I don’t think I even knew. Ummm both were LP copies, one was a sunburst finish, the other was…well, I don’t even remember. I didn’t bother to research the brand and am unfamiliar with them.

Those errors I listed are “dismissable”??? I would think that having a proper bridge that didn’t eat away at a brand new D’addario 10 high E within 5 MINUTES of being put on by the salesperson would be far from “dismissable.” (true story)

Those problems I listed were “dismissable” to you??? Ummm am I crazy or something? Cuz I expect much better from a guitar that’s supposed to be sold.

…uhh…I was talking about pickup stickers and rusty strings. You know, from the post I was talking about in the first place?

Ahh gotcha, you’re still confused by my crappy wording a few posts ago. I’ll make it clear:

Bad Store = rusty strings, insistence upon dumb stickers on pickups

Bad Guitar = fretting out, dead frets, a bridge that can cut diamonds, intonation designed to traumatize, and some other things I forgot to mention, like bad pickup selector swtich (admittedly a problem in guitars here and there regardless of brand)

There. If I had worded it like this, maybe I would have had more justification to call it “obvious.” My bad for the pretension. Yeah…sometimes my wording is

ah good stuff i’ll check them out.

Well, to be fair, they were D’addarios.

No, you’re confused. You responded to my comment talking about ONE post by disagreeing with it based on something you said in a later post. I get you. You don’t like mass produced asian guitars because some have bad bridges and fretwork.

Man are you gonna tell me some horror stories about these strings? I hope you’re just hating with no reason cuz I got stuck with like a billion of these strings with no recourse  What kind of strings do you use and how are they better than D’addarios?

Sorry man, lol.

A while back, if I couldn’t find the strings I wanted, I would just say “gimme whatever decent brand of x gauges you got” and the first response was almost ALWAYS, without fail, D’Addarios (I assume because they’re rather cheap). Every single time I’ve used these strings, I’ve had one or two pop or break in record time. Longest they’ve lasted for me is maybe a little over a week.

The ones I use and have sworn by for close to a decade are Ernie Ball’s (11 and 10 gauge for electric, Light or Medium gauge for steel string acoustic). They last for months and sound good for most of that time. However, to be fair, I never really experimented with other strings (except Martin acoustic strings), and the only thing keeping me from doing so is cash and a reason to do so.

I’ve always wanted to try Blue Steels, though I hear they take a lot of getting used to and the price is a bit high.

D’addario makes good strings…but those don’t include their cheapest ones.

eh??? They have different price models? I have a bunch of the XL 10s (the orange color), are you saying they make another version of 10s that are of higher quality?

Well, what’s funny is that in my experience, whenever I had to get a new string, the store (usually GC just cuz they’re so cheap) almost always hands me an Ernie Ball. I used to like Ernie Ball, too, but I had a lot of them pop out on me. Granted, this was like a decade ago so I might have done something wrong myself in terms of stringing and whatnot, but there’s my “horror” story. Not much to say except that they’ve broken on me, which isn’t limited to brand.

Honestly I don’t see a big difference between D’addarios and any other major brand, I went with them because my friend’s uncle recommended them to me way back in the day. And…I know this sounds like I’m totally bashing Asian products, but the absolute worst strings I got were the Korean ones that came with my acoustic as part of a bargain deal. Haha those strings were utter crap…

Ernie Ball strings are godlike.

That is my two cents about Ernie Ball strings.

I’m having trouble deciding on what guitar to buy…

I’ve had my eyes on an Ibanez RG Trems
Can anyone recommend me what to buy (and why?) Thanks.

Thousands upon thousands of guitars in the world, and you want somebody to recommend something with absolutely no information?

I was kinda referring to the one in the link. If they’ve tried one of those, then a little info/comment about pros & cons would be appreciated. If not, that’s still fine by me.

Refer to post #361 of this thread. Thank you.

Thanks. I just realized sooner that the JEM7V is really not worth it IMO.
