[SRK Guitarists and Bassists 2.0]

that’s pretty kick-ass. i love the body shape of those 8 stringers. definitely gonna consider buying from them if i ever get some disposable income (i need to make sure i can even handle a 7 stringer first though ).

anybody get bitten by the DIY bug? i’m definitely going to make my next guitar which will probably be a 7 string. my friend gave me his bass to refinish as practice. he tried to paint it in high school, but he had never painted anything before and it didn’t come out too good. i showed him my sticks (which was my first time painting anything) and wanted me to fix his stuff. i’ll post pics of the process when i get started…

I’m actually stuck in mid-process of a mod job on an SX bass. I’ve just been lazy/afraid to start on the refinish. I should find some scrap wood to practice on, I guess.

Budget? :lovin:

not really but it can’t be a 1000$ guitar. hahahah:rofl:

No, he was asking you what your budget was. I guess it’s sub-$1000, which si a pretty wide range.

Set bridge, mahogany body with maple neck and rosewood fretboard, EMG-81 pickups. For the price its a pretty okay guitar.
Those EMGs will scream with the tunings you’re using. Personally I don’t like them, but if you’re into the newer metal stuff then you’ll love them.

this looks neat. I just need to find it in solid black and i’m sold. :lovin:

A question to the resident Rondo enthusiasts: how’s the quality of the wiring and controls, specifically on the Agile guitar line? Usually when I pick up a budget guitar, my first act is to install new wiring and pots since the stock ones tend to be crappy, but I have no experience with Rondo’s stuff.

It’s not uncommon to see mods to the electronics. My impression bades on other people’s experiences is that they’re better than in a lot of budget guitars, and tend to improve as you go up the line.

I’d like the answer to this as well; I own an Agile 2300 Junior I got when I was 14, and I’ve only recently attempted to teach myself guitar.

It cost around 250ish.

Another question: the one I’m interested in is one of the Paul-style Agiles. Strictly speaking stock, how is the tuning stability?

A couple of weeks ago I jammed on this beauty: http://www.music123.com/Gibson-Custom-1954-Les-Paul-Goldtop-VOS-Electric-Guitar-517994-i1149825.Music123

Usually I tell myself to stay away from Gibsons because I think they are all hype and totally overpriced, but this baby was a DREAM to play. Oh my god, I’ve played far too many crap asian guitars in the past 2 years (Korean and Chinese-made Epiphones included), so of course anything of quality was gonna floor me, but this thing…the neck was BUTTER. Simply amazing. And I was also interested in the sound of P90s, which of course sounded sweet and had a really nice sounding crunch in overdrive.

What was also cool was that the store I played it in (located in Singapore) was really cool; they didn’t hesitate or give me a once-over when I asked to play it. I thought I would have to pass a test and sign a waver or something, the way other stores keep their valuables…they gave me my own room with a JCM (tube), and let me rip for nearly an hour. There were selling techniques in effect, but I felt no pressure to buy and they were quite adapt at what they do and had a passion for guitars. Great experience.

Last week, I played a bunch of Epiphones, and they all SUCKED. Dead frets, stupid stickers on the pickups that the store owner refused to remove, incredibly rusty strings, etc…also known as a MONEY-ABOVE-ALL store where the dollar is the bottom line. No semblance of quality there. And the necks felt like crap.

So yeah my opinion of Gibson has risen dramatically, but more for the fact that so many other brands are just crap. I can’t justify anymore sub-1000 guitar purchases like I did in the past; I gotta stick with quality…

And as much as Gibson has impressed me, I still want a Fender :lovin:

I’m kinda looking for a new bass. I’m really interested in the Fender Jazz, but I came across this Bass on Ebay by Davison. I’ve actually never heard of this brand and was wondering if it’s a good deal or not. http://cgi.ebay.com/NEW-VINTAGE-CUTAWAY-ELECTRIC-BASS-GUITAR-SALE-MAPLE-TOP_W0QQitemZ350104739861QQcmdZViewItem?hash=item350104739861&_trkparms=72%3A1419|39%3A1|66%3A2|65%3A12|240%3A1308&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14

Hold on hold on hold on…

So I’ve read about Agile guitars in here, mostly from Warpticon. I checked out the forum and saw a link to some Agiles on sale. All of the guitars were 100 dollars or less…ummm what exactly are we talking about here? Something for beginners, or something that’s supposed to be modded to hell in order to get a decent sound?

Beware of Shine guitars. Terrible, absolutely terrible. Imagine my lack of shock when I heard that it’s a Korean brand. I think the old Epiphone factory made the Shines on the side and sold them without benefit of advertisement (or quality, for that matter) I think you mentioned those too, Warpticon…I wonder…

Agiles are solid guitars period. You need to get over the idea that price always dictates how good something is.

Price can also dictate how bad something is as well. You simply cannot have a high-end guitar for less than 300 dollars. That said, I am pretty dumb for not seeing the other 9 pages on the Rondo website.

HOWEVER, upon perusal of those 9 pages, I noticed something. I’ve played a couple of these pieces of crap in Korea. I dunno what I was thinking, trying out LP copies since I don’t want to carry all that weight, but I did anyway. Burny’s LP copies are good, but the Agiles? Gotta be kidding me. It could be that I’ve tried the crappy ones out of bad luck (I only tried 2, both at the same store), but I walked away totally unimpressed and even more saddened by the fact that (at the time) my options for a new guitar were so bad.

Maybe you just don’t know what tone is or how to play guitar properly.

Listen, I own a Gibson Les Paul (a REAL one), and a lot of other gear. Price doesn’t make the guitar. I’ve played Agiles that played a ton better than my Gibby and with pickup upgrade would be amazing and be way cheaper than my custom. And yes, you can get a GREAT guitar for less than 300 bucks. Stop talking out of your uninformed ass. The fact you didn’t even notice the other 9 pages before running here to post sums up your character enough for me.

Heh heh, feel the need to attack my character? I’ve played crappy Gibsons myself. My friend who knows nothing about guitars plunked down 900 on an LP studio that had a warped neck and some really lousy electronics. I even said in a previous post that I would probably never buy a Gibson because it’s all marketing and other overhead.

I didn’t notice the other 9 pages because my internet is sucking at the moment and it didn’t even load the bottom haha. Does the fact that I admit that I was dumb to not see the other pages tell you a bit more about my character, or did you feel the need to run here to post up? (Notice the parallels)

edit: dang I almost forgot. The fact of the matter is, I’ve played 2 Agiles and they SUCKED. If they were supposed to be good, I never got a fair chance I guess. But that’s my personal experience. There are worse consumers who would write exactly what I have written without even playing the instrument, why the emphasis on my character?

This is SRK and I should probably be flaming you right back, but if I remember correctly, you were the guy who made that informative Mormon thread. It’s too bad that got closed, I was digging the insider’s view.

I’ve inquired about various Rondo guitars in several places and you’re the only person who’s had unequivocally bad things to say about them.

This tells me one of two things.

  1. You have your head up your ass.

  2. You don’t have your head up your ass, but the two Agiles you played were at the lower quality end of the bell curve (in this respect, I imagine Agiles are the same as any other line).

What forum?

Not necessarily. Especially as you go up the scale.

Which Agiles, and how did they suck? Just saying they suck doesn’t really mean anything. What was so bad about them? I’m also skeptical of your thoughts, considering…

Douglas from Rondo is made by Saien (AKA Shine.) I owned a Douglas SI-61L guitar that I got for $99, and a Douglas WPB-955 bass that I got for $219. The bass was fantastic. Thinnest, most comfortable 5 string neck I’ve ever touched, brass nut, neck through maple/walnut neck with beautifully dark rosewood board, ash body, active j pups. Played out a few times and EVERY TIME, without fail, I was a) complimented on how attractive the instrument was, and b) how nice it sounded, by people who had no idea that I had paid less than $240 shipped for it. The guitar wasn’t as nice, and I planned on replacing the bridge pickup eventually, but the neck and middle pickups actually sounded really nice and the pots were smooth, as were the tuners. In short, issues are minor. Not that it would matter to you anyway, since you seem to have a stick up your ass about incredibly minor things.

I just noticed you complained about “rusty strings” on a new guitar. Who the fuck keeps the original strings on a guitar they just bought? Spend the 5 budks on a new set. Stickers on the pickups? You’re complaining about shit like that that makes no difference whatsoever, except to keep the instrument in better condition for the person that eventually buys it. The fact that you feel the need to point that out as a detriment makes it really hard to take your opinion seriously.

Oh and Parry’s an ex-JW, not Mormon.
