to be fair (and correct be if im wrong) the clerical aspect of the forums has always been delegated out…from jump. it wasnt ink or ponder doing most of the groundskeeping, especially in gd it was a-chan and javi. the immersion was never there imo. and again what most people here are talking about is GD relevance not SRK. what sucks is that a lot of the other sub forums have taken a MAJOR dive especially regional section over the last few years. not only in content but in views.
sad part to me is the resources that would have to be backedup from the shutdown would take some work and time, but honestly this is what…? the 5th version of GD now?
i dont like the more popular social media used by a lot of fgc people now and maybe most of you dont either, but we are a minority…hella.

Me and some other old schoolers started working on shoryuken.net just a few hours after Tom announced SRK was getting killed off. I know those guys are working on stuff but we started working on ours before that thread was made, so we didn’t know. I would like to keep everyone together, of course, but we’ve done too much work already and those guys seem undecided about things like domain name, forum software, hosting, etc. We’ve already decided on and bought all that and it’s nearly ready to launch. We actually have vb and xenforo. The plan is to let people vote and then get a refund on the other license. They’re also playing around with the idea to keep using Vanilla or go with phpbb… I respect what they’re doing but I can’t get behind those software’s. Vanilla has done enough damage to SRK and needs to go. I’ve got some super talented people who are enthusiastic about this but they definitely don’t want to do it on phpbb. It’ll be vBulletin or XenForo… whichever SRK wants.
I think the thing you should all have made first was the thread, (at least bchan did that) to let the people know and see what everybody think about it.
now jasen is making another one for tech talk, we’re going to have like 4 srks just for each section GD, FGD, Tech talk, SFVsubf?!

It’s not really any of our faults, though. Look, to be honest I’m not really interested in trying that hard to persuade anyone to go this way. Here’s what I think: SRK deserves the best, so that’s what we’re attempting to create. We’re putting the offer on the table and it’s a good one. It could end up being the new SRK or just a new Street Fighter site. I think we should all end up at the site that has the best software, best looks, and is the most reliable. If that isn’t Shoryuken.net, fuck it, SRK will go to wherever that is, myself included. If the majority goes elsewhere, there will be no hard feeling from this side; I have enough friends from here (and other dead forums actually) that simply want a long-lasting fighting game forum we can ensure is run right – That’s something we can have with this, and it will make make the work we’ve already done, and will do, worth it… even if only those people are there. I wish everyone who is working on SRK successors the best of luck and I hope that we all end up at the best place in the end. That’s all I really know to say about it.

I get the Cannons and Wiz aren’t involved in the day-to-day grunt work here, but a decision of this size doesn’t get decided in a month. The powers that be decided likely weeks, maybe months ago that this was the path they were taking and didn’t give anyone here a heads up.
That shit ain’t cool, and makes them look cold and distant from the people that they once profited from… Now that there is no more profit, it feels like “Fuck you. Get your shit and get out. You have three weeks.”

I guess at this point I’ll just keep chugging along and see what happens…
We’re willing to let in whoever wants to contribute. I think we have all read their thread, though, and it’s just that nobody who’s working with me wants to go that direction. We have Buster Wolf doing the main site coding, Zor is back from the dead to do the retro revival forum themes and hacks that everyone loved back around 2005-2007, me installing the forums and making all new custom themes, and we even have the guy (who’s old forum name escapes me in my old age) who did SRK’s blue and orange design back in 2002-2003 making the new graphics for the main site. We’re pretty much all OG taggers with talent who basically share the same artistic vision for what we’re creating. We all have a good understanding about what most people thought were SRK’s best days both visually and in spirit. It would just be too difficult and likely too conflicting to go to those other guys with that now. And we don’t wanna feel like we’re bulldogging anyone into doing things our way either. It’s a tough situation. You older SRK’ers know that these people are pretty badass at what they do, though, so you can rest assured it’s gonna be fuckin’ BOSS.

Maybe the groups I’ve been in in the past have been weird but most of the time when a place is hemmoraging money one of the following is done.
- Looking for a more affordable venue
- Asking the community to chip in
- Asking if anyone wants to take over
You know not just burning the entire fucking place to the ground because you personally are done with it.
I respect what the Cannons have done before but this is some sloppy bullshit, they could have removed all burden from themselves without fucking everythung up but they chose this instead.
Only way this even makes sense is if this is not about server costs but about keeping a clean branding image for sponsors or buyers of SRK, in which case we will have just been used to raise awareness of the brand then discarded.
I find it funny that we in less time can relocate better than governments that take in refugees

And all this ties in here hilariously so, that - PHOTOBUCKET - of all damn places, with no kinda plan to build revenue besides way overpriced printing everyone does better/cheaper and trying to shut off hotlinking out of their site when you upload there, for the express reason to link to a forum or anywhere else you want to put your pics in order to cut down some server costs off bandwidth

guess its a reminder to pull all the things you put on there in your own albums, and store them on your own computer/phone memory storage again, just in case. And to relive the memories.
Hey Ranma, I have read your follow up posts to this, and I am really excited to see what you guys are working on, but just to let you know that the site Darc Requiem made is actually a free zetaboard and has been up and running since the night of the news break. It’s very much a work in progress and I realize it may not be the best, permanent solution (yours sounds better honeslty) and we’ll all go where the flock is.
When do you think your forum will be up? Darc made his quickly incase SRK was shut down earlier than mentioned as a place to gather the troops. In the meantime we’ve slowly been improving it to make it a new home just in case.
Also, I was honeslty going to start going through SRK posts and just copying some of the more imformative text over, and I was going to post here on SRK looking for people to sign up to the zetaboard and help, but if your forum will be up shortly then I may hold off on that.
