This was one of the very first forums on the internet that I bothered making an account for. I went so long without logging in at one point that I ended up losing my account (I probably originally made my account here close to 15 years ago), so needless to say I haven’t frequented the forums in a long time. However, this announcement still makes me a bit sad.
This seems to be kind of a sign of the times, as I’ve seen this sort of thing happen with other forums on the internet, generally with the same reasoning given (other social media options). However, I believe that no social media site will ever completely fill the void that is left when a forum like this goes away.
Even though no one may come out and say it, I can’t help but feel like the people that run most website forums just don’t want to deal with moderating their forums anymore, and that may be a big a reason as any as to why so many forums keep getting shut down.
That aside, I guess all that’s left to say is thanks for the memories, and thanks to anyone and everyone that did anything to help anyone on the forums at any point.
Exactly the same thing happened here, my account was inactive for so long I lost it during the migration.
Well I made the suggestion, strip the forum clean, get rid of all the sub forums that aren’t needed like character specifics, matchmaking, etc, keep the game forums, GD, FGD, Tech Talk, Trade forum, Dom 101. It would be cheaper and much easier to maintain, like others have said if Zaibatsu and Dust Loop can stay open so can SRK, they just need to get rid of all the baggage.
Damn son, this forum is so inactive. shrug
Shut it all down if you gonna take away the forums.

Just to give you guys who want to see the forums live on a heads up, me and a few other older members are already making a new forum. We have already registered shoryuken.net and purchased the Xenforo (fuck vanilla) software and hosting. The forums are being installed now and should be up by sometime tomorrow at forums.shoryuken.net
…And we are bringing back the old blue and orange theme. Everyone working on it has past experience with either web design, forums admin, graphic design, etc.
I knew your name looked familiar. NM was the last time a forum’s death left me feeling a bit of a void. Lots of history between that and this place for me. Lost touch with my circle of friends when MSN became Skype and fucked up my friend list too.

Honestly, if they go ahead and close this, they might as well close the front page. SRK is a forum with a frontpage, not a frontpage with a forum.

I hope a sort of official discord is setup. The FGC needs some centralized hub, still, even if it maybe doesn’t need a centralized forum.

Discord isn’t good at be a centralized hub for information. It’s caters too much to ADD to be that.
