Reddit is a terrible “forum”. Searching for anything on there is a pain.
Twitter is a joke, no useful discourse happens on there. Discord also seems to be useless for serious discussion.
Facebook is the worst of all of these, everything turns into trolling.
This is the only forum I visited regularly since I joined up back in the day. This forum was a part of my life. I am legit devastated that it is going away. I have met friends, traveled, made memories and more importantly gained a shit ton of knowledge. Whether it was strats or tech talk, the knowledge I gained here will last me a lifetime. Very sad to see it go.
Shout out to the mods for keeping things work safe for the most part. This was the only forum I could visit while at work and not worry too much about stupid shit popping up. Legit kept me sane many many times. Anytime I needed a breather, I could check SRK for a few minutes and I was good to go.
It is going to be hard to find an adequate replacement, and quite honestly things will never be the same.
I can see it now, end of June 2018 will come and they’ll announce that Evo is cancelled, but they’ll host a roller disco party at the end of the month to make up for it.
Everyone involved is doing it pretty much just because of the love and history of GD. So yes.
For now, it’s just going to be GD, FGD and Tech Talk. Main site will be a Street Fighter fan site instead of tournament coverage and news. There are plenty of places for that already.
We talked about a different name but, SRK is all about the forums and always has been, and isn’t it us, the members, who have made that what it is over the years? With that in mind I don’t see why we should change our name.
I don’t really understand how a discord is any substitute for a site that can be googled and found though a search engine. If the forum isn’t dumped and backed up, there’s an incredible amount of lore and game knowledge that’s just going to sink into the deep never to be found again. Just reading the Info About Old School SF2 scene thread makes me think it’s necessary and it’s a bummer that Wiz is ok with just shutting everything down without even exploring the possibilities of bringing prem back or something else.
That said, I’ve learned a lot being a member here. Not just about fighting games, but about life and myself. I’m sure I’d never have come in contact with most of y’all if it weren’t for this forum and it truly makes me sad to think that a community I’ve been a member for almost 10 years is possibly going to be shut down like this. And if that’s how its going to go, I’ve had a lot of great times here and learned a lot of stuff that’s served me in life. It’s funny to think that I came here for fighting game strategies, but through hangjng in GD, learned about nutrition, weight lifting, relationships, politics, finance, other games, and just people in general.
Is Evo going to continue, and if so, what’s the point of having a tournament with no hub for players to meet and make friends?
This was my very first introduction to SRK, it still stands as the best Evo trailer ever made and to me still one of the best combo videos ever made. It was so inspirational it inspired me to dedicate my real life time to competition and dive into the passion of the FGC.

nah i was hella negative and bitter as fuck, and that guaranteed will turn off any woman. looking back there were actually asian women back then who had shown interest in me, but i was too absorbed in bitterness and obsessed over one chick who friendzoned me i never even realized it until years later. i was going through a lot of crap, and the tough love of srk was a big help. here people call you out on your bullshit, and its a damn shame the rest of the internet is fucking fascist (i also post on team liquid, got banned multiple times because i talked my usual shit, bunch of losers over there)
my advice, keep working on yourself. i see many asian brothers doing well now and it makes me happy. your financial situation sounds solid, so work out if you’re not doing so already, focus on self improvement, go out a bunch, rest will fall into place. and be careful spoiled women who want attention and money. any girl who gets mad cause you’re hanging out with your bros to play video games and kick it, well kick her to the fucking curb and piss on her
Sad to hear the forums going away. This was a fairly good resource for me for Street Fighter 2 stuff that I revisited over the years every time I got the itch to play SSF2T again. Not to mention one of the only places I found to discuss Street Fighter 2 outside of Kaillera, GGPO, and Fightcade chat rooms.
No real discussion can be had because it’s impossible to quote people and the posts move a mile a second due to all the yahoos trying to get themselves over.
Eh, the main GD discord’s #general moves no faster than prime-time Lounge did back in the day (or do you forget the 20+ pages overnight thing?). It’s the other channels (Discord’s rendition of “threads”) that move at a tolerable pace that real discussion can occur.
Though, yes, I agree that Discord is sorely in need of a good quote function. Best you can do is @ someone.
I am saddened by the cold silent treatment we are getting from the administration. Is this how you want the end to be remembered? Is this the end we deserve? :sad:
SRK in my mind is the most exciting board of all fighting games and now this??? I literally do not understand. I get that Vanilla’s expensive, but still…
