Trust me, you really don’t.
I’ve made it clear where I stand and no amount of fruitless arguing will change that.
Here’s what will happen:
[details=Spoiler]Po: “Don’t ban X. Y and Z can slow it down/check it, and if you hadn’t banned W, X wouldn’t have become a problem to begin with.”
German Koffing: “You don’t know what you’re talking about. OVERCENTRALIZING!”
Po: “Stop relying on numbers and statistics so much. Strategy is more than a spreadsheet.”
Weezing(German Koffing evolved when it got more butt-hurt followers)*:* “You’re reaching. W is a banned tactic, and Y and Z lose when X does 3, even though everyone always makes X do 1 and 2.”
Po: “That’s why its called STRATEGY and PREDICTION. Using your head to get out of a tight spot is a classic technique employed by free thinkers.”
Mega Weezing(all those German Koffing drones turned into a Mega Stone)*:* “You want Jump Rope and Hopscotch to be part of Recess again, but we decided they were dumb and took them out in favor of Tag only.”
Po: “Sigh… Whatever. Maybe if you actually played Jump Rope and Hopscotch, you’d have more speed and stamina for Tag and Recess would be more fun.”
Mega Weezing: “But if we did that, I wouldn’t win all the time from only knowing how to play Tag!”
Po: “Exactly. You’re not supposed to win all the time. Getting better is a natural result of losing.”
Mega Weezing: "WELL, YOU ARE STUPID… and… YOU ARE STUPID!" Cue incredible amounts of hypocrisy and hiding behind logical fallacies to promote the most boring shit ever conceived. MORE STEALTH ROCKS AND VOLT/TURN FOR ALL!!
Po(more than visibly annoyed)*:* “Whatever. Do what you want. I’ll go play with people that aren’t afraid of trying new things.”
Repeat ad infinitum, until Mega Weezing has spread its doctrine to all parts of the internet…***[/details]
Basically, my opinion is: “Don’t ban shit. Let the metagame develop naturally and you’ll see that a lot of stuff people have been claiming is broken really wouldn’t be if you’d stop theorizing and actually play the fucking game… ALL OF THE FUCKING GAME.”
Mega pokes just seem too crazy for a standard metagame. Aside from maybe a few, most are just nuts. I believe the bank will change things up a lot once it goes live. We’re only playing with a partial roster still.
It’s like I said before, the conversation will eventually get to banning all Mega Evos.
And I know people will call that a Logical Fallacy, but it honestly isn’t. It’ll end up being talked about as “Why should X Pokemon get extra options and huge stats over Y Pokemon just for using an item? That’s an uneven playing field that will centralize the game, every team has a Mega Pokemon on it now. It’s ruining team building, get rid of them”.
I would honestly rather that conversation be addressed now than spending another 3 days going in circles on Blaziken/Kangaskhan.
Good point. Since most of the arguments are concerning Mega’s (Besides Blaziken), I would like to get this out of the way and hear opinions on Mega Pokemon in general as well.
the main problem is that Gamefreak implemented a mechanic that was abritrarily added to the game which already had thanks to previous gens, a healthy supply of hard hitters. Mega stones unlike Choice items or specific moves combined with an ability. show very little in terms of negative aspects and in most situations just boosts the pkmn to retarded levels of strength without needing to sacrifice much. some pokemon DO take a hit in terms of versatility because they lose a hold item for the mega stone but many just hit hard enough now to ignore the lack of recovery and some never needed it in the first place.
Aggron for example raised itself out of obscurity thanks to it’s mega stone BUT it lacked recovery options already to making it a tank with no way to heal kinda takes away from it’s role it was designed for.
Again my issue with Megas is they weren’t handed out fairly. Rather it was choosen by whoever liked what. Mawile should have just gotten another Evo for example.
Hmm… I’m neutral on this. Some Mega Pokemon are extremely good and don’t need to exist, as their base forms are good enough, but others give otherwise useless Pokemon some legs to stand on. Obviously, this is an all of them or none of them discussion, though. I really don’t know…
outside of megagengar and megakangaskhan, most other megas are pretty mediocre, the only ones that really stand out besides those two are megamawile, megalucario, and megacharizard, the others are just decent pokemon (except for megaabomasnow…wtf is up with that thing)
it’s slippery slope fallacy, stop using it, just because blaziken is fucking obnoxious doesn’t mean we’re going to ask to ban talonflame as well, stop doing this, it doesn’t prove anything and never has been true in competitive pokemon
i’ve changed my mind about megalucario (he’s still really good, but can be stopped) but the other megas are no where near broken (for now), i will not ask for them to be banned unless something comes up
blaziken and megagengar support a team way too fucking well that it almost makes it easy mode, the offensive presence they have on top of their support is the reason why these things are over the top, pokebank makes megagengar even dumber
megakangaskhan is easy mode, i think we would all be happier with her gone…she’s just a headache to even figure out how to get past her and she only gets worse when pokebank comes around
Now I have to interject because you just exposed a mindset that frustrates me. MegaVenusaur is mediocre? MegaScizor? MegaBlastoise? MegaMedicham?
The problem with smogon and their constituents is that they board the hype train until an innovation occurs with a previously underrated Pokémon. MegaAmpharos and heck even the gawdawful-looking MegaManetric might have uses that poke holes in the metagame, but the inflexibility of these players allow the metagame to seem so restrictive.
If it doesn’t 2HKO 90% of tohe metagame it’s mediocre? That’s ludicrous.
mediocre means slightly less than average average, outside of the megas i’ve mentioned, none of them are above average, megavenusaur is about an average pokemon, the lack of lefties recovery really hurts it’s use, same can be said for megablastoise, megamedicham really isn’t all that special, megaampharos has been really lackluster, megaheracross and megapinsir have a lot of potential just one thing holds them back (megaheracross’s speed and megapinsir’s god awful typing), megaabomasnow and megaalakazam suck, megagardevoir just isn’t that special, megahoundoom and megamanectric so far are just…bad, megattar and megascizor so far are outclassed by their base forms most of the time, these can be dealt with like any other pokemon without drastically changing your team
megamawile isn’t that big of a deal, it’s actually way better because it’s base form has intimidate, megalucario and the megacharizards are pretty damn good, megamewtwo is uber (and i don’t think anyone is going to contest that)
the megalatis will be uber, i’ve done calcs for both of them and they’re just going to buttrape everything, megalatios 2HKOs everything that isn’t a fairy (and i even did base form stats with adaptability, draco meteor to something 2HKOs all steel types while OHKO everything but blissey) and megalatias might as well not die, multiscale and it’s ridiculous typing on top of what i’m going to assume is crazy awesome bulky, it’s just going to be an immovable wall (worse than blissey against special attacks)
the other megas do not compare to the absurdedness of megagengar and megakangaskhan, not even close, they can’t even compare to what blaziken did, if any other mega comes up, it’s going to be megalucario (adaptability is a really fucking good ability, especially on something this powerful) but we’ll let time decide if he’s really dumb or not
