Right but again, it completely walls Gengar for the most part unless they want to start using different Ghost and Poison type moves. Other than that though, Chesnaught doesn’t do anything as that ability is way too specific.
Yup. Among other things. And to think people cough smogon cough were dismissing it as useless.
Having an immunity to both Sludge Bomb and the 2 most common Fighting special attacks is awesome, and that’s only the stuff that’s been confirmed for now!
I wouldn’t be surprised if we see more candidates, but many of the potential candidates with protective exoskeletons are confirmed to have different hidden abilities.
Like Shuckle, Cloyster, and Blastoise.
Regardless of the mediocre defensive typing, there’s a heapload of potential synergy with that trait and many Pokémon.
Even then, I don’t think Chesnaught can do much to Gengar either. And Gengar could start running Sludge Wave to get past it later on, and not lose out on much besides the decreased chance to Poison.
So do we all. Remember the metagame is still young and we don’t know what will be relevant until maaaybe 2 months from now. Sets that could’ve been standard might be curbed for different sets depending on its popularity.
Currently everyone sees Sludge Bomb as a the ultimate Fairy deterrent and depending on Chestnaught’s usage players might have to prep for one guy.
Keep in mind it also gives Chestnaught a pseudo-immunity against its Poison weak.
Chesnaught can learn Shadow Claw. Also if Gengar goes Mega it has to worry about Earthquake.
Also most Gengar sets usually only run 2 Offensive Moves, which are most likely Shadow Ball and Sludge Bomb.
Now if Gengars are smart, they’ll switch to Sludge Wave and not have to worry about it but it’ll be a while before people catch onto that. Still a VERY specific niche though.
@Amazing Funbags: Upon further inspection, that whole breeding chain could’ve been cut down by 2/3 if they had just used Smeargle… Smeargle and Eevee are both in the Field egg group(usually comprised of mammalian or 4-legged creatures), and with Smeargle’s ability to have almost any move in the game through Sketch, there is no need for complicated Egg Move Chains for anything that is in the Field group.
Just get a Smeargle, have it learn the moves you need, and breed away.
LOL @ Steel types walling Venusaur… outside of Ferrothorn, I don’t think any Steel is going to enjoy being put to sleep. Everything isn’t about raw power and sweeping… SMH
I really do believe Stealth Rock made everybody dumber…
haha, there’s a team flare punching bag with the description “for some reason, knocking the stuffing out of this team flare-themed bag just feels so good”
Sludge Wave is still a TM(its a prize at the Battle Maison), so yeah Gengar could still run it. But current Gengar builds aren’t running it, and Chesnaught still has viability as it ignores a shit ton of moves with that ability like Gyro Ball, making it a decent check to Ferrothorn.
Smogon is so silly… If it doesn’t have base 120+ in its Attack/Defense/Speed, is part Steel/Dragon/or Tyranitar, and counters everything, then its garbage.
Niggas always complaining about the metagame being stagnant, yet are always shooting down other peoples ideas, then stealing them when they are proven to work…
