SRK Competitive Pokemon Battling Thread: Logoghoul and White Shadow Win! Bye Gen 6!

See gastro comes in absorbs a hydro pump they foolishly stay in to burn me and I hit infestation on them. Toxic turn 2 and then watch as they helplessly die. Even if they trick me i just stall it dead. If they keep spamming WoW i sendin on last turn something else to absorb burn and im ready to go next turn. Most rotom don’t run rest and love to trick items now.

This is of course assuming that they run standard washing machine or oven.

Co-Jones, I’ll be up all night, let me know when you get on(sadly I still haven’t made my team yet, I might just wing it with something I was planning on making but abandoned the project.)

do remember that rotom can also learn toxic, while definitely not as viable as will-o-wisp, it’s definitely an option to give certain things not so free switch-ins, like lati@s, gastrodon, and specially defensive rotoms

(You’re not the only person who still hasn’t made a team BullDancer, I’m sure, even excluding myself.)

Ugh. Three things I realized:

  1. For some reason, I’ve not really been using Fighting type pokemon at all since I came back. The only exceptions have been briefly using Pangoro and then choosing to build a team around Scrafty and both of them are the exact same type incidentally. I guess it doesn’t help that I find the most popular Fighting type after Lucario, Conkledurr, completely stupid looking even if I will admit its effectiveness.

  2. Sunny Day teams are still really difficult to construct even without having to get effortlessly washed out by infinite Rain. Damn Stealth Rocks everywhere even with Defog don’t help. It does help explain why I find Mega Charizard X far more threatening than Mega Charizard Y though. Aside from Harvest and maybe Chlorophyll, most of the Sunny Day-related abilities still blow. Why haven’t we gotten a Sunny Day version of Rain Dish or Ice Body yet?

  3. If I use that “borrowed” team, I’m going to have modify it anyway since I only just realized it has three Rock-weak pokemon and neither Dark nor Ghost resists, which is a no-no.

It’s called Rotom-S because…?

Oh, I know that. Leaf Storm and Overheat also have the problem is “only” being 90% accurate, meaning that I always miss them even though they’re 5% more accurate than Hydro Miss. I was just correcting you and r00ster22 that you were talking about two entirely different teams of mine for some reason.

Go for it. I’d personally be interested to hear your opinion on things that aren’t in OU as long as they aren’t utterly dismissive given that’s how you often unintentionally come across. I know you said you don’t play around in Ubers at present, but I’m sure you have some opinions about the current (fucked-up) state of UU given you were at least semi-defending some of Smogon’s decisions there earlier.

I’m honestly surprised we don’t see more Dual Status Rotoms considering the Status mechanic changes in 6th Gen. Obviously won’t tank as many hits since it would lose a recovery move (Rest/Pain Split) but it could potentially have legs.

I’m around whenever you’re ready co-jones

i’m going to go with OU stuff first because it’s what i know best, but i’m not going to do rotom-w (because we all hate it, it’s just so god damn effective)

i have no clue on what is going on in UU, but staraptor, terrakion, and something else got recently banned. staraptor can’t get a break, 3 gens in a row it’s been BL

sometimes, i’ll do popular things, sometimes i’ll do my worst nightmares, and then sometimes i might just do a random ass pokemon just cause. it’s just to spark discussion

I’ll be ready in about an hour. I ain’t got a team either

This is gonna be 2/3 right? Will there be a loser’s bracket?

yeah it’s 2/3, we doing 6 v 6, and you have to win twice.

defog being everywhere has lessened the value of screens, although pairing screens up with defiant pokemon are really fucking scary

also, rotom is better off being a bulky pivot than a screen setter, while it can do it, it really wants volt switch/hydro pump/wisp on any moveset, even choice sets (AV rotom is bad), it’s not bad, just rotom is more effective doing other things

klefki on the other hand, is a pretty good screener, but if you use screens, i highly recommend a defiant pokemon (most likely, bisharp, but thunderus-I makes a pretty good defiant user as well)

this explains why each rotom is labeled what they are, apparently the fan is Rotom-Spin

Do you have Dyslexia?

No joke, that would explain a hell of a lot…

You wanna do our matches today?

Meanwhile, @Bulldancer wanna battle?

yeah, I’m aroudn whenever you’re ready.

I’m honestly starting to feel like Rotom is the real centralizing pokemon of the game a chun li if you will

Actually it’s the rest of the game that allows the Washing Machine to be so centralizing. Without strong Grass Types outside of MegaSaur Rotom-W is too safe a check to a ton of things that are running rampant. If Grass Types make a comeback or Freeze Dry gets better distribution we’ll see a drop in play.

Even still he literally only has one weakness and that’s one of the reasons I think Megakhan is so great too. Your only getting hit with neutral damage if you switch in plus you have an immunity. Rotom even has the benefit of dual stab-age.

what’s your in game name again?

MegaKhan was great because of its ridiculous ability on top of its solid stats and the fact that people forget how great a type Normal is.

Rotom-W has some good things no doubt, similar lack of weaknesses (though Levitate is not a full on Immunity when Mold Breaker is in decent effect), good STABage as you said, access to multiple status inflictions, good Stats, Volt Switch, etc…

However it does have weaknesses which can only potentially get more annoying.

Rotom by itself isn’t much of a bother, it’s that Volt Switch is such a lame gimmicky move, a lame braindead tactic that is made worse by adding U-turn Genesect into the mix. U-Turn at least has a typing that can be walled somewhat, unlike Electric which is a good attacking type… add that with a Water typing and it’s quite annoying. Thankfully, all my teams have built-in safeguards around it so…
